We are giving up on Pups. Service consistantly poor now while keeping premium prices. Another evening we wished we went elsewhere. Glasses not refilled, had to ask for bread. Drinks from the bar took 30+ minutes. "Kitchen backed up" so we once again, yes 3rd time had to wait 90 minutes for our dinner. Ordered a 12oz prime rib med rare I got 2 thin puny gray pieces of meat med well. No bar tender, waitress stocking plates and making drinks. Went in at 6:30 and got out at about 8:45. They cooked my wifes filet ok but that was about it. Time to move on Farewell Pups we wont be back. read more

We actually were looking for Daniels fine casual but being Monday they were closed and this place in the same shopping center was open. Wow, what an unexpected find! Good sized bar with a separate table-clothed dining room. On Mondays they have half priced bar bites. The list included a tuna steak burger which I ordered seared rare. It came out perfectly with a side order of fries, a soy sauce and a mayo based sauce which were both really good. My wife had the crab cake appetizer which consisted of two obviously hand made crab cakes that were full of crab and full of flavor. They came with a nice side of slaw. This place is about 10 minutes from I95 and well worth the effort to get away from the usual highway eateries! read more

We are passing through and really wanted a good steak. This place was great. I had the Rib Eye..it was cooked perfectly. My table mate had the Honey Glazed Salmon...she said it was outstanding. Sad to say Pup's has gone downhill. So along with the 2 pieces of thin cut overcooked grey prime rib that my husband received we had an issue extremely slow service. No bread, no plates. Had to hunt someone down for refills of our drinks, no bartender, cosmo in whisky glass? HisPrime Rib was $42 because heI ordered with shrimp got 3 med shrimp. Waited well over an hour to get our meal. We couldn't wait to leave. Oh yeah we also ordered your $17 bacon wrapped scallops extremely small with bacon over cooked and one scallop was off. About the only thing good was my Filet. Our waitress took 25 minutes to bring a cocktail, never refilled our drinks and never checked on us after bringing our food. We had to ask the hostess to ask our waitress to come by. And we were not the only table she had to resort to this. She never set our expectations by saying, the kitchen is backed up or I am really busy. She just disappeared. This is our 3rd experience just like this and will be our last. read more

It was my first time going here after it being recommended to us a bunch. Everyone raved about their food, but all I could eat was a salad which was a little disappointing. It'd be nice to have at least one vegetarian entree (maybe pasta?). The desserts were great, though, and our waitress was wonderful with our girls. The food is always hot, and I feel I deserve my money. The staff is always lovely and greets you when you walk through the door.

The food, service, and ambiance were exceptional! I ordered the beet, goat cheese, and candied pecan salad special and my mother-in-law ordered the seafood stew special. Her and I split what we ordered so we could try both, and they were absolutely delicious! I'm picky about food and really only like to eat fresh, well-coked meals if I eat out. I have visited the city of Wilson several times and never ate here. I am so glad that I decided to try it the food is so good. I had the stuffed salmon with the brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were fried and were delicious. They serve bread that comes with delicious butter. It was strawberry cinnamon butter, that's the best way to describe it. We are new to the area and have been searching for new dining destinations. We had friends in from our old hometown and thought we would try Pups. We had an early reservation, right after they opened for dinner. It took an hour and a half to be served...the food was OK. My advice is to park on the other end of the parking lot and go to Daniel's where the food is delicious and the service is outstanding. read more

Food has gone downhill while prices have risen. Staff seems oblivious to customer needs and not really interested in serving customers. I have been a long time customer, but I will not be back soon. Michael is rarely present and it is evident. If management doesn't oversee the employees they don't care. That seems to be the current problem. read more

This place has excellent food!! The dinner is a little pricey (unless you order off the bar menu) but lunch is very reasonable. The brisket quesadilla is a must...the meat was flavorful and well cooked, and there was just the right amount of cheese. I'd also recommend the oysters....you can get a sampler plate and try 5 different kinds. The black and blue sandwich was also excellent, the steak was cooked to order and it was made perfectly. For lunch I recommend the soup and sandwich combo for $8. They usually have a daily sandwich option in addition to 4 regular options (chicken salad, shrimp salad, ham, and turkey, + the daily sandwich special). The food tastes amazing here, the only thing of note is that the lunch portion is on the lighter side, so if you're starving I'd recommend getting a salad to go with the soup and sandwich. Normally we'd give a 4-5 star for Pups. Last evening we went in and attempted to sit on the bar side. Many bar stools open and a high top table for 2 open. Asked if we could sit at bar, hostess asked bar tender and he said no, they can sit at the outside bar but not inside. I asked then, if we could sit at the high top, she said no, "they aren't letting anyone else in here with this group of people that's in here". What? We're excellent customers. Maybe they should consider putting a barrier up stating "bar side closed for private party this evening". That would be better than sending the message they did last evening, which is very open to whatever and however people might feel after being told "you're not allowed in here with this group of people ". read more

First time my husband and I visited the staff was very friendly. We were seated in the bar area. Everything tasted good. Our food was very quick to come out. The crab stuffed salmon was full of flavor. The bone in New York strip was good but lacking in the flavor department. Overall it was good experience, however once they got busy the server/ bartender was very overwhelmed and had a hard time keeping up. My wife and I were referred here by our hotel during an overnight stay in Wilson on Labor Day. First impression from the door is that this is a nice, somewhat elegant restaurant. The hostess asked if we had reservations, which we didn't, and she proceeded to seat us at a two top table in the main hallway, directly in front of the restroom doors, despite there being many open tables in the main dining room. This was also the main hallway going to the kitchen, with open view to the kitchen serving window, so there was constant traffic back and forth in front of our table. After about ten minutes, a server stopped at the table and asked if anyone was waiting on us. Shatick took ownership of our table, and he was the bright spot of our visit; very nice and energetic with a genuine smile. Unfortunately, the service eclipsed the food. I ordered a Parmesan "crusted" rib eye, which turned out to be a steak with a bunch of dry Parm dumped on top before serving. The raw oysters were the tiniest I have ever experienced and were not as cold as they should have been. I did enjoy the side of fried Brussel Sprouts. My side salad arrived after my dinner with an apology that "we didn't make any blue cheese dressing today, so I brought you ranch", with no option offered to change. Entertainment during dinner was the constant party taking place with the kitchen staff, the servers, and what appeared to be some regulars hanging around at the kitchen window and the parading back and forth past our table. I guess you'd have to say that the upside was that the bathroom was only two steps from our table. It was unkept and definitely not on par with the intent of the restaurant decor. I love local steakhouses, having travelled extensively over the years, with lots of data points for comparison, and I tried to like this place. However, there were too many issues to not convince me that this place is loosely managed, inconsistent food at best, and not at all a good value for the premium prices charged. read more

I hate that one of my favorite places has gone downhill. Everyone has a bad night but the last three times we have been to Pups has been poor. The food quality has suffered. I like Pups! A little restaurant in a plaza, off the road where you better use Yelp and your GPS to find the place! If you ain't local or know a local or study local Wilson you will not find the place. In short, Pups just ain't to big on signage. Won't be coming back here - some things they pull off others are completely sub par. It seems like they want to be a top end chop house but cut corners here and there leaving the final result an inconsistent mess. My wife was going to order a sirloin, as always, but since we were at what I thought was a competent establishment, I talked her into going for the filet. She ordered medium well only to receive it completely well done. It was a brick. A grey lifeless brick. She didn't want to say anything (we already had an issue with the drink, but I think the blame on that was 50/50). I mentioned something to the manager when she came by but the only reparation offered was a slice of key lime pie? No redoing the 30$ piece of meat, no removing it from the tab, no offer to come back in so we can redo it.... nothing satisfactory. In my opinion, no chef should turn a piece of meat out of his kitchen even if it is ordered well done. I've seen chefs come out to explain this in the past and talk the patron into going for a medium well steak vs a well done... Waitress had no idea if they had Mccallens, or what kind of scotch they had - she had to Google what was in tiramisu cake! Was not quick in finding answers to questions she did not know. Overall just an unpleasant dining experience. No reason to come back when there are so many other great establishments in Wilson and the surrounding areas - check out Jac's Grill for starters instead of this! read more

Very good for small town Wilson. We've eaten there several times and have liked all items so far : Ribeye, Shrimp and Grits, Pecan Chicken, Sliders in the bar area... I love sitting out on the patio by the hearth. Some nights they have live music and is very nice and laid back. It was terrible my reservation was at 6pm we got served at around 9 oclock yes 9 people came in after us got there food before us by the time we got served the restaurant was empty the food was cold yes i mean cold boil potatoes was hard like raw hard everything was terrible we didn't make a scene because it was my sisters birthday with that said i will never go back my Wife ordered chicken strips and they was burnt like a 5 year old cook them. It was just bad. We waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes to order. We asked if we could order an appetizer and the said the kitchen was not taking any food orders. We ordered drinks and had to go to the bar to get them because they never brought them. It was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in a long time... and then we got our food which was overcooked prime rib, unimpressive hibachi and an overpriced iceberg salad that had to have come from a bag. We went at 6:30pm on Saturday, place was not busy. We had dogs so sat in outdoor patio. The waiter was not very friendly and sighed several times loudly and basically threw the menus on the table. My daughter ordered a side of fries that never came, which we were charged for. We told them and they removed it. I ordered a margarita but got a Moscow mule. Not a good experience.
