The other half of my party was dying to go to the Mayflower over our last visit to Wilson, NC. It was a huge conversation. Over the years, we had gone a few times with family, as the Mayflower is a Wilson staple. In the photos you will see Sweet Tea, the (fried) Mayflower Captain's Platter (although I think the party I had dinner with had the name wrong) with hush puppies, green beans, cole slaw and potato salad, and the broiled Salmon steak with green beans, baked potato and hush puppies. I was laughed at for not ordering something fried. That is fine with me, considering I feel EVERYTHING in that place is fried in the same oil. Nevertheless, people will eat it. I was traveling with someone who fell into that category. If you like pretty much fried everything with less than adequate seasoning, this place is for you.

Need I say more?? Seasoned perfectly!

The food is top notch: fried fish heaven. Setting is casual. It's my go to spot. I drive 24 miles one way when I want fried fish. My family loves the other seafood. Fried okra slaps too. The hush puppies with onion bits are epic! Excellent food!

    Pork chops are amazing!!!

This Mayflower was just okay. Surprisingly the fried jalapeños were the best thing we ordered out of the whole meal. The rest of the fried food was soggy and cooked in old grease. Customer service could have been better as well. Me and another gentleman came to the to go area and we're literally ignored because we didn't have call-in orders. He took everyone else who came in after us and took our orders last.. As if we did something wrong by not calling ahead. The other customer even brought it to their attention. Like hey, should we go to the car and call in order to get service or what? Ehh

First time here the customer service was very good and the menu selection was nice as well. Very down South feeling to it. Very family oriented

Oh my gravy! If you are in the mood for serious seafood, here is your place to be!! We started with a shrimp cocktail. It was great! Cocktail sauce was just the right amount of hot. I ordered the pick three combo with fries as my side. As you can tell from the picture, it was a mountain of seafood! The baby shrimp were perfect. Not crumbly dry breading here! The deviled crab was delectable...moist & perfect seasoned. I also got the breaded whitefish...lightly breaded and seasoned! Many restaurants do not season their fish breading and it just tastes flat. Not a problem here! For those who do not groove on breaded seafood, they have an extensive broiled menu! Can't wait for my next trip!

Excellent food and plenty of it in your plate. Shrimp is perfectly cooked broiled or fried along with baked potato.

My husband and I stopped in for an early breakfast and were not disappointed. This charming little spot is full of Southern personality. It's not fancy, but you're welcomed the moment you walk through the door by the friendly ladies behind the counter, and it immediately feels like home. The menu includes classics--along with a few Southern staples that were brand-new to us as New Yorkers, like "backbone and chew bread." We didn't try it this time, but based on the crowd, I'm sure it's delicious! I ordered fried eggs, bacon, and grits, while my husband went for fried eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. Everything was cooked just right, simple and satisfying, but what truly made the meal memorable was the warmth and hospitality. The space itself adds to the experience--filled with quirky chicken décor and a handwritten menu on a whiteboard that adds to its cozy, old-school charm. It's the kind of whimsical little hole-in-the-wall that feels like a warm hug. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping in. It's not just breakfast--it's an experience, and one that captures the heart of true Southern comfort.

As someone who grew up in the South and now lives in Miami, I have pretty high standards when it comes to chicken and waffles. The chicken was disappointingly dry and lacked seasoning, while the waffle tasted more like something pre-made and reheated than freshly prepared. The syrup didn't help matters either, tasting more like a heavily processed corn syrup product than real maple syrup. The loaded tater tots were the stronger of the two dishes. The tots themselves were impressively crunchy, and the toppings were generous. The pimento cheese added richness, while the red and green onions brought some welcome freshness and balance. Even so, the dish felt a bit dry overall and never quite rose above average. The bright spot was the service. Everyone was friendly, the food came out quickly. With so many great places to eat in Raleigh, this ended up feeling like a missed opportunity and, for me, wasn't the best use of valuable stomach space on a short visit to the city.
