A Woman's Place presents themselves as a provider of services to "all victims of domestic violence…read moreregardless of their age, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation." I spent 3 days on the phone searching for a shelter for victims of domestic violence. I called every single DV shelter in Denver, Aurora, Englewood ,Boulder, Bailey , Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Loveland, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Grand Junction. When I called A Woman's Place in Greeley I was so happy to hear that they in fact had more than one vacancy. I completed the intake process and waited for them to call me back with a decision. I was devastated when the advocate called me back to say I was not a good fit for their program. Since then I've been turned away by their staff on at least 4 separate occasions. The advocate I spoke with today was particularly insensitive when I asked her to explain the basis for the decision. She said "No, I need to move on to other victims who need help" and hung up on me.

If you want to stay safe, don't go here. I was treated so unfairly and thrown out on a Sunday evening with nowhere to go. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was denied that right. I guess fowl language and Hippa is not important and neither was my safety in what they call a " safe house". They kept the only groceries I had and forbade me from re-entry. I just pray they don't treat others as poorly as I was treated.

That's a good thing when it comes to dealing with new homes for rescue pups. We are totally and completely in love with Piper. She is the perfect fit for our family. She and our other dog, Sophie, play together so well. They often sleep cuddled up together. Thank you Big Bones for giving us the opportunity to adopt the sweetest dog ever! BTW, our son adopted from Big Bones the week before we got Piper. He too had a very good experience and got a great little boy who is a perfect fit with his other dog.

We happened upon Sherlock with Big Bones, and were eagerly awaiting to meet this sweet boy. I filled out the lengthy application and was waiting and waiting for any response. Nothing. I wanted to call them, but they don't have a number listed. So more than a week later I went back to the original post on FB about Sherlock and asked if he's possibly already been adopted. The volunteer was nice, she kept me informed and said not yet. I asked why I haven't heard back yet, she said to check junk mail folder. Of course there it was, sitting in junk mail for over 8 days. I answered his question regarding our home ownership explaining that I am the home owner, but my home is in a Trust and will remain that way. Without any other questions we were turned down and told that we are not a good fit for Sherlock, but no explanation as to why. He said we can try to apply for a different dog. WHAT? No thank you! How rude! I am so deeply crushed. I just wanted to meet him. I will never use this agency. Max Fund and plenty of others, are far more reasonable and easier to communicate with and meet the animals in need. Adopters be warned.

Donations are welcome. You can do a donation with credit card, venmo, or your time. Or if you can't give anything that is okay as well. This concept was interesting to me and I have heard some of my friends talk about this place. With the rising costs of food and well just about everything these days, opted to go and give it a try. There is a tight parking lot, seems like it would be hard to get in and out of though especially if you have a higher profile vehicle. There is also some street parking available. Be sure to bring your reusable bags. Well unless you want to use a box. They do provide them but then there is something large to have to recycle. They are open 3 days a week for limited hours so be sure to check they are open when you want to go. Upon arriving there was a line. Which sounds like is the norm. They can only have so many people inside at one time. It is a smaller space and i can see where it would not be fun to have a bunch of people on top of you. The line moved fairly quickly however. When you do get to the door a volunteer will ask you how many people you are shopping for (how big is your household) you just tell them whatever the number is and then you go in. Its a small warehouse type building. There is some shelving and you just proceed to move around and get what you need. Of course try to be respectful of the fact that there are multiple other people who are also looking for food. They had volunteers restocking items while i was there. There is always going to be different stuff as it will depend on what locations are giving away at the time. Today i was able to find some gluten free breads for my daughter and then some organic regular bread and bagels for my husband and son. Also some salad dressings, some vegan dairy items and regular dairy items, some canned veggies and a few peppers and grapefruit. Was able to snag a dozen eggs which i was excited about for the family. Not for myself as i am vegan. Anyhow, overall it did seem worth the trip and i will be back again in the future. I will probably also look into volunteering as well. This seems like a worth cause i could get behind.
