Creamy turkey and wild rice stew with butternut squash and lentil salad and a brownie
    B D.

Was looking for a new place to try in Fort Collins as I don't get up here often. I went to FOCO cafe due to its rating but also its social model; like SAME in Denver. Good food, pay as you can including a volunteer job for lunch. Nice. Great stew, salad, and brownie. I'll be back. Might try volunteering for my lunch.

FoCo Cafe has one of the most unique models I've ever seen. Giving back tot the cafe in exchange for my meals gave me a sense of satisfaction and belonging. I've eaten dozens of meals there and they've all been healthy and incredible tasting, and the staff/volunteers are very sweet.

    Wonderful jammin' during lunch

Good food, great cause, and friendly people! They have vegetarian options. There's often someone playing live music there.

The bar almost resembles something you might find in a small European hotel, which may suggest they are aiming for a slightly upscale tone, though it never feels pretentious. The seating is varied, with small tables and retro chairs that seem intentionally chosen rather than bought in bulk. The spacing is better than most coffee shops, which makes it easy to settle in without feeling crowded. The back area opens up even more, and the soft drapery adds a touch of personality that appears to hint at events or just a bit of flair. The staff continues to be the standout for me. Everyone I spoke with was kind in a way that felt natural, and they knew the menu well enough to help me navigate dairy free options. I usually order the avocado toast on focaccia because it is consistently fresh. The bread looks oversized at first but is airy and soft, and the avocado and radish topping feels simple in the best way. The matcha made with water has also become a go to since it tastes smooth and well-bodied without that chalky, thin finish some places have. My partner and I visited during their Dia de Los Muertos weekend and tried a few themed items. Everything was good, and they were quick to suggest dairy free choices. Prices seem fair, even with the general bump everywhere lately. The only thing I wish they had more of is outlets. It is still a nice place to work for a couple of hours, but coming with a charged laptop helps. The overall vibe is calm with just enough energy to keep the space from feeling sleepy. It works well for coffee dates, casual catch ups, or solo work, especially for anyone who prefers a relaxed atmosphere without too much chaos.

Just a couple days ago a friend mentioned Fox Den was one of her favorite coffee places. I guess it was just a little out of the way for me. I didn't make my own coffee this morning on purpose. We were going out to get coffee and a bag of whole beans from one of my favorite FC coffee shops. I suddenly realized I could use this opportunity to finally stop by Fox Den. The SO asks if I want to go there instead. I say yes, but with a little hesitation. I mean how good can this place really be? Will it live up to expectations? Does the "No Waste" theme come at the cost of compromising coffee quality? Upon entering the cafe, I see a wall of mugs to choose from. I pick the Mickey Mouse one. I place my standard new coffee shop order-a cortado and drip coffee. The barista taking my order says that's his favorite mug. The drip coffee comes first. I chose the light roast. It has mild acid, barely perceptible bitterness, and nice smoothe coffee flavor. I really can't ask for a more balanced cup of coffee. One of the best drip coffees I've had in a cafe. My cortado is up. The barista apologizes for his subpar latte art. It's not that bad. Consistently good latte art is not as easy as some baristas make it look, and baristas are allowed to be human. Besides, this is not the Louvre and art is not what I'm here for, no apology necessary. This cortado is excellent. The high quality pulled shots of expresso shine through the nicely steamed whole milk. I have to know which blends they used in my drinks. El Zorro for the cortado and Foxy Gal for the drip. I compliment the other barista on the shop's coffee. She humbly tells me, "the shots are pulling well today". Typically, when I get my usual cortado and drip coffee, one is better than the other, even if slightly so. Not today. Today both are of equally high caliber. It is a good coffee day.

I came here with a partner en route to Laramie WY. We each ordered a sandwich and split their Shishito Peppers and Baba Ganoush. All of that and their mocktails were delicious. Service is also top notch. We chose to sit upstairs, which felt cozy. I love all the décor and their whole vibe in general. I want to come back to try everything else on their menu - from drinks and tapas to desserts. I have my eye on their Persian Love Cake and Tres Leches Cake, which I wish I had ordered to-go. Shop their goods and bakery section. It also seems like a great place to work remotely. Obsessed!

As we were wandering northward someone started suggested G&B. My reaction was absolutely not, why don't we go to Persimmon instead? "Oh, I've heard good things - where is it?" There. "Where?" Right there. "I don't see it." That door directly across the street from us! Persimmon is quite inconspicuous from the street, but is one of Fort Collins' hidden in plain sight gems. That proved to be a good thing on a day where thousands of people pretty much had the same thought of needing something to warm up - while there were throngs at other places we passed by Persimmon was nearly empty. Our group of 6 easily found a comfy spot for our group. It turns out the we beat the lunch rush - it started to get quite busy once noon rolled around. After perusing the menu for warm drinks a few decided they were hungry so food was ordered as well. I had a matcha latte, unsweetened, and it was a perfect choice to warm up after being out in the wind and bluster that morning. They use a ceremonial grade matcha, which I found to be smooth and really not bitter. I also shared a pastrami sandwich with one of my friends - they were nice enough to bring out the sandwich halves on two plates. While not a New York deli kind of sandwich, it was good - quality ingredients on focaccia. They source their pastrami from a specialty butcher in Denver, though I've forgotten their name. Sandwiches are served with kettle chips that are light, crispy, and not too oily. In a previous visit I had their tuna sandwich and sampled some appetizers. The tuna sandwich was among the best I have ever had - I can't really put my finger on why but I do remember that my first bite wowed me. I didn't see the meze sampler on the menu this time, but as I recall the beet hummus was a standout. I don't lunch out in Old Town very often, but Persimmon is always such a pleasure. I need to make a point of coming more often.

The gyoza came out perfectly pan-seared -- crispy on the bottom, tender on top, and packed with flavor. That dipping sauce had just the right balance of salty, tangy, and savory. You could easily crush two orders without trying. The pork belly steamed buns were next-level. Soft, pillowy buns wrapped around rich, melt-in-your-mouth pork belly. The balance of fat, sweetness, and sauce was perfect. Messy in the best possible way. And then the star -- the Tonkotsu Ramen. The broth was deep, creamy, and packed with flavor -- that slow-simmered richness that tells you it was done right. The noodles had the perfect bite, and the pork was tender and seasoned beautifully. Every spoonful made you slow down just to appreciate it. Hands down one of the best meals I've had in a long time. But they were also fairly quick with the appetizers that we tried. The barbecue tofu was surprisingly delicious with a great texture and yummy sauce. The Gyoza was also a fan favorite with a light crispy bottom and a good filling. We tried two different ramens with two different proteins. The beef was a bit, tough and dry, but the chashu was nice and soft like melting in your mouth. The broth was also good and the noodles were nice and thin. Overall, I felt like this was a nice bite to eat and definitely filling. The only thing I felt that was lacking was the service on refilling water.
