I had an obscure project I was working on for my RV and was in the fastener section probably looking quite puzzled. Meghan approached me and asked if I needed any help and proceeded to not only answer each and every single one of my questions, but was so incredibly kind in the process. I have had some recent issues with this store that are concerning. Last Tuesday I needed 3 bags of water softener salt and could not find one bag that didn't have a hole in it and was leaking a lot of salt. I told the cashier and floor assistant that I would be back and if one of them could find me three whole bags, that would be great. When I came back 40 minutes later, nothing had changed, there was not a clean bag to be found. Similarly, I ordered two refrigerator filters and were told they would arrive In about a week on a Wednesday. I left my number if something changed. Since I live in Julian, it's 45 minutes each way so it's important to get things right. When I arrived on the Wednesday, I learned not only were they not on the shelf, but they never left the warehouse. I drove to to Home Depot and got them there. Sadly, I will not return to this store. While I believe in supporting local businesses, good service is important! read more

My Yelp review on our local Ace Hardware today. I use this Ace all the time. Their customer service is out of this world. Today I went twice. The second time I had a long list of items my contractor gave me. "John" found me wandering around confused and helped me find everything I was looking for and then when he couldn't find the last thing I was looking for, he found help and looked in back. They couldn't find it because it was such a specific part but they tried really hard. Two hours later he found the part, looked up my account, called me at home, and offered to bring it by my house and allow me to pay later. This is crazy customer service I've never even heard of before. Who cares this much, these days? Apparently Ace Hardware does, I'm a committed customer for life! Always friendly and never pushy. I have now visited there about twenty times, and am pleased. Several times they did not have ALL the things I wanted, and they told me so, without trying to substitue something inferior or incorrect for the task at hand. Their salespeople/floor help are fairly knowledgable and know where else to go for products they don't carry and even for better pricing, should I elect to drive. We shop at the Alpine Ace on a regular basis and have mostly great experiences. I had a custom color made a few weeks ago that dried really dark. I brought it in with a sample and picture of the mismatched end product to see if it could be re-adjusted to match. The first person I met with had quite a chip on his shoulder and acted as if I was inconveniencing him (after I spent over an hour trying to adjust some myself). His response was that he can "throw more white in it and see if it works but that's all." Thankfully the other paint guy, Casey overheard and saved the day by also adding another one of the many colors in it. He then took the time to paint 3 layers and blow dry them to see what it would look like once dry. He even said to come back if it doesn't match because they can usually fix it which is the exact opposite of what the original guy told me. After spending $50 I am really glad that Casey was able to fix the issue by thinking outside the box and spending time to color correct the paint I purchased specifically to match. That's good customer service and will give me confidence to buy custom paint at Ace again. Thank you Casey! read more

The guys and gals here are just GREAT!! David is my 'go to guy', whenever I need to find some obscure bolt or nut, he's got me covered! 'Is it metric?' He'll ask... 'say HUH?!?' I'll reply, then off he goes to find the right doodad i need for whatever thingamagigger I happen to be tootling with. They GET ME here, and when I come in asking for the hoopajoo that connects one side of the thinger in the ground- that I punctured a hole in- to the other whatchamacallit on the other side of the yard, they know EXACTLY what to go and get. Thank GOODNESS these people!! Cuz when it comes down to it, and I happen to break that thingy on the top of the, you know, tallish boxy deal on top of my roof, over the stove, or when I crack the outer um.. covering of that shiny plastic-y piece on my air conditioner, I know JUST where to go!! I shop there regularly because the clerks are knowledgeable, experienced, helpful, and pleasant. My husband calls ahead sometimes for a batch of repair items, which they kindly gather for my pickup at the counter. There's no emotional drag, like shopping at Home Depot. For large quantities of building supplies, say, 25 bags of concrete, it's worth driving into Santee or El Cajon. But in general I am glad to pay for the support of, and from, this humanitarian, community hardware store. read more

This is a very good small town hardware store. The employees are friendly and helpful. John (the owner) has selected quality people to work here. The selection of items is appropriate. This is not a Home Depot, and that is ok. The headaches of a big box store aren't present The nationwide periodic sales on paint and other things are great. I ordered some chairs from their website and was informed that they would be shipped to one of their locations - and I selected the aone. It took a week or so, but was informed that they had come in. When I first showed up, no one seemed to know what I was talking about, but once they figured it out, they were extremely nice and helpful. The man who waited on me even carried it out to the car, even though it was hardly too heavy for me to carry. All in all, a very pleasant and easy experience. read more

We practically lived here when we first moved in..... their helpful staff is a plus when you don't know what you need or how to do it. Knowledgeable staff for the most part, although one girl bears close watching when mixing paint and it took an hour and half to get it all straightened out. I've gone into the store on about four occasions and each time I was greeted and offered assistance soon after entering the store. They have always had what I was looking for and seemed very knowledgeable. There is always lots of parking and wait time to be rung up is short. You receive coupons in the mail from Ace Hardware and they're not valid . This is happened more than once they send free trailer driver in the mail the card and they don't honor it. When you get there they said there was a mistake a typo. And half the time they don't have what you need and the kids that are working in there or just the kids that don't have a clue read more

I can't speak to the rest of the store, but if you're looking for gardening supplies I suggest heading down the hill to Home Depot or Lowe's. It looks like they only stock fertilizer, and very limited gardening tools. There were no plants, and the flower pot selection was awful. They only carried fake plastic terracotta pots, and the 2" size was about $3. For comparison, I bought 3" real terracotta pots from HD last week for 78¢/each. Like I said though, I was only here for the gardening center, and can't speak to how well the rest of the store is stocked. read more

These guys have a much broader selection than you might think, and their prices are generally quite fair considering that you don't have to drive down the hill. Customer service is lacking in this store. I was talking with Tim the on duty manager and then all of a sudden I was put on hold for 5 mins. When someone came back on the line they said can you call back. I told them no one even told me I was going to be place do hold ,surprise. I called because they charged me full price tax on a sale item. I told them I looked up on ca. Tax board and they can't charge you full tax on an item that's on sale. They should only charge tax on the priced item. Very disappointed with them. read more
