I ran across this establishment when I was in dire need of a unique part . The kind where big box stores seem perplexed when you describe or show what you need. I was told by a local competitor to go this way and I was pleasantly impressed with the young lad's who assisted along with presumably owner type individual who gave his wisely incite to my particular dilemma. I have been here twice and although the moods can vary I try to give grace because we all have days and life / seasons can throw you lemons. They have a variety of selections and the value to me is on brand with a smaller independent store vs a traditional big box stores which due to huge bulk they can lower prices. Short version: I was so excited! I know, it's weird to get excited about shower doors but I thought my leaky shower issue was about to be resolved! Sadly, I'm still searching for a solution. :( The house I live in was built in the 80's and I'm having trouble finding the doohickey that keeps the water in the shower pan. I had tried all the easy places first, Home Depot, Lowe's, Dixieline, no luck. The very nice young men at the Dixieline told me to go Kirk in El Cajon, said they were amazing and knew everything, and I had checked their Yelp reviews which looked great, so I went. Their hours are sooper inconvenient for the working grandma but I finally had a morning off where I could get there. Like I said, I was so excited! I was finally going to talk to someone with some knowledge! I walk in and say good morning to the person that was at the counter and pull out my carefully prepared pictures, complete with a ruler in the pic so that we could gage size. I say, "This is my shower door." And I was immediately cut off with "We don't do anything with shower doors." I ask if I could finish my story and he grudgingly allows me to continue speaking. I tell him I'm simply looking for the whatever that goes in the track in the bottom to keep the water in and he just says no and doesn't offer anything further. I say "OK" and head to the door because I obviously wasn't going to get any help from this cranky jerk. (Now, if you have read any of my previous reviews, you know how I feel about customer service: it's free so I expect a lot of it.) If you don't carry the product I'm searching for, that's cool. But if you don't have it and you're an asshole about it, that's different. The cranky old fart that "helped" me was pushing 70. We all know that he's probably been in the biz for a good amount of time and knows exactly what I need, but didn't bother to enlighten me for whatever reason and THAT pisses me off. Their website brags extensively about they have everything and they know everything, so I was not expecting this rude, unhelpful, tool. Conclusion: If you have a unique issue that requires expertise and knowledge, don't go to Kirk. They don't feel like helping. read more

I have decorative pieces off a no-name brand faucet and of course they found the pieces I needed praise the Lord!! After stopping at multiple stores I was not excited about driving out to east county to chase another lead... I called and explained my dilemma and Greg ...to the rescue! Wow, these guys know EVERYTHING, and if they don't know it, they can look it up in minutes. I had to go in for a cartridge for my Kohler bathroom faucet. I ended up not needing it after all, but returns were a breeze. I only wish they had more places like this in San Diego. It's a little out of the way, but worth the drive if you need specialty parts. read more

The person at the counter understood the water connector problem we were trying to solve almost without explanation, that means experience but lots of experience as this is not a common issue, went to the back found the pieces came back to the front tried couple different options and bam problem solved for $15 dollars, friendly service and to the point, now we have a happy wife at the apartment able to do laundry at home not going to fluf and fold anymore worrying about us catching the rona lol , thanks guys! read more

Needed a hard to find part yesterday, pulled in to the parking lot and a store employee was yelling and threatening a guy unloading cars at the dealership across the street. Poor trucker just trying to do his job and the employee was screaming at him about blocking the driveway. I didn't go in to the store. If he treats people that way, how would he treat me? Skip ACE, which is usually a reliable supplier. Forget about Home Depot. Drive out to Kirk in El Cajon and see Greg. If he doesn't have it or can't get it, it doesn't exist. They had the part I needed but basically price gouged the hell out it. The old badger that talked to me was a complete JERK off. I could tell he was knowledgeable but came across like one of those abrasive brillow pads you use to get the scum and grim off the inside of a sink drain. He wouldn't take returns if the part didn't match up or work for the rebuild. Customer service with this guy was horrible. I walked out the door and will never go back. I don't recommend this plumbing supply store, at least until the old badger moves on and retires. Guys like this probably don't have a good home life and take it out on others, even customers. read more

I AM NOT the handyman type, let's get that out of the way first. I went to Kirk's today to find a Mansfield Plumbing 08-11-1/2 Fill Valve. They didn't stock it but they gave me an alternative to the old school valve with a big external float. I was skeptical but Greg was very patient with me and explained exactly how the repair was to take place. I came home and I just finished fixing my toilet. Everything worked just as he said it would. I have reviewed Kirk before and it never changes. These people are fantastic! They always go overboard to help us "fix it yourself" plumbing dummies. I had a leaking bathtub faucet, couldn't identify the brand and was very frustrated. I took the on/off knob and valve stem to Kirk where they immediately identified the make and then, very patiently, explained my options. I walked out of there with $5 in parts, repaired my faucets and my wife is happy again. They could have sold me anything, but they always explain options - what a class act. Over the years, I have sent numerous people to Kirk after they got in over their heads with a project. EVERY time, they tell me how impressed they were with Kirk Plumbing. Everytime I go into other plumbing supply shops (mission valley plumbing supply and El cajon plumbing supply) they give you the run around and I leave those places with more questions than answers. Found exactly what I needed. Had a hard time originally getting a shower cartridge out. My wife saw that I was frustrated, so she called a plumber to come out when I was at work. The plumber quoted her a minimum of $200, but he probably would not be able to find that cartridge so it would cost $800 to replace the whole valve. I told her no way for that, so she then called out a second plumber who gave us a similar quote, and also said this was a very difficult cartridge to fine.. I decided to once again to tackle the project on my next day off. I got the cartridge out immediately when I actually had time to think about it. I then went to Kirk's with the old cartridge. They immediately found a match and gave me tips on putting the new one. It was a great experience, and I don't feel like I was ripped off by a plumber. read more

I needed to replace my kitchen faucet pull out hose. Couldn't find it in stock at any of the home stores so I tried Kirk Plumbing Supplies since their slogan says they carry hard to find items. The store was very neat and Greg was very helpful. Yes they had the item and I bought it. I should of done my research though as Kirk overcharged me quite a bit. American Standard's website lists suggested retail to be $20. HomeDepo.com has it for less than $15 with free ship-to-store. Kirk charged me $39.99 for the exact same item! I can see paying a bit more for convenience, but double seems unreasonable! read more

Our kitchen sink busted a valve and leaked like Old Faithful. We went to all the big box stores and NO ONE had the 1-inch valve size we needed, but they were happy to sell us a fancy new faucet (plus install) to the tune of several hundred bucks. But Kirk's is just the old-fashioned mom-n-pop store we needed, and they had the valve size, too. We need to keep these folks around so we are not at the complete mercy of the likes of Home Despot, how Lowes can you go, etc. read more

This place is a gem for plumbing supplies. I like to shout out to these independently owned stores because they value their customers. I hate going to the big box stores (long lines, employees who don't care if you get the right part or not). Kirks is a small store with great customer service. I went in there needing a 7' replacement shower hose and they had it. The prices were in line with what I would pay at HD or Lowes. And I was treated with great customer service. I went in to buy a list of parts only to be treated like I was dumb. They put parts on the counter with no identification or price and say a random cost, then when I stated that I only needed to replace one of the 3 valves he said it was cheaper to replace all 3. I couldn't understand how and finally he said because we make the price. I then said I also need handles and he was rude and said thats in the price I just didn't go get them.
