I'm sorry this business has fallen so badly. I have been bringing my Beagles here for 22 years. This was a great Hospital when the previous owners, Dr's Hixon and Clark were there. I felt the beagles were getting great care. I took my dog in to Alpine this past Nov. 13. for a blood test. I was told results would come in 24 to 48 hours. there was never a call. EIGHT days later, I called. Asked for the results was told the Vet was busy. I called on Nov 26th. And asked them to mail them to my house. I called several days later. Asked again. they said they would. Today is Dec 6th.....still no results! I complained again and asked for a full refund. This brings me to the other issue....,as I was paying they verbally told me the total cost $215.00, when I got home the receipt said $298.00! Some would say this was a bait and switch deal. Just what the bloody hell did I pay $298.00 for?????? They didn't even take her temperature! they took her from the room was there an actual blood test??? Found a new Vet. To start: this place had to change their overnight kennel staffing policy (the previous policy was there was NO staff at all overnight... in a facility that keeps emergency patients overnight) after A DOG IN THEIR CARE DIED because no one was there. They now have one single vet assistant (not even a vet tech!) at night to check on things apparently. Reassuring right? This is one of the worst vet offices in the county. The above example of not wanting to pay someone qualified for overnight care of sick animals should be the first clue... they are 100% about making the most amount of money possible. Their appointments are always triple or quadruple booked. They seem to cheap out on everything, from the run down building to the poorly maintained kennel in the back. Some of the veterinarians there seem good at their jobs, but there are plenty of better run, cleaner and more ethical vets in town. read more

Although our dog wasn't feeling well when we came in, she actually seemed to enjoy her exam and so did I. Straight forward talk, and a Doc that listened to every little thing I had to say without butting in. I would recommend Alpine to anyone. read more

I can't say enough about the wonderful vets and staff at Alpine! I have been taking my pets to Alpine for 40 years and would never consider taking them anywhere else. Dr. Hixon and Dr. Clark are both excellent vets, who care for their patients and their owners. They are both very practical and do not try and sell you tests and services that are not needed. They will do whatever you request for your pet but will explain the pros and cons of continuing treatment for a pet that is terminal. They have been practicing for years, so they can make educated diagnosis immediately and start treatment as needed. Over the years I have had to have several pets put to sleep and they have helped me make that decision. They reassured me that I was doing the last act of kindness for my beloved pet. I hope they never retire!!! read more

I boarded my 10 year old dog at Alpine for 12 days. They gave her her special food, her meds everyday and her dental chews. When I picked her up she was happy and healthy. I would not hesitate to board my dog at Alpine in the future. They do a great job. read more

I had a great experience with Alpine Animal Hospital this morning. I have an old injured dog, dislocated hip. Dr. Hixon was first of all professional, knowledgeable and above all kind. He was also straightforward and honest. In the best way possible he told me Hazel was "worn out". The kindest thing I can do is to euthanize her when I can no longer manage her pain adequately, unfortunately that will be sooner rather than later. I have just moved here from Colorado and think I am a pretty good judge of vets. I don't think you will find a better small animal vet. And by the way, their fee was very reasonable. read more

Although I don't have much experience with vets I do know doctors and my favorites always are ones that aren't afraid to field questions. Dr Hixson and Alpine Animal Hospital gets high marks from me. My cat doesn't seem to like these visits and has been known to attack during his examination. The staff's manner with the animal was excellent. They patiently answered all my questions. I gave him another star after my visit as I had to call in and had a couple of more questions. I thought I would just ask random people on his staff but he ended up talking to me and again patiently answering all of my questions.... great stuff. read more

The vets are exceptional. The front desk receptionist is hit or miss. There is a younger receptionist that was great. Today I had a horrible experience. After the woman ignored me and carried on a conversation with someone that was leaving, she was asking me the name of the medication (of course I had to guess the name because I don't memorize prescriptions) and they she took her time, and then to end it, she felt she had to let me know the medication had been called in almost two weeks ago as if she was waiting for me to explain myself. They have been our vet for over 3 decades. I can't say enough about how well they handle and care for pets. We have had to make the hard decision to put down 3 dearly loved dogs over the years, and the compassion and dignity shown by Dr. Clark and his staff are remarkable. Dr. Hixson is truly an animal whisperer, he can calm the most anxious animal with a gentle touch and word. I can't recommend them highly enough. Alpine easily accommodated my quick request for a vet visit--made an appointment only two days in advance! They were extremely helpful and happy and CLEARLY love their job (my dog seemed super stoked about all the treats and attention he received!) They were able to offer me a relatively affordable neuter service only a day in advance and went above and beyond offering to hold my puppy for the entire following day because of my work schedule at no additional charge! VERY happy about that! I think I have just found my permanent Vet Hospital! read more

My experiences with Alpine Animal Hospital have been amazing. When I have had to let go of a beloved pet the staff and wonderful vets were so understanding and helped me walk through that loss with such compassion. When I have a question I can call and someone will either find the answer or have someone who can answer the question call me back. Dr. Hixson and Dr. Clark have taken care of all our animal for many years and I would never go anywhere else. My pets are treated with such great care by the doctors and staff. I am always reminded when shots or checkups are needed so it is no need for me to even track those things which takes one thing off my plate of things to do. When there have been issues Dr. Hixson and/or Dr. Clark always explain all options fully and assist me in making the right health decisions for my animals. Dr. Hixson even answers questions I have about my chickens and I cannot tell you how wonderful that is. I recommend Alpine Animal Hospital to everyone I know and would recommend it to anyone who loves their animals and wants to get them top notch care from both staff and doctors. Years ago, when I was a poor college student, I found a kitten while kayaking. She was covered in mites, fleas, and had an eye infection so her eyes would not open. There was some outbreak at the time, so local shelters would not take the kitten, so I decided to keep it, and took it to this clinic. The Dr. took care of the kitten and as a kind gesture of humanity waved the fee. I feel like some veterinary clinics approach the health of our pets as an upsetting opportunity. This experience showed me this clinic puts the welfare of our pets and the community as a number one priority, above profit. The kitten (Phoebe) was quickly healed, and found a home with my another kind member of the community within the month. read more

Although we had a terrible experience one time at the dog boarding there, I absolutely love Dr. Hixson. He's the best vet we've ever had, I hope he never retires! He is an old-school vet, reminds me of good ol' country vet like James Herriott... He's no-nonsense and direct (which I like) and you can really tell that he cares about his patients. They have a pet portal so you can always have your pet's information on hand They stay on top of reminders and helped me and my dog through some tough health issues. My dogs and I have been clients of Alpine Animal Hospital for the past 5 years - and we have received nothing but outstanding care from the doctors and staff who work there. They have always been understanding, respectful, kind, and helpful to my needs and the needs of my furry family members. Over the past 1.5 years I have lived in a remote region of Alaska; during that time Alpine Animal Hospital has made themselves readily available for phone consults when my dogs got ill, or when I needed help acclimating them to their new environment. Halfway through my stint in Alaska it became apparent that my senior goldy girl (Sunny - a Goldren Ret. mix) would not be able to spend a second year up there with me, Alpine Animal Hospital was able to help my mom take care of my goldy girl and to help keep me apprised of her progress. I think most of these reviews are bogus. I don't know how long Alpine has been open, but I think it is about 40 years. My family used Alpine (most specifically Dr. Hixon) since I was a teenager. In the late 1970s, my Australian shepherd was dying. Dr. Hixon truly saved my dog. He rushed the blood work to OSU and ran it himself as there was not time to ship it to the normal lab before my dog would die (which took days then). Alpine continued to give excellent care to my: dogs, cats, and horse. They are my first choice for veterinary care. read more

They've been our vet for 9 years. Dr. Hixson (our primary vet) is always very calm and patient with our dogs. When we've seen Dr. Clark, he's been similarly competent. They don't try and sell meds & treatments we don't need. The staff are personable, helpful and have always been tolerant of all the questions I invariably think of 20 minutes after I've left their office. read more

Awful. I was new to town and went here on a recommendation. I sat in the waiting room with my nervous dog for well over an hour past our appointment time. There was nobody at the desk most of this time to ask about the wait. Once we got in to see the vet she looked over him really quickly, not commenting on his massive amount of tumors, missing teeth, bad eyes or any of the obvious stuff (he's a rescue dog who had a rough start). She prescribed an expensive ear medication I later found out he didn't need (we were there for fleas) and sent us on our way after spending about 5 minutes with us. Go somewhere else that will take care of your pet and not try to sell you things you don't need.. read more

I've used them since my dogs were puppies, and for my ferret before that. I guess it's been over 10 years. I drove from Portland to Corvallis for vet visits even after I moved. I've never had a single complaint. They have great prices, great service, and I really miss them. I did get a new vet out in Tigard, where I moved 3 months ago. I miss them, and am considering taking days off to drive them back for appointments. The only issue is Toby now has diabetes, and getting his insulin kept up could require me to take some days off just for his care. I highly recommend them, and I miss them. :) Great team! We have been going to Alpine for five years for all four of our pets. We have worked with all three vets and a number of technicians and have found them all to be compassionate, caring, and professional. They are generous with their time and patient with all my questions; I appreciate that they are thoughtful in presenting different procedures and the risks and benefits (including cost analysis). Drs. Porter, Cole and Hixon have been willing to spend time on the phone with me for followup as well. Customer service has always been excellent. There are times when I have had to wait a bit for our appointment, but also times when I have taken up a lot more time in the appointment room than was anticipated, and I appreciate that the staff at alpine are willing to do what is necessary to provide my pets with the best care. I recommend them highly and would not go anywhere else. read more

Alpine Is an amazing hospital! Our kitty got shot with a BB gun that shattered her front femur. Dr. Hixon and his staff were amazing. They got her right in.... Even though we didn't have an appointment. He did surgery the same day and the cost of everything was extremely reasonable. I live in Harrisburg but work in Corvallis so having them so close is practical. We ended up having to take her back ( No Fault on Alpine) because we were holding her outside and she got spooked and jumped out of my brother-in-law's arms and went missing for several hours. We were worried she may have re-injured her leg but after Dr. Hixon checked her... Everything was fine. He was so generous he even gave us $45.00 dollars worth of pain medications for free. I took my (tame, domestic) cat in for a check-up and shots. The assistant who came in was terrified of cats. She kept asking me to do *her* jobs for her (temperature, checking teeth, etc.) I thought she was joking, but I did it. Then, I asked her to pill my cat for worms, and she was clearly horrified. She attempted it (with me holding my cat), and at the first, little yelp (no pun intended), she put her hands up and said, "I'm sorry, we can't treat your cat. She's just too skittish." I have had cats my whole life and never heard a vet's office say that (including with the cat I own now). There's no excuse for that. And this isn't the only time they've been incompetent. I'm looking for a new vet now. read more
