I saw Dr. Peterson and Brooke, and they provided exceptional care from start to finish. Brooke has amazing bedside manner and made me feel comfortable the entire time, from the moment she called me back to when she walked me up front. Dr. Peterson was just as wonderful - she took the time to educate me about everything, explaining what I needed and why. I truly appreciated how thorough and patient she was. Terrible and bizarre experience. I called to make an appt as a new patient new to the area. I shared my dental insurance information and they couldn't find it. They called a week later saying they did find it, so we proceeded with the appt. I shared all information for my former dentist to transfer records. I came in and they said I needed x rays. I'd had X-rays a year ago, which I shared. They insisted I still needed x rays from them and sent two people in to persuasively talk to me about taking x rays right then. So I took the x rays. The tech seemed extremely unsure of what she was doing and fumbled several times with the equipment. We proceeded despite the discomfort and I thought all was fine. My visit to Alpine Creek Dental was the dental visit I wish everyone could have! From start to finish they were prompt, kind, professional, and empathetic. Compared to my years of being a patient at another dental clinic in Schaumburg, Alpine was a breath of fresh air! I was searching for a new dentist and serendipitously, I received a mailer from Alpine Creek and saw it as a sign and made an appointment for me and my 5 year old that day. The experience was excellent. Dr. Thurmon took her time in my initial exam and got to know me and my daughter who was getting ready to go to kindergarten. She didn't try and tell me to get my temporary crown replaced, just suggested we monitor it. She did point out how I am apparently grinding my teeth (who knew) and showed me the damage and did suggest a mouth guard in the future to protect my front teeth. The hygienist was very patient with my daughter and made her feel like such a brave girl. Can't recommend this office enough. read more

Had to replace an old silver filling and fix a chipped front tooth. I was in and out in less than an hour and they were great, as usual.

Soooo, I'm not afraid of the dentist, per se... but seeing Little Shop of Horrors with Steve Martin and Bill Murray as dentist and patient did have a profound effect on me as a child, as did Audrey with her leopard print everything, low cut tops, and big ass hair- obvi there's some deep seeded something going on here. Anyway, I stopped going to the dentist a loooong time ago. I had a scheduling conflict once about _ _ years ago (yep, those 2 lines means it's a double digit amount of years since I'd gone to the dentist) and then I just stopped going. At first I was afraid of being scolded for missing my appointment, and then as time passed, I was terrified of being yelled at for putting off going to the dentist for so long. I even went out of my way to get and pay for a really great dental plan for 3 years but never went... just pysched myself out about how I would probably get lectured and they'd pull my teeth out in spite. It was a heavy mental burden to bare for all those many, many years. Anyway, when I was a dentist going American I was patient at Sandell from the time I started to grow teeth until that one fateful day when I had to cancel an appointment due to a class schedule conflict. I vividly remember going when I was a kid, the Highlights magazines where I'd read Goofus and Galant in the waiting room, the distinctive voices of the husband and wife dentists, and one time singing a song about bullfrogs jumping off a log to the dentist. He liked it so much that he requested I sing it again every time I came in for the next 10 years, no joke. My song was so memorable/ enjoyable it stuck in his head that long... even though I always refused a repeat performance. Okay, back on track for realz now. My insurance was ending at the end of March and my Dad insisted that I go to the dentist before the time is up. I begged and pleaded for him to leave me alone about it, having thought for years that every last one of my teeth must have cavities and need root canals at this point. I actually had a plan that I'd hit it big one day and just get veneers so I didn't have to deal with these old used teeth anymore, so I wasn't really taking as good of care for them as I should have been... let's just say that flossing is not my strong suit. So my Dad breaks me down and makes me make an appointment. They were closed upon my initial call so I left a scared vm for them with my callback number thinking I'd prob never hear from them or they won't have any appointments open. I was wrong on both accounts. The super friendly receptionist called first thing Monday and got me scheduled for an appointment that very same week. It was so easy and I didn't get yelled at at all. When I got there I filled out a little paperwork for about 5 minutes where I basically expressed my fear of A. being yelled at, and B. that my teeth were rotting out of my head. With little to no waiting, I heard the still familiar voice of Dr. Laurie calling me back. After the _ _ years that I had gone MIA, Dr. Laurie and her Dr. Hubby still remembered me- though I didn't get any requests for my bullfrog song this time. I felt really at home and the whole time I was thinking about how crazy it was that they were being so nice to me- not cold or clinical at all. The cleaning was painless and Dr, Laurie was giving me compliments left and right. She said my my gums are in great shape, my teeth look great, I've been doing a great job cleaning them, etc. It was just the positive reinforcement I needed to get back into the dentally assisted American lifestyle. Once she was done with my cleaning and x-rays Dr. Don? (I totally forgot his name I was so enamored with Dr. Laurie) came over to check for cavities. Again, his voice was still the same from when I was a kid and I felt so at home. We chatted for a bit about hair color and such and took a little look-see in my mouth for cavities... and the whole time I was thinking he'd need an abacus to keep track of how many holes he saw. Lucky for me, the dental Gods were shining down and I was pronounced cavity free. He even spent extra time to answer all my silly questions and soothe my dental fears that I don't have any dead teeth and my wisdom teeth look like they might be fine to stay in my head. 5 stars all the way. I felt comfortable and at home in an environment where two people have their hands and tools basically inside my head. I'm actually pretty excited for my visit in September. :) Ps- the free toothbrush (of your choice), toothpaste, and floss were great perks as well. :) read more

Dr. Thurmon went way above and beyond, offering to come in on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend to fix a crown that popped off (that I've had for years before finding Dr. Thurmon). She was thorough and took pictures and xrays, examining the position of the crown, before determining it was ok to re-cement back in. I am so grateful to have been referred to her! She also worked with billing to make it affordable for me, as I do not have dental insurance. read more

I've been going to Dr. Thurmon's office for almost two years now and have had nothing but 5 star experiences every visit. As someone who avoided dental visits for almost 18 years due to fear and anxiety, it's pretty insane how comfortable I feel walking into her dental office now. Dr. Thurmon is fantastic. She takes the time to listen, offers thorough explanations for everything being done, and goes above and beyond to make sure you're always kept comfortable. My teen daughter is terrified of the dentist. I've been looking for a practice, where she'd feel comfortable, for years. I finally found it at Alpine Creek Dental. Dr Best calmed my daughter down right away and explained everything she was doing and also explained why. She never rushed and would ask if my daughter was okay along the way. Dr Best even said they could do the cleaning over two visits if necessary. When the appointment was over I couldn't believe it when my daughter left with s smile in her face!! Dr. Sandell & his team are the best! I've been a patient of Sandell Dental for more than 20 years, though I haven't always been the best or most regular patient. This last visit came after a few years "vacation" from the dentist. I had severely cracked a tooth in the evening. Holding the upper half of the tooth in my hand I thought for sure it was a lost cause. While I wasn't in pain - I was confident I would soon be short of one less molar. After talking to the doctor - he managed to calm me down and got me in the next day, stabilized the tooth and put in a temporary crown, which soon became a permanent crown. Through the whole process he calmly explained the procedure, which really was painless. Even the novocaine, which I hate the most, was slowly injected after numbing the gum, which he explained would eliminate any later swelling or pain that is caused from squeezing too much anesthetic in too quickly which damages the gum tissue . He was right - no pain either during the shot or after, or even during/after the procedure. And through everything he patiently answered all my questions (which were many) and explained all the steps. I can't say enough about Dr. Sandell and his team. I highly recommend him! He's the greatest and made me feel completely at ease. His calming chairside manner and light touch has convinced me it's time to get back to regular visits to the dentist and prevention read more
