My family has been patients of this practice for over 10 years, and it's disappointing to see a decline in the overall experience since the change in ownership. While Dr. Elia remains a fantastic dentist--skilled, caring, and personable--the office operations and patient care have noticeably changed. We first noticed a shift when Susan, the former office manager, left a couple of years ago. The welcoming, caring atmosphere she fostered hasn't been the same since. More recently, scheduling challenges and less helpful communication have added to our frustration. For example, my son, home from college, was told he has cavities, but the earliest appointment offered was after his return to school. I wasn't asking for special treatment but hoped for professional advice on how to proceed. My 14-year-old daughter also had a painful cleaning with a new hygienist and now feels reluctant to return. While we appreciate Dr. Elia's excellent care, the overall experience no longer reflects the high standard we once knew. But, Dr. Elia is hands down the best Dentist I've visited in my life. He's attentive, funny, kind.. and, most importantly-the guy knows his way around a mouth. We were fortunate to have been referred to Kopp Dental. From initial conversation with Jeanne, I knew we were where we were supposed to be. Jeanne had a calm and caring voice that helped me in my panic state. When we arrived my daughter was shaking. A kind associate found a soft blanket for her. Well worth the drive from Chicago! Kopp dental is awesome. I've been seeing Dr. Elia as my general dentist for years. It's a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, in a modern office. Dr. Kopp and the other board certified prosthodontists in the office truly do beautiful work. They recently did a giveaway on Facebook for guessing which teeth in patient photos were original or crowns/veneers and I couldn't tell (which is how it should be). I've been a patient at Kopp Dental for nearly 20 years. As a new patient, I quickly learned that my previous dentist wasn't as good or thorough as I thought. Dr. Elia fixed everything properly and was proactive about recommending a maintenance plan to ensure my teeth stay healthy. He is also really gentle -- if you are still nervous about getting anesthetic/injections, you haven't seen Dr. Elia! Although Dr. Elia is my primary dentist, I've seen Dr. Kopp, Dr. Guzaitis, Dr. Marinis and Janine -- they are all great and the entire staff is friendly and fun. Going to the dentist here doesn't feel like a drag and even though my wife and I live out of state now, we just plan our regular visits when we are home visiting family! read more

This review is more about business practices than dentistry expertise. I was referred to Kopp Dental and set-up an appointment. When filling out the initial paperwork I asked if they they were a provider with my specific insurance and they said they were. The doctor performed an initial examination and made a recommendation for treatment which I was in agreement with. They put a "consent form" in front of me saying this was just to authorize treatment, which seemed standard, so I signed while back on the chair without my glasses on. After performing the first part of the procedure, I had to schedule a second appt to complete. While at the font desk, I was able to see the form better and it contained an obligation to pay the full amount charged for the whole procedure. I questioned this of the front desk staff and Dr. Kopp was standing next to us as well. They said they would submit for what the insurance would pay, but it wouldn't change my obligation to the dental office. I knew this was not the way in-network providers are handled with my insurance carrier as the cost is also agreed to with providers. Then the front desk staff said that they were not in-network with my provider and my cost would be set by them, not the insurance provider. I would not have performed any part of the procedure had I known this as this is why I pay insurance premiums. I informed the office that I would not continue with the rest of the procedure and would seek out an in-network dentist. They said that was fine and charged me for the full amount saying I agreed to it. I would say this is not a reasonable response and was very disappointing. To make matters worse, they charged nearly $1,000 more for the entire procedure than other local providers. One of the competitive dentists down the street literally scoffed and rolled their eyes when I told them of the fees. After attempts to resolve at some reasonable amount, they simply submitted to collections for the full amount. Dr. Kopp may very well be a fine dentist, but this dental offices business practices are not even close to best in class. Beware, ask very specific questions, know that they are not in-network for any plan and be prepared to pay a 100% premium over competitive dentists. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Guzaitis of Kopp Dental for a little over a year now. While, I don't think I've ever met Dr. Kopp, the staff and Dr. Guzaitis have been great to deal with. They've all been very friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and communicated things in an extremely professional way. I've had Dentists that have treated me more like a commodity to get in and out of their chair as quickly as possible, Dr. Guzaitis has always seemed like he cares about his patients and genuinely a nice guy.
