We stayed in Hill City just to eat here. Let me say it didn't disappoint. It's packed so unless you go at 4:00 to get on the list expect an hour or more wait. The restaurant opens at 5:00 but the lounge opens at 4:00. Nice place to unwind after a day of exploring the area. The star here is the bacon wrapped filet mignon. It was tender and cooked perfectly. The menu is limited to two items, but the filet is what you come for. The lettuce wedge with homemade ranch dressing is excellent. The desserts are awesome.

The menu does include a couple of kids menu options too.

We always make sure to eat at the Inn while visiting this beautiful part of the country. We were there the night of the restaurant reopening after their winters break. The staff is always super nice, friendly and efficient. The bacon wrapped filet is always cooked perfectly (medium rare, any other way is blasphemy;)) and you must save room for dessert! The bread pudding, as described by my daughter, is a million out of 10! P.S. It is cash only, and there is an ATM available if need be.

Historic Charm and Flavor That Lingers! What a delightful discovery during our Black Hills adventure--the Alpine Inn in Hill City stole our hearts (and stomachs) from the first step inside. We popped in for a quick lunch bite, and it turned into the highlight of our day, pulling us back for more the very next morning. The interior is straight out of a storybook: rustic wooden beams, vintage decor, and that incredible history woven into every corner--it's like stepping back in time to the Gold Rush era, with tales of miners and pioneers that the staff shares so passionately. We started with the meat and cheese board (generous portions of local cured meats, sharp cheeses, and fresh accompaniments that had us scraping the plate clean) paired with a steaming bowl of New England Clam Chowder--creamy, chunky with tender clams, and just the right kick of herbs. Comfort food at its finest! But the real showstopper? Their sauerkraut. Fresh off a trip to Germany, we were craving a comparison and spotted it on the menu. No time to linger at lunch, so we dashed back the next day for an order to go. One bite (okay, we couldn't wait till the car), and wow--over the top! Tangy, perfectly fermented, with that authentic crunch and depth of flavor that rivaled (and maybe even edged out) what we savored in Bavaria. We kicked ourselves for not grabbing a few more orders to enjoy on our way home to Denver!

This is a must try for the dinner hour. Featuring a 17.99 6oz filet or a 19.99 9 oz filet including a wedge salad, baked potato and Texas toast. Be sure to check in and get your pager at 4pm for a 5pm start to dinner seating. Desserts are fantastic and remember cash only.

The aesthetic to this place is great. The food has some ups, but overall was pretty mediocre and a bit expensive. A very limited menu - only 2 choices for dinner! The vegetables on one meal were pretty good. The other meal, the baked potato wasn't baker well and the steak wasn't cooked to the right temperature. The salad and ranch dressing were very good though. Staff were nice and service was quick. You can only pay in cash, and they do have an ATM on site. You then take your check up to the front and then you go and pay at the cashier. It's an unorthodox set up. People around us were getting desserts and seemed to like them, but we didn't try it as our dinner was only okay.

9oz filet mignon, baked potato & Texas toast.

Simple; salad wedge, bacon wrapped filet mignon, potato. Delicious. Reasonable. Check in early get a pager & have a drink in the lounge. Tip: Cash only. There is a ATM in the lounge.

Food was terrible and waitress a disaster. Dark and old interior. They actually have an ATM machine because they only take cash!
