Because it was across the street from the 1880's Train, the location was convenient. But to be honest, the food was rather bland and generic. We had a breakfast with scrambled eggs that was overcooked and "clumpy". They also seemed short staffed even though our waiter was friendly. The season was winding down so maybe that had something to do with it. If nothing else is open then this is okay, but next time we'll probably look at other options. read more

The people are nice. The inside smells like bleach so we had to move outside even though was cold. I swear all the food is out of a jar or bag and meat was all frozen and reheated. Seeing other reviews, we didn't come in with the highest of hopes, but with so many other places already closed for the season, this was where we ended up. It didn't start off well. We waited a long time to be greeted after we were seated, and then we waited for food too. Once it came, however, we were pleasantly surprised. Coffee was delicious. Omelettes and potatoes were good too. I really liked my blueberry muffin that came with my meal. Our daughter liked her Dakota special. Pancakes were delicious. We were in Keystone last week. We rode the 1880 Train and as we got off, right there was The Front Porch. It was so inviting. We were pleasantly pleased. Our server was excellent and well-informed. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the fried mushrooms. The best I've ever eaten. They were deep-fried, but not breaded. They had like a tempura batter on large sliced mushrooms. We really enjoyed our dinner here while in Keystone. It was an easy 4 min walk from our hotel and our table outside had a very pretty view of the woods. We did the kids steak bites, French dip with cheese added, and the miner sandwich. Everything tasted great, though was a little slow to come out. The fries were our favorite. They were cut in a flat shape so were a little crispy. Our waitress, Katherine, was amazing. She was friendly and attentive and I laughed when our food came out and she brought ketchup AND ranch without us asking. My kids put ranch on everything and I thought that foresight was so great. They didn't have a bartender so we weren't able to order drinks, which was a disappointment. Overall, for the convenience to where we were staying and the price, I'd come here again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! After a 2-hour train ride, we were eager to find a good bite. We stopped by the Front Porch, and we all grabbed a really nice bite. The burgers were delicious, which most of my family ordered. I ordered the grilled cheese kids meal, which my son devoured. The fries were sliced potato wedges, which he loved. I ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich, which came with coleslaw. All of it was super flavorful and fresh tasting. The bathrooms were clean. Service was good. We are on a boys trip, checking out the old west. Having fun in deadwood and of course staying in Keystone. Decided to have breakfast and stumbled onto this little gem. I had pancakes, eggs, and bacon combination. I will say that I've never had such thick bacon before in my life, and it was absolutely delicious. Sweet cream pancakes tasty as could be. I was hungry for a Buffalo burger and wanted an outside table since we had our dog with us. FP is a good, but expensive option in Keystone. FP is connected to the Ramada hotel. The waiter brought me a good IPA from Sioux Falls. I had the Mountain Man Burger, a blend of wild boar, bison, elk, antelope and deer. This was a good burger. Was it REALLY a half pound of meat? I have had half-pound burgers before and this burger should have been a little bigger than it was. The patty didn't even cover the bun. Also not sure of the $17 price tag, but I would order this burger again. The fries that came with the burger were cut thin and chip-like. Very good. My family had the bacon chicken ranch wrap and the Philly cheesesteak. They liked the food, but thought it was a bit overpriced. For outdoor seating, I liked the fact that the tables are on the shady side of Keystone. Not as much people watching on this side, but very relaxing. Restrooms are near the pool area of the Ramada. Overall we left with full bellies and were happy with what we got. The price was good and it was a quiet place given that many of the tourists were either on the main road or weren't around due to school starting. We tried this restaurant after a long day at Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore. They advertise as a bar, however only beer and wine are available. I had a burger which was very overcooked and dry. The fries that came with it were too thin to be french fries and too thick to be potato chips. They were very crispy (not in the good way) regardless of what they were called. Not likely we will ever be back in this part of the country again, so no follow up review will be forthcoming. read more

I'll keep it simple. It comes down to the food. I ordered the Holy Terror Burger, based on admittedly old but positive reviews. It was HORRIBLE. The burger was extremely overdone and dry, only made worse by the lack of spicy Mayo on the sandwich which is supposed to come on it. When the waiter checked in, I asked and received a side of mayo, but at that point my food was cold. Very disappointed. I hope this is not a typical occurrence at the establishment. I'm not one to complain and usually write off bad experiences until I've had the opportunity to try something twice, but I feel like I needed to explain the situation I was in at the The Front Porch. 1. Only two out of 11 of our meals came out correct. Non of them had the correct sides - they were missing fries, dressings, and additions. 2. We had three ketchup bottles and they were all empty. We asked to have them refilled immediately and multiple times afterwards. We never got any ketchup. 3. One of the people in our party ordered a chef's salad with Italian dressing. They instead received a side salad with honey mustard dressing. 4. We received all of our food and asked for silverware. We waited 10 minutes or more for forks. 5. We asked for high chairs immediately after being seated but ordered our food and drinks before they were delivered. 6. My son's cheeseburger was missing the cheese. My wife pointed out that he wanted cheese and the waitress asked my 9 year old if he still wanted the cheese. I'd like to write this all off because they were really busy but that wasn't the case. The waitress was nice and the hostess was was great but that was where the great experience ended. We didn't ask for a discount or anything but only to not pay for all of the missing food. The waitress offered a discount but we never received it, nor did we point that out to her. We paid and left as quickly as possible. FYI - the food was 'ok' - hence the 2 stars. read more

Definitely just a restaurant to grab food if you're in the area & hungry, it's made for tourists- gross food for an expensive price. The burgers were decent but the veggie burgers were terrible. They are the beyond burger patties. Taste nothing like real meat & definitely look nothing like it either. Looks incredibly fake. Would rather have a morning star black bean burger from the freezer. The food was so good!!! I got the veggie wrap with steamed veggies. They were so fresh and good I wanted more! The wait was the worst part. We waited 20-30 minutes on our food. I would not recommend if you are in a hurry. Otherwise, it is a great place to eat. Also the flies are horrible, but that is because it is South Dakota and it is 100 degrees out (sarcastically). They get in your food a lot, and it's like they are all at your table, and no where else. Great Place!!! Not so good wait and terrible flies. read more
