When it comes to AT and tele equipment, it's so hard to find someone who knows what they're talking about. These guys are the real deal! Very affordable backcountry ski rentals and they even let me apply my rental money towards a boot/binding purchase. I've never had better fitting boots (definitely go with the DFP footbeds) and they helped pick the right binding for ME without the "tough guy attitude" you can find at other shops. Also, my wife broke her ancient AT binding earlier this season. Not only did they have the exact part she needed, but they were able to repair it right on the spot! read more

I have been on trips with Alpine Quest and purchase most of my river gear from them. I also refer friends to them who want to rent paddleboards and kayaks prior to heading out to the Upper C. It's in a great location and they are always very accommodating with AT gear and river gear. I recently had a warranty issue with a paddleboard and brought it to Chris who worked for over a month with the company. After a lot of back and forth and his unwavering checks in with the company, they eventually replaced my board and he even got me an upgrade. This is my home spot for a multitude of sports. Backcountry skiing or kayaking, for me. Alpine Quest has knowledgeable staff that actually participate in these sports unlike big box corporate chain stores. They live and play here. They're not seasonal transplants. Of course, if you need something they don't have they will get it for you likity-split and in record time. They can help you figure out what you need if you're not sure yourself because you are new to an activity they support. That goes for big stuff too. I ordered a sea kayak which is not the norm for them and they didn't even bat an eye! They offer kayak instruction with very experienced instructors who can paddle BIG water and are members of SAR and are ACA certified. Went in there today to look around but was Immediately unwelcomed at the door by some overweight guy with a beard. I asked if they had demo Skilogics and he snapped, we only rent tele gear. No kidding? Does he think I am as stupid as he is to walk into a tele kayak store to rent downhill gear? Then he told me they didn't carry Skilogic anymore...by the looks of their inventory they don't carry much anymore, and I bet this rude guy who I heard mock another customer asking about bindings is a big reason. Been coming to this shop for years, but I will just mail order what I need without the sass from now on...fire the dude! read more

My husband was looking for some new liners for his ski boots. They had a pair in stock and in his size. Figured it would cost less than new boots. The salesman inserted them into the boots to see if they fit. They did so my husband says to the guy, I'll let you remove them since I don't own them yet and didn't want to risk damaging the liners upon removal. The salesman yanked on them so hard that he ended up breaking the ski boot. A part of the boot went flying off. Here's what the salesman says and I quote " I would apologize but I didn't do anything wrong" can you believe that? seriously? he just broke the ski boot and that was his reaction! My husband says well I won't be needing the liner anymore since I'll have to buy new booths. The salesman says and I quote " well I see where this is going" really? What kind of customer service is this? Needless to say we would NEVER buy anything from this store. unbelievable! DO NOT GO HERE! read more

I previously had a bad experience here but that could have been my response at the time. That said, these folks are the only telemark ski shop in the Vail Valley. I needed new boots, my last boots were from 97 with over a thousands days. So I patron this local shop again and got a completely different experience. They really know what they are doing and are genuinely there to give you the most enjoyable skiing experience. Good selection of backcountry gear too. read more

Had a great experience at Alpine Quest. I had been looking to rent an up to date Dynafit AT setup. None of the stores in Boulder had anything close. Another place up in the mountains bailed at the last moment almost aborting my trip. Eventually I found the Alpine Quest. Binding mount, stupid simple, but I got total FUBAR. Even after discussing and deciding that boot center should be on ski center, I get the darn thing mounted exactly 14mm back from center. If you have no clue about racing, boot fitting, ski tuning, or boot position on the ski, then this may be above your scope of experience. I have extensive experience in all of these areas, and I know how hard it is to scope out a 'true' professional. My boot center is 14mm behind the ski center, and after testing, total catastrophe on the mount. Thanks for the 10 useless holes in each ski that really did not need to be there!!!! I will never shop, buy, or get work done there again. read more
