She looked like she had ascended more than a couple beastly mountains in her life. And the other customer who was in had a long-standing rapport with her (like she outfits his et al's weekly trips). I felt like I was in good hands. Really convenient to just stop by for last-minute camping/backpacking/hiking needs. They've got meals and gear and anything you need.

They are a bike shop and you can sign up for a rental to ride a nice paved trail around the historical mining areas in Leadville. Now before you decide to ride a bike in Leadville you definitely need to be prepared for the elevation and the up hill at times, but the views , the down hills, and history made it worth it ounce of sweat. This is a MUST DO when in Leadville. No better way to get to know this laid back mountain town.

This was incredibly useful information for two non-cyclist from Texas eager to get out for a joy-ride:) They also tipped us off to a store down the street, Common Threads, to purchase a lightweight backpack to carry our phones, water, and such. I found the perfect bag there for $13 AND a souvenir Colorado tube mask/scarf/hat combo which came in super handy against the heavy winds in some parts of the trail. **I learned recently that covering your ears can help prevent ear infections by preventing pollens and such from entering--makes a lot of sense! We signed waivers, paid the $25/day bike rental fee, were provided bikes, helmets, and a map and were on our way! The rental checkout and return process was quick and easy and great memories were made:) My only suggestions for improvement relate to the opportunity to sell some small, affordable, lightweight backpacks in-store (as awesome as it is to recommend neighboring businesses!) as well as the need for some bike maintenance on the rentals. My front tire was a bit low, handle grips kept slowly spinning--wouldn't stay in place, and I had some wiggling back in forth in my seat. Some of those things didn't become apparent until we were working our way over to the trail and we didn't want to delay our trip by turning back to request those things be checked or have to retrace our route as the streets were uphill and required some work. Also, it would have been super helpful to have kickstands on the bikes as we were interested in taking photos quite often along Mineral Belt Trail and found it challenging to coordinate that without kickstands. All-in-all, I would certainly recommend Cycles of Life for bike rentals (though maybe spend some time double-checking the bike before taking off) and would gladly recommend the business to friends.

(This is my fault- I should've thought huh- it's gonna be hot in summer; so remember I'm shopping for the colder months) That said- I did have the foresight to think "what other fun things can I do in Leadville while shopping for my Melly"- and this town has nothing short of great mountain adventures all year round. :) Staff was very friendly- we kinda arrived maybe an hour before our reservation, but they still let us in to shop. Now I'm thinking I should make my reservation for 6-9 months... when I can wear my Melly immediately and it'll be a bit chillier. :)

Over the recent March spring break, I had an amazing time skiing at Keystone, Vail and Breckenridge. When I finished skiing Vail (day 2 of my 3-day pass), I put my personal skis on the resting rack and went inside to my locker. When I came back, my skis were gone. Next to them however were a similar, but clearly not the same pair of K2s with a sticker on them with some renter's name. It didn't take long to put two-and-two together -- renter was being negligent and picked up the wrong skis. Vail Security was very nice and contacted the rental company (Charter) for verification of the renter's name and information. Go figure, those K2s left behind wound up in Vail's lost-n-found box that night and my skis went missing for over 24 hours. By the time they were returned to this Charter, I was already heading out of town but was assured they'd FedEx my skis. One week later, no skis... Called this Charter and got TJ, the "manager" who told me that they hadn't shipped my skis out yet because they were waiting on a box to fit them. WTH? Pretty sure in a land of skis, there's a box hanging around or two. Either way my ski season is over so while waiting for them is annoying, it's not a huge deal. But then the next words out of this guy's mouth floored me... Guy: "So shipping is going to be $27. Is that OK?" Me: "Yes, that's fine, but I'm not paying for it." Guy: "Well, we're not paying for it." Me: "Well, the renter who took my skis needs to pay for it then." Guy: "Unfortunately, they're long gone by now." Hmm...if anyone has ever rented skis you know you have to give the rental company all your information. I hope this Charter has enough good business sense to have written that information down. On top of the fact that the renter not only took someone's skis, but they left behind their rentals in Vail -- I've got to imagine that this so-called business has a hefty penalty fee for lost skis and similar situations. So the way I see it, Charter is in possession of my personal skis which were taken by someone who they rented skis to and is now holding them for ransom to cover the cost of shipping. Horrible standing that has sadly come down to us having to get the police involved. If I could give zero stars, I would, but instead I'll just say rent from the other resorts -- it's clear this business (or at least, location) doesn't want to be accountable for its services.
