Fortunately, when Dean was close to retirement ( age 76) he decided to sell his equipment and recipes to another generation of Bratwurst makers. Unfortunately no one from Bucyrus picked up the torch and Southland drive thru closed. I was fortunate enough to find this article on the internet prior to coming back home to Bucyrus last week for a yearly visit. Located in a village of about 300 residents, G & R Tavern has become one of Ohio's most popular destination restaurants. Visitors come from all over the state to try the sandwich that put this small-town tavern on the map. Founded in 1962 by George Yake and Roy Klingel, G & R Tavern has become a true Ohio institution. In 1985, Rick's family purchased the restaurant and has continued the tradition ever since. In a time when many independent restaurants struggle to survive from one generation to the next, that's something worth celebrating. The atmosphere is exactly what longtime fans have come to love.
