I bought 2 hats there. Satisfying selection and prices. I would definitely recommend Al's for hat purchases. They have belts too.

I do NOT recommend Bencraft Hatters! I had a terrible experience with a hat purchase in December…read more2022. I ordered a brand new Stetson Saxon in Graphite, but they sent me an old stock in Charcoal instead. The hat also did not come with a Stetson hat box but in a Bencraft hat box. When asked, Bencraft insisted that the colors are similar (they are not), and that their box is better than Stetson's because Bencraft's has a handle (I prefer Stetson's box which has on its side a paper label with hat info). I called the store several times to ask for a replacement, but nothing has been done. They also did not return calls/texts despite their promises to do so. Many calls were also not answered and went straight to voicemail. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed in Bencraft Hatters for their lack of intent to make things right and I will be buying my hats elsewhere from now on.

I walked out with a really nice Guerra and on another occasion a Borsalino. easy to get there by train, about 1 min from the subway station. probably the last old time hat shop left in NYC. worth it. Sundays are nice days to shop, the owner is always there, I got Borsalinos there for $350 that cost $500-600 elsewhere. theyre the only guys who still steam up your hat for free, too. Overall a pretty good experience

I've always Been treated with kindness and hospitality . Their efficiency is hard to beat. Many times my jobs were done right in front of me, or I take a walk and it's completed in an hour. Most of all..the work is always CLEAN. Her work looks like it should.. it's always perfect...the angles in her bows, everything looks vintage authentic and legit. This is the one to go to, only her.. I trust her with my most very important jobs.. the results are always overwhelmingly pro, clean and beautifu.

A few weeks later, I walked by again and there was no hat class in progress. I popped in just to see what EVH is all about, as I love super niche businesses like this. I walked in and the owner was helping out a few other people, so I just perused around for a second. I had my airpods in with no music playing, hiding in plain sight. I heard the owners AWESOME British accent and thought to myself "wow it's really a vibe in here." At this exact moment, I spotted a hat that really caught my eye. It was a hat that had a mix matched denim pattern that could be paired with almost any outfit. I had a vision of me buying this hat and it becoming an integral part of my personality. "Oh, there goes the guy with the cool hat walking up 1st ave" onlookers would say as they walked by, jealous of my cool new hat. Cute girls would come up to me at the Wayland and or Ding-a-Ling saying "Oh my god, I love your hat!" ... "You haven't been to East Village Hats!??!?!?!" I would respond to them with a cheeky, endearing smile. However, when I picked up the hat it was like $130 and that's just out of my price range for a hat at this moment. Also, I have an extremely large head so the hat was probably a pipe dream all along. A man could dream can't he...?

Overpriced Garbage - Stay Away!!! I bought a kapota from…read morePrimo Kapota over a year ago, thinking that since their prices are extraordinarily expensive, they must offer high quality and great service. I was very, very wrong. Despite paying such a high price, the quality was absolutely terrible. The kapota ripped apart in places that I barely even touch. After just a few months, I went back to them, expecting some level of responsibility. Instead, they shrugged it off and said, "Yeah, we don't know. That's your problem." Rather than fixing it properly, they just patched over the holes. And, of course, after a few months, the patches ripped again--plus new holes appeared! When I went back again, they told me, "Yeah, this is your problem." At first, they charged me $50 to patch up two small holes. Now, for the same holes plus a new one, they suddenly want $400! (I found much better tailor Bugi who did WONDERFUL job only for $40!!!!!!) This is outrageous. These people are scammers and charlatans. They charge a premium price for a garbage product and then try to squeeze even more money out of you for useless "repairs." Stay far, far away!
