Trying on hats - no, I did not get this one.
    Jeff H.

I would say this has been a 5 star experience all the way. While in town for a few days, the ladies in our lives lined up a boys day for us and a girls day of shopping for them. The boys day started with a sauna and shave at Paul Labrecque with lunch at Armani Ristorante. In between we would be stopping by Worth & Worth for Louis' annual hat purchase. As luck would have it, the night before as I rounded a corner the wind grabbed my New Zealand cap and blew it away. It happened so fast that by the time my hand reached my head it was gone and when I whipped around I didn't even catch a glimpse of it. We could only spend a minute looking for it since we had a show to catch and the others were in the first taxi. A call to the niece and boyfriend who lived upstairs resulted in a fruitless search in the cold. So during my wintery stroll from E 76th & 2nd to Paul Labrecque (W 67th and Columbus) through Central Park, my thoughts of "I'll enjoy looking at hats" changed to "I need a new hat ASAP". The even colder walk from there to Worth&Worth steeled my resolve to keep my head warm. When we arrived to the 6th floor location we were warmly greeted by Brandon who immediately recognized Louis. The shop was a little busy - Brandon was helping one client and a young woman was waiting for assistance. So we started looking for hats and styles that would suit our needs. In between working with the other client, Brandon would offer suggestions and advice. We also chatted with the young woman who had purchased an expensive hat at another store that doesn't work on them and it didn't fit quite right. We, of course, good naturedly teased her about not coming here in the first place and she agreed that she should have. After finishing with the other client, and assisting the young woman, Brandon helped us. he measured and discussed and narrowed down the choices. Now you must know - they have a selection of hats ready to wear, but they also make them to order. The workshop is right there behind the showroom with a small team of crafts-persons. The hat core is usually imported, but he finalized hat is done there in the workshop - the band installed, the blocking, etc. Since I was visiting from out of town, I was looking for a ready to wear. Louis, on the other hand, was getting one custom made. By the time I was measured and narrowed the selection down to a Felt hat, the Firenze model, and Louis to his normal selection, the Fellini, the shop had several persons waiting and we were hungry. So we had Brandon set aside the two hats I was interested in, and told him we would be back after some fortification - soup and bourbon at Armani. Upon our return we met Orlando, the owner of W&W. Between he and Brandon we were taken well care of, finalized our hat selections and were on our way. I had a slight change to the hat band, so had to return later to pick it up. It was ready to go when they promised. They also gave me a hat bag to keep the hat stored correctly and a brush to brush out the felt after each use. My final visit during this trip was to pick up an item I left in the store. This time I had my wife and daughter with me. Orlando and Brandon treated them as if they were old friends and showed them around the showroom and even invited them to see the workshop. Each time I was there, there was at least one other person in the showroom. Yet even with the constant stream of people, they handled every person with the personal attention they deserved. I would not think of going elsewhere for my next hat or cap.

Walked into Worth & Worth to buy a lower priced straw hat and left with two hats. Fantastic, comfortable no pressure experience.

The customer service in this store is absolutely the worst I've ever experienced…read more I ordered a hat in-store and was told it would be delivered there for pickup. A week later, I received an email saying the hat had arrived. When I got to the store, the employee told me the wrong hat was ordered. I said fine, here's my number -- return it and get the correct one. Another week goes by, and when I come back, the same hat is still sitting in the box -- not even returned. Lazy employees, no urgency, and the store feels more like a hangout spot than a place of business. Customers shouldn't have to deal with this kind of nonsense. The sales rep never processed the return, so I had to request a refund myself. Still no hat, just wasted time and money (including paying for parking in SoHo). All I heard was, "Oh, I'm sorry." Sorry doesn't fix terrible service. Completely unprofessional -- everything about this place is trash. The store needs serious management or maybe just let AI run it because at least robots would do the job.

A few weeks later, I walked by again and there was no hat class in progress. I popped in just to see what EVH is all about, as I love super niche businesses like this. I walked in and the owner was helping out a few other people, so I just perused around for a second. I had my airpods in with no music playing, hiding in plain sight. I heard the owners AWESOME British accent and thought to myself "wow it's really a vibe in here." At this exact moment, I spotted a hat that really caught my eye. It was a hat that had a mix matched denim pattern that could be paired with almost any outfit. I had a vision of me buying this hat and it becoming an integral part of my personality. "Oh, there goes the guy with the cool hat walking up 1st ave" onlookers would say as they walked by, jealous of my cool new hat. Cute girls would come up to me at the Wayland and or Ding-a-Ling saying "Oh my god, I love your hat!" ... "You haven't been to East Village Hats!??!?!?!" I would respond to them with a cheeky, endearing smile. However, when I picked up the hat it was like $130 and that's just out of my price range for a hat at this moment. Also, I have an extremely large head so the hat was probably a pipe dream all along. A man could dream can't he...?
