A few weeks later, I walked by again and there was no hat class in progress. I popped in just to see what EVH is all about, as I love super niche businesses like this. I walked in and the owner was helping out a few other people, so I just perused around for a second. I had my airpods in with no music playing, hiding in plain sight. I heard the owners AWESOME British accent and thought to myself "wow it's really a vibe in here." At this exact moment, I spotted a hat that really caught my eye. It was a hat that had a mix matched denim pattern that could be paired with almost any outfit. I had a vision of me buying this hat and it becoming an integral part of my personality. "Oh, there goes the guy with the cool hat walking up 1st ave" onlookers would say as they walked by, jealous of my cool new hat. Cute girls would come up to me at the Wayland and or Ding-a-Ling saying "Oh my god, I love your hat!" ... "You haven't been to East Village Hats!??!?!?!" I would respond to them with a cheeky, endearing smile. However, when I picked up the hat it was like $130 and that's just out of my price range for a hat at this moment. Prices are much better than M&J Trimmings, although the selection of silk flowers is much smaller and not as fancy. Most were $5 or $8 and come with a clip, ponytail holder, and pin already attached, although some just have the clip, for your hair or a lapel. Or a hat. The hats are mostly polyamide and come in every shape, style, and color. This is a fun store, and the cashier was friendly and helpful.

My issue with both locations, they don't offer customization with their products. What impressed me mostly with Bellissimo Custom Hats, is right in the title. They are custom hats that are made in house by hand. They have antique hat machines and sewing machines being used by real people. Bellissimo Custom Hats are just that, its not a massed produced product that you'd buy in a department store. Reading the past yelp reviews had me a little spooked. When I buy a hat, I want to try on the hat as well as inspect the fit and finish. That's why I decided to drive from Long Island to their showroom. Parking? Sucks. I was lucky to find a spot a block away. I get to the front door and I was buzzed inside. Once inside, there are many beautiful hats on display. The sales person had me waiting a few while he finished up his telephone call. Once his call was completed, I introduced myself and said would like to purchase a Camel Fox Fedora. He explained there aren't any in house but there is something similar, its a camel hat but with a smaller ribbon. I try on a medium and fell in love with the fit, finish and color. Sold! Look at my picture, its a pretty dope hat. The gentleman put my purchase in a standard hat box, for $75 bucks I could of purchased an upscale hat box. The cardboard box is fine. Finally on Dec 31st their customer service rep picks up the phone. Was informed that the color that I ordered was out of stock at the manufacturer, and they were suppose to reach out and inform me. Asked if I wanted another color, of which I said no and requested a refund. He informed me that he didn't have the authority to provide a refund, he would contact the owners and they would get back to me. This never took place, they never responded. Called several more times with the same results. The company lacks integrity, it shouldn't be hard to provide a refund for an item that is out of stock. I'll more forward by contacting card company to get my money refunded.
