Saw them for a skin check and hair treatment consultation. At the skin check appointment they never had me get up off the chair for the whole body check. Seemed hurried and they didn't explain much. They said I needed nitroglycerian sprayed on precancerous spots but neglected to inform me it costs $117 per spray. So it costs almost $250 dollars for a fifteen minute appointment in which a whole body check wasn't even done. Next was the hair consultation which was supposed to be incredibly thorough and informative. Fifteen minutes later, after paying $150 upfront, they said hair loss is usually genetic, to take Rogain and go get a blood test from a third party they recommend. They wanted to make a follow up appointment after I did this. $400 dollars for half worth of mediocre services and they wanted to try and get more money by having me come back to another appointment in which they suggested there's nothing you can do anyways. I hadn't been to a dermatologist in years and honestly I'm skeptical of these people now. I wouldn't call the folks at Alta Vista dermatology health care workers and highly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Another provider recommended this practice to me for a specific laser procedure. When I called to schedule a consultation, I told the receptionist that I wanted a consult for this procedure. I was required to pay a $50 deposit for the consultation, that would be applied to the procedure later. When I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist let me know that I had been scheduled with someone who was not qualified to perform the procedure, didn't know anything about it, and that I would need to reschedule to speak with the doctor if I still wanted to move forward. I was not able to just get my deposit refunded and go elsewhere. I went ahead and made an appointment (three weeks later) to consult with the doctor, at which time I scheduled the procedure for the first available date of 2 and a half months out. Each time I tried to call the office to schedule, I had to leave multiple voicemails before I got a call back. I was never able to reach a person on the phone when I tried to call. As the weeks passed, I became more uncomfortable using this office for my scheduled laser treatment after the lack of organization and response I had already experienced, so I decided to cancel and go to another practice. Over the course of a week, I called at least 15 times. My call was never answered by a human that entire time, and voicemails asking for a reply were not returned. Finally, I just left a voicemail letting them know I needed to cancel. I have not received a response or call back to this day. I also forfeited the deposit, which in all honesty is probably worth it to have dodged the poor business practices at this business. read more

Dr. Szabo saved my life. After seeing a different derm at a different practice over the course of a few months and three appointments regarding a mole on the sole of my foot, I was told each time it was "normal." Although, I had not been seen at Alta Vista in a few years, the staff worked me in. I returned to Dr. Szabo. She took my concerns seriously and immediately biopsied it and called me a few days later with results after hours with concerning news. It was a very serious acral melanoma. She urged me have a oncological surgeon remove it asap, which I did. And luckily, my sentinel lymph biopsy showed the cancer did not spread to my lymphatic system. She and her staff have been following me closely and gone above and beyond to make sure I have routine skin check appointments. This practice and the entire staff have gone above and beyond for myself & my family! I urge everyone reading this to check the soles of their feet and palms of their hands and schedule an annual skin check with Alta Vista. Tell them Beck & Jazzy sent you! read more

First off, they don't answer their phones, I waited on hold for 15 minutes, 3 times just to have the machine say we need to transfer to our voice mail, leave a message. Next, I went through the whole process of being examen and at the very end the PA found something that they had to do a biopsy on... I freaked out because she was so matter of fact about the whole thing and I was really scared. I am a breast cancer survivor and her lack of caring. She did the biopsy and because of the way I was handled I decided to call the office and speak to the office manager Amanda, she basically told me that, that they do this every day and that is how dermatology works. I do not sit completely naked and am treated like a piece of meat told her I have had an exam before, and it was nothing like this. There was compassion. It felt like a meat market. There is much more I can write but I am getting upset again. I did call again yesterday because there was a message in the portal for me, you can't get in unless you have a code and ID. I called again and was on hold with the same message at the end. I demanded a call back and to my surprise I got one. Got the codes and was also told that the biopsy was benign. Yay!!! but I had a gut feeling that it would be and to be honest I felt like it was a scam and it didn't need to be done. I am sorry I didn't read all the reviews prior, it seems this is a horrible place to go and of course there will be NO second chance. read more

Don't be fooled, there are no doctors here!! PAs run the show, and they only push the latest overpriced medication straight to the pharmacy they conveniently own downstairs. The drugs don't work and the side effects are brutal. The billing is predatory, and they'll fight you on insurance every time. I can't stand your practice. I will not be coming back. I don't know why I keep giving you chances but today's appointment was my last straw. Every provider there is cold, short, rushed and uncaring. The good ones have left and I can see why. I am a menopausal woman dealing with multiple various skin, nail and hair issues. It is very traumatic and emotional process to go through. Your providers are too young to understand or care. One day you'll find out, as you can't escape aging. I'm sure MANY of your patients are older. Amanda is the worst office manager I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. We will be leaving this office and warning others due to her behavior. She is extremely aggressive on the phone, and accused us of kicking the furniture when a teenager tripped and fell over in the office. She refused to fill needed prescriptions or file the necessary paperwork, instead delaying it and blaming it on the pharmacy whose hands were tied without her sending the information over. There's a reason this is the easiest dermatologist in the area to get an appointment with. Never in my life have I dealt with worse office staff. read more

This is place is awesome if you love being robbed. I had an annual skin exam in August of 2023 and scheduled another in July of 2024. When I showed up for my July 2024 appointment, I was alerted I had a balance to pay before I could be seen. Confused and surprised, I paid the balance like a shmuck because I needed to be seen. (turns out they dont accept my new insurance so I couldn't be seen regardless, but that's aside the point) Later that week, I received the bill in the mail in which I paid at my appointment. It was for my August 2023 visit (nearly a year later!) and it said "insurance pending". Confused, again, I looked at the EOB in my insurance portal and it said the claim was denied because it was submitted after the filing limit. I reached out to my insurnace provider and they confirmed that billing dropped the ball and I am not responsible for this payment. I have been fighting with the office for nearly a month for a refund. They are claiming I gave them the "incorrect information", which was the reason for a delayed billing. This is simply a lie, period. I gave them my insurance cards at the initial time of service AND I was in the office for an out-of-pocket skin treatment only 4 months ago, at which time they never mentioned a balance or incorrect insurance information -- proof that billing still hadn't bothered doing anything with my August 2023 appointment. Their billing department completely dropped the ball and they are making it the patient's responsibility AND lying about what happened. What a complete disappointment. I'm looking forward to finding a provider that treats their patients with respect and ethics. read more

I have been going to Alta Vista Dermatology for 15 years. I've always saw Jessica. However she is no longer there. Today Dr. Szabo surgically removed a squamous cell cancer from my arm. Since I had TNR 6 months ago she prescribed an antibiotic so as not to risk getting infection in the knee as well as the arm. I went to pick up the antibiotic and it had not been called in. The pharmacist indicated I should get on this antibiotic ASAP. He recommended me calling their on call person until I reached someone. I have been calling and leaving a message every 15 minutes for the past two hours. I have yet had anyone answer. Needless to say I am not a happy patient and am questioning their professionalism. read more

Today I called because I've had a painful ingrown hair on my neck for a few weeks and was shocked to hear that they could see me in an hour! I hopped in the car and saw the PA, Joseph. I had been a patient here for years, and while I had concerns about some of my doctor's visits (will get to that later), the tipping point was a recent bill I received. I knew that I would no longer have insurance as of a certain date, so I had scheduled my yearly exam before then and told the staff that I would not have insurance after this date, so I would like to address any concerns now. My doctor ended up prescribing me a medication, advised me of possible side effects, and said that she would like to circle back to ensure that it was working for me. We also scheduled another procedure for a few weeks later. During that visit, I let them know that I wasn't experiencing any side effects with the prescription, and it seemed to be working fine. When I went to get my prescription refilled a couple months later, I was told by the pharmacy that the doctor would not refill it, and that I needed to speak to the doctor. I called the office to inquire, and they said that before the doctor continued the prescription, I needed to speak to her. I asked if I could talk to her over the phone, and I was told I would need to schedule an appointment. I asked if we could schedule something to be done over the phone, as I didn't think an in-person appointment was necessary and I had already told them I wasn't having any side effects. They said that this could be scheduled via tele-health. On the day of our scheduled call, I waited 20 minutes past the scheduled time before anyone got on to speak to me. The doctor finally got in and we spoke for a maximum of 8 minutes. I received a bill a month later for $123. When I spoke to the billing department to try to understand why an 8 minute Zoom conversation regarding an existing prescription had cost me $123, I was told "that's just the way it is" and if I didn't pay it, I would "be sent to collections." I asked for an itemized bill, as this seemed outrageous, and I thought it must be an error in billing. The woman at the billing department said that she couldn't email me that but could send it through the mail. A week later, I still hadn't received the bill, and I received another phone call from the billing department asking me why I hadn't paid the bill. I told them when I talked to them last week, I had requested an itemized bill which I hadn't yet received. They admitted they never sent it, and a few minutes later an itemized bill was emailed to me. (After I was originally told they couldn't do this.) Reviewing the bill, I noticed that I was charged for an in-person office visit that was 45 minutes - 1 hour. When I contacted the billing department to let them know that there was an error in how this was coded, they were unwilling to change it. I was basically harassed regarding this bill with phone calls and letters, until I eventually felt I had to pay as I don't want to "be sent to collections." As for the actual doctor's visits: I had been going to this doctor for years, had several procedures performed, and during one of my recent visits, the doctor said, "Nice to meet you," upon entering the room. I understand they have a lot of patients and see a lot of people, but she couldn't even bother to look at my chart beforehand? When I had concerns about how I was healing after a procedure, I felt like I was treated as an inconvenience. I'll be finding a new dermatologist. read more

I switched to a different dermatology practice. Very disappointed... I had left a voicemail in the medical assistants line on Monday morning asking for a refill for a face cream I use for melasma explaining I was almost out and I would be leaving to go out of town on Thursday for 2 weeks. I got a call back Tuesday morning and the M.A. who said not to worry and she would check with the provider. Tuesday afternoon I received a voice message that said I needed to be seen for my one year visit before they could refill and could I come in the next morning... but I am a nurse who works at an acute step-down unit and I was scheduled to work that day and then I was flying out that day for 2 weeks. I was told "no, You would have to come in to be seen." I was happy to be seen as soon as I came back from out of town, but the practice refused and insisted I had to come in either that Wednesday or Thursday and that I had been told at my appt (A YEAR AGO!) that I had to be seen in a year. They did not send a reminder.... no grace period... no empathy... Having to struggle with melasma has been very difficult, and just a little empathy to ensure continuity of care would have meant a lot... ... So I cancelled my appointment with them .... and am now scheduled with a different dermatology practice... read more

I have been very happy with Alta Vista the last 10 years. However, recently was taken back by several things. I walked in to get a report and the receptionist was " chomping" on a piece of candy. She continued to chomp and take another bite while I was standing there She did excuse herself when she almost choked.. I went back several days later and the same receptionist had her foot on the chair with her leg up. But the most disturbing thing was when a PA walked in and proceeded to tell me my dermatologist had moved and she would be my new dermatologist. I was in shock. No letter, no introduction, nothing. I will be looking for a new dermatologist. read more

Thought they were good people. I was wrong. Had an appointment, and was recommended a drug. Without a call back from the doc after my lab work, I got a call from a drug rep! So, not only had I not hear back from the doctor about my lab results, (I had to get them myself from the lab company) but they sold my name, phone #, and oh yeah, my diagnosis to a drug company. I called 8 times over the course of the day - no one every answered, so I finally drove over there. 2 receptionists, neither was busy so unsure why the phones were unanswered. I obtained copies of the HIPAA forms and in no way did I give permission for giving my private health info to a 3rd party. So, if you want to be harassed by a drug company and then ignored by your doc, go ahead and give these people your information. If you'd like to be treated like a human and not $$$, then move along. read more

I have been using this practice for a number of years and I have always felt comfortable with the level of care and the providers who are genuinely nice ladies and obviously care about their patients. My complaint with this company is the extreme difficulty in getting a prescription refill authorized. Time after time I have called in for the renewal of something that is relatively basic like a topical cream and the pharmacy has submitted 3 to 4 request which have gone unrespondef to. I have to call and beg someone by voicemail to respond to it and eventually it gets refilled, but it shouldn't have to be this hard. Whoever is in charge of that segment of the business needs to take another look at it because based on other comments, I've seen here, you are pissing off your patients. read more

I visited Alta Vista Dermatology for my hair PRP and was extremely unhappy with the procedure. I have consulted multiple dermatologists and med spas in both Denver, Boulder areas as I am new to the area and chose to proceed with Alta Vista based on their reviews online and initial consultation. I was planning to sign up for their 3 or 6 session package and was terrified with the first procedure and have decided not to go back. The procedure did not involve usage of any local anesthetic cream or cold air or anything to minimize or address the pain from scalp injections. I was given a ball to squeeze and a vibrator to distract but nothing to actually address the pain. What's disappointing is - when I asked them for a numbing cream, they said it's late and can't do it in this appointment. So they did 4 injections on my scalp with roughly 30-40 pokes which hurt extremely and was crying literally throughout and after the procedure in pain. They give me an ice pack at the end and left the room for another appointment, leaving me in pain by myself. I walked out in a great amount of emotional distress, pain, shock and embarrassment. I met with their executive director in tears to let him about know my experience and the pain I went through. He listened to my feedback and am really hoping they don't put through anyone else through this pain again. Anyone considering PRP anywhere - please make sure to ask for local anesthesia, it can be extremely painful than it needs to be. read more

CVS tried calling their offices multiple times along with fax's, no respons. I was seen here for the last few years for basic skin checks and specialty needs for eczema. Although the front desk has great manners and kind at the front, I did not feel that same warmth when being seen by my provider. Specifically, I felt that Dr. Joseph Cari was very undermining when speaking with me, definitely could work on his bedside manner. It was a weird and uncomfortable conversation/meeting every time I met with him. Otherwise, Krissy Stange was very approachable and calming. Herself and the nurses are very kind. read more

My daughter had the MiraDry procedure with this group. It worked to an extent. The woman doing the procedure told us she would discount the second procedure should she need a second appointment. We scheduled the second appointment and I took half day off of work. My daughter sat in the chair and received 45 minutes of lidocaine in her armpits. All delivered via needles. Needles, in the armpits, for 45 minutes and then the machine didn't work. They apologized profusely, told us to make an another appointment so they could get the machine fixed. Followed up and they would not discount this procedure for her. I've been in the medical field for decades and haven't seen this kind of treatment. They have the power to discount whatever they choose. Practice manager would not even speak to me. I could only communicate via receptionist. Profit over patients here. RUN. Last thing a mother wants to watch is 45 minutes of armpit injections into their child with zero results. Zero compassion. Unbelievable. read more

Two of my daughters and I have been seen at Alta Vista. Each one of us has experienced the majority of the receptionists to be sassy and annoyed most of the time. Each of us seen one particular dermatologist there and I would not describe her as having the best beside manner. I was seen for a general skin cancer check and my daughters were seen for acne. One of my daughters said her reaction to her acne photos were "Ooooh that's not good" (and not in a a sympathetic, compassionate manner). It made her feel bad and she's not even very sensitive. The staff we've encountered give off an air of superiority that can be felt when you walk into the office...not a good vibe. Today I sent my 15 yr old daughter with her older sister, (who drove her) to her annual check up so she could get a prescription refill for her acne. Both her Dad and I were working. The office never told me a parent had to be with her and when they arrived (15 mins early) to the appointment, Lisa, the receptionist was rude and annoyed I wasn't there. My daughter called me and said I was supposed to be there. I asked if I could pay the copay with a credit card over the phone (I have done that before with them) and if the paper work could be filled out online. Lisa (the receptionist) was very agitated and clearly did not want to do that, even though it was an option. She finally sent the paperwork over email (it took 15 mins to come through). By the time I get it, it is paperwork that needs to be printed out, filled out and scanned back. And...I'm trying to work and our printer is on the fritz! All in all, my husband was about ten mins from their office, so he had to drive over, fill out paperwork and pay. When I talked to the receptionist, Lisa, I told her if the office policy requires minors to be accompanied by a parent then they need communicate that clearly ahead of the appointment. And...send the paperwork ahead of time! I told Lisa I had sent my teen kids to many medical appointments by themselves and never had issues (dental appointments, fillings, annual physicals, vaccines, etc). She seemed to imply I was a bad parent for not accompanying them...and kept saying "well that's our policy." Well fine! Communicate that ahead of time then and don't be rude to my daughters! By the time my husband came, paid and filled out the forms (all of which could have been done online btw) my daughters had been there almost 40 mins and when she was called back to the appointment, she was seen for less than 5 mins. All that struggle, for a 3 min appointment, that you would think was a briefing on my daughter having open heart surgery, by the way Lisa acted. I haven't experienced all the dermatologists there, but for what they get paid, they should take the time to hire friendly, warm, professional and compassionate receptionists. We will never go back and I would never recommend. read more

I've been treated by AV (PA Cara and Dr. Saralta) for over 10 years for AK. They are always thorough. I've had a variety of treatments for AK on my head - she seem to work ... there not so much in terms of the results I can see). However, the staff is always thorough and followup is conducted very well. Although I never thought I'd be seeing dermatologists for this many years (and essentially for the rest of my life) I'm very pleased with their practice. My wife is also a patient and has had the same results. read more

Unfortunately, Alta Vista did not take my insurance. But I wanted to do a shout out to Jessica W. at the front desk. I mistakenly went to the wrong dermatologist for a surgical procedure. Not knowing I was at the wrong place, I became very emotional when told my surgery had been canceled. Jessica was extremely compassionate, professional and courteous even though I was an emotional mess. Later, I left a message apologizing and she graciously returned my call and was extremely sweet about the mix up. When this Dr and clinic was referred to me by a friend I thought certain based on her advice that the rumors I'd heard that all dermatologists were money grubbing snake oil salesmen would finally be put to rest but alas, this place only confirmed the theory. I was seeking advice on restoring my skin and removing scar tissue following a botched Mohs surgery (another fraud I will NEVER succumb to again) and the recommendation was light therapy, at a cost of $1,215...the results were extremely minimal and in no way resembled the many pictures I was shown to convince me to proceed. There was a SLIGHT temporary reduction in the appearance of capillaries surrounding the scar but other than that one would not know I had anything done whatsoever. In addition, I saw an individual whose assistant claimed from the moment she walked in that examiner (not a doctor) could detect skin cancer from space. She very painfully biopsied two areas and I never received so much as a phone call with the results which I was told I would receive regardless of whether the results were positive or negative for cancer cells. These people are epic scammers; biopsies and skin (body) exams is how they make their main bank, and then the other crap is just gravy. It is 1000% all about the money in the dermatology industry, NOT about curing skin cancer (which they caused) and I have since done a boatload of research and learned how to ensure my skin is cancer free for life so these crooks can all go jump in a mud bath somewhere! They will NEVER see me again! read more
