My mom is my source of all things gardening, and she told me to go to Story's. I looked up the website (which is great) to see what they had in stock. Under "fruiting plants" in nursery stock, I found what was basically a comprehensive list of all the fruit I could think of...so we just decided to head over and take our chances. When we arrived and walked around a bit, I realized that they actually HAVE pretty much everything on that comprehensive list, because this place is massive and awesome. I don't think I can possibly list all the things they've got, but I feel pretty confident saying that their selection is better than anything you might find in the surrounding area: Trees, shrubs, evergreens, bushes, perennials, herbs, succulents, conifers, flowers, vegetables, vines...you want plants, they've got the plants. They've also got all the garden supplies you need...plant food, fertilizer, seeds, pesticides, tools, a gorgeous selection of pots, and hooks, and garden gnomes, and more. I didn't know I needed netting to keep the birds from eating my blueberries, but they did, and they've got the netting you need. I should note that my mom frowns on netting your berries, as she believes we need to share with the birds...but she's just a much better person than I am.

Potting Soil A staff worker packed my car with plants and four bags of potting soil. There was a bee on a Marigold flower, and I asked him to get it to fly away. He did. The large Greenhouses were stocked with blooming healthy annuals and perennials. It was a sea of beautiful floral colors. One of the three Greenhouses had vegetable plants and herbs. They did not have Italian Flat Leaf Parsley, so I will look for it elsewhere. Checkout was organized and efficient. There were three checkout stations!

They have as wide a variety of plants, trees, and gardening supplies as other nurseries in the region, but perhaps the plants are not getting as close attention as at some others, Nisky Faddegon's, which I realise is more an exception, not the norm (I've seen plants in worse conditions at Lowe's and Home Depot). It may also be that this is past the peak buying season, but the wilting leaves and perished stalks always manage to tug at my heartstrings. They had just what we were looking for: arbricola green! We grabbed two of the healthier looking. There was a variegated variety which was denser than what we got. Their indoor plant selection is still one of the best around here, and the staff there have always been friendly. I hope the locals continue to support Hewitt's and they stay open for many more decades.

My wife and I decided that for our first Christmas in our new house we would get a real tree. (We…read morehave for years used a cheap artificial tree from Walmart). Without really knowing what we were getting into, we followed a friend's recommendation to this place. We went the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it was very busy. Online articles say that this is the busiest weekend for buying real trees, and if you wait too long you may get stuck with an ugly tree. When we arrived around 10:20, it was plenty busy. We rode a hay wagon up the hill to an area covered with trees, were handed saws to cut them down, and let loose. Many trees have colored tags which correspond to a sheet of paper they give you listing prices (purple trees cost X, yellow tags cost Y, etc.) Untagged trees are available for purchase but they recommend you ask someone who works there first for a price quote before cutting it down to avoid sticker shock. My wife left the area where the others were and hiked into the back portion to find the "perfect tree." She found one that was a bit too tall for our house, but we had to have it. We asked for a quote and it was well within our budget. Unfortunately, there was only one person doing quotes so we waited literally 20-30 minutes before the guy came and found us in the back. Had we selected a pre-tagged tree, it would have gone much quicker. Then, I cut it down and he loaded it onto the wagon, and back we went. They only accept cash or checks, and they won't help you mount it on the car (for insurance reasons we were told) though they do have plenty of twine. I don't think they bale the trees either, at least I didn't see it available. They have a small store in the barn with cocoa and such, though after a morning of cold and rain I was in no mood to investigate. We secured the tree to the car and headed home. The place was cute and had lots of nice trees. Ours ended up being $48, which seemed fair. It might be more than one from a big box store, but we were paying for the experience of searching it out, cutting it, and bringing it home. As tree farms go, this was a much nicer than the one we went to in the past and I would recommend the place.

This employee continued to yell at me over the phone and then asked me if I went to Stewart's for milk did I walk out the door without paying for it. I can't imagine that this company treats all of it's customers with such rude and disrespectful behavior because they certainly would not still be in business if they did. DO NOT spend your hard earned dollars at a business that would treat their customers this way!

We have a far drive so he made sure to double up tying our tree on the roof of our car. It wasn't too crowded or overwhelming like some of the other places. Everyone was wearing masks, too.
