Been purchasing all of our plants and shrubbery for more than 15 years and have family traveling from Saratoga for their plants. Love their variety and usually high quality plants. But this year I was very disappointed. Bought 2 large hanging plants (about 3:30 on a Saturday) and 2 days later on Monday the flowers were wilted and shriveled. I brought it back to Gade around 2pm Monday that's less than 48hrs. The staff was very pleasant and took the time to look at it. But the explanation given was I must have let it dry out and to remove the dead flowers and it would bounce back. I don't know how that's possible as it was well water when I brought it home and the it rained the entirety of the next day. I had bought 2 baskets of the same flowers and the other was perfectly fine. Just very disappointing because my daughter's prom is in 4 days and I had bought these for the pictures. Now I need to go to another garden center tomorrow for a replacement. read more

This was a pleasant surprise! Beautiful location. Friendly employees. A great selection of regional small business goods in addition to Gade Farm's own Local vegetables, all at a good price. I appreciate that they notate which veggies and fruits are from the farm as well as the ones that are from other locations. I went to get a couple things and left with a lot of colorful veggies. All of the produce looks really nice and fresh. I also saw the greenhouse, and it was beautiful and full of house plants as well as garden varietals. Looking ahead to next visit! read more

Since I didn't have time post-move to start my own plants this year, I went looking to buy some at local nurseries. At first I was favorably impressed by Gade Farm. Their selection of garden plants is not deep but it is broad enough to include lesser known types such as bicolor and asian eggplant. The staff seem friendly and fairly knowledgeable. But they had the place set up like a maze. They didn't want me to go out the door I came in. I get it, some people steal. But I did not enjoy having to run an obstacle course just to get around. That's really a minor annoyance but still. Then I noticed the vegetable plants I saw didn't look that great - they were weak and spindly, most obvious on the tomato plants. Well I've dealt with leggy plants before so I got incautious and went ahead and bought them anyway, along with some bedding plants (flowers). Spent over $100 there thinking I was done with plant selection for the season. I put everything under lights at home (its been about a week or 10 days) and soon started seeing problems with the veggie plants. Leaves were yellowing and dropping off. I examined the plants as well as my aged eyes could manage and didn't see anything so I thought maybe too much light and turned the timer down. A couple of days later (today) doing my morning exam I found the problem. Every single veggie plant I brought home was infested with aphids. No wonder they had been looking sickly! I'm sure the aphids are on everything now. Now I have to treat plants for pests before I can even get them in the ground. read more

When I moved to Albany, I knew one shopping destination I would really miss would be Adams Fairacre Farms. That void is pretty well filled at Gade Farm. It's nowhere near as large, but it's just as nice and twice as friendly. There's enough meat, dairy, and produce to keep me satisfied for basic grocery shopping, and double bonus points for having fresh pies from Mourningkill Farm and meats and cheeses from Oscar's Smoke House. The garden center has a decent variety of plants and garden items, plus some interesting plants and other products I'd not found elsewhere. I of course enrolled in the rewards program immediately. I look forward to coming here frequently. read more

Every year for the last 11 years we have purchased our Christmas tree here. We love to shop around the inside of the store for baked treats, cheese and holiday decor while we are there. But the HIGHLIGHT of my entire holiday season is getting a custom decorated wreath at Gade. Every year Amy has made our wreath and she always does a lovely job. Gade has several long tables with decorations. And several sizes of wreaths. You just select your wreath (outside) and then go browse the decorations. I recommend starting by selecting a ribbon and then you can coordinate the other items to go with that. Amy or one of the other employees can arrange everything for you so it looks perfect. And they make lovely recommendations too. They also have a suite of pre-decorated wreaths to chose from too. read more

After living in the area for 10 yrs I just discovered Gade Farm last month! They a large variety of fresh produce and their tomatoes are the best I've had in years. Prices are reasonable, staff always friendly and helpful. Won't be going anywhere else for my tomatoes. Tried their corn and beets this year. The corn is probably the best I've ever had! Nice and tender, freshly picked daily. Slightly higher than the local markets, but well worth the price difference.The fresh beets are easy to prepare and freeze for the winter. For years we've been going here and tolerating high prices in order to buy local. This year we went to buy pumpkins and we foolishly bought 2 for $37!!! Our mistake for paying that much but we never thought they would gouge customers like that even in the recession we're in. We went to carve the pumpkins and one was rotten inside. Finally went to Hannaford where they were selling beautiful large pumpkins for 2 for $10. A no brainer. We are done with Gade.... read more

Gade Farm is my go-to garden store/nursery. Whether I'm looking for sunflowers for the garden or different potting soil, Gade Farm has everything I could ever want. There is a farm store attached with some local produce for sale as well as a small bakery. Their cider doughnuts are the smallest I've come across and, honestly, it's worth it to keep driving to Indian Ladder. That said, I'm always happy with the produce I find there and the staff is always cheerful and pleasant. Plus, there are some funny Bigfoot statues lurking in the nursery...and how many garden stores can say that? read more

I have only been here once, but was pleased with what I found. We were out looking for a local tree farm to cut down our own tree, but they were closed and saw Gade Farm selling trees and popped in. While we weren't looking for anything but a tree, we discovered they had a nice selection of cheese, meats, fruit, veggies, etc. We browsed and ended up with some cheese and dip for a snack after shopping. The staff was friendly and helpful. They were happy to help direct us around the store and the people outside were happy to help move some of the Christmas trees and let us look at others. If we don't cut down, I'd definitely consider this place again. And I'd like to come back in the spring/summer and see their other offerings. Also, bonus for having some fun things in the shop - like a giant yeti family! read more

As part of our desire to try cider donuts in new locations, we thought a nice sunny Fall day called out for a drive to the Gade Farm since their donuts were included on a recent "4th annual tour de donut" conducted by the FUSSYlittleBLOG. We'd driven by this place many times over the years, especially on the way to Candy Kraft, but we never stopped and were not aware that they made cider donuts. These donuts were the smallest cider donuts I'd ever come across. They were also the heaviest and densest. There was some crustiness to the outside with a reasonable amount of granular sugar, but not a lot of apple cider flavor. There was also a noticeable flavor of oil from the frying. Bottom line, while this might be the most convenient place for us to drive to have cider donuts, I'll continue to pass them by even when heading to Candy Kraft for my Xmas candy. There are numerous other things to buy here that are grown on their own farm, or produced in New York State, e.g., meats and breads. At this time of year there is also a maze for adults and kids. Everything other than the donuts earned the 3rd star. read more

I had written a less-than-positive review back in December due to the overall rudeness of the staff at the time. However, we were back the other day and things certainly had changed! They were even busier than they had been in December, but everyone on staff, including the high-schoolers, were efficient and extremely friendly! The variety of annuals and perennials was incredible. More of a rustic farm stop with garden center. They carry a variety of meats and cheeses in addition to the fruits and vegetables. The produce is quite reasonably priced and very fresh. Our of all the produce we've tried I don't think we've had anything bad. It's a nice grocery stop to pick up everything you'd need for dinner from local producers. Skip the apples donuts and be sure to try some cookies or danishes. Swing around to the other side to pick up some flowers and yard ornaments to compliment the season. read more

For several years now we've been coming to Gade Farm to get our Christmas tree. They have a good variety of beautiful, healthy looking trees, and the prices range by variety/size. I am happy to come here, spend $35-40 on a tree, and support local business rather than go to Home Depot to save a few bucks. Their customer service is excellent, too! I used to go here as a child with my grandparents (R.I.P.). They always have lots of fresh veggies and homemade baked goods. It's a nice change from chain supermarkets, as I prefer to spend my money at locally owned businesses. I agree with the previous reviewer as I would also like to see a greater selection of organic produce. Best selection of perennials I could find in the area. They lose one star b/c the the plants in the greenhouse are packed a little too close together and get kinda llanky as a result. BUT, they are still better selection and quality than I've seen elsewhere. Great little farm store too. Homemade cider donuts were delicious. read more
