The edible was what I was there for: we spent ages deciding between different varieties of (very healthy) cucumber starts and patio tomatoes. Even if you don't have any pressing need for petunias, the greenhouses are a really nice environment for wandering around and smelling the flowers for a while.

The greeting was pretty much a list of warnings and rules, not a "welcome" or "thanks for trying us." We brought a gas chainsaw, which wasn't mentioned in the posted policies, but were stopped and told they only allow electric saws because "less liability." (It's still a chainsaw cutting a small trunk... but okay.) The conversation had a bit of attitude on both sides, not going to lie. We used the hand saws they provide, wandered the field with zero guidance, and most trees were under 6 ft with big gaps. Not worth $75 just to check a box and call it a tree. When we came back to look at precuts, we overheard staff talking about us -- not exactly the holiday spirit. We made sure they knew we heard them, wished them a Merry Christmas, and headed out. Overall: Not friendly, not organized, trees weren't great, and the experience wasn't worth the price. Lesson learned: sometimes the place you've gone for years is worth the extra drive.

There is a nice selection of both hanging plants and flowers ready to be transplanted into your garden. I think I saw a small number of vegetable plants for sale, but most of the plants were flowers. Ultimately we've got three trees from Bob's, and even though two of the trees had issues, the staff have been understanding and reasonable in working with us for a resolution. Bob's has a big stock and variety of trees and plants of various sizes, and the tranquil location makes for a pleasant day trip for a walk amongst potted plants and dug-up trees ready to go. Their brochure is helpful for looking up and browsing an updated selection of available trees for listed prices, and staff have been consistently friendly and helpful, and not surprisingly, very knowledgeable. I would recommend Bob's Trees without hesitation, and I hope they stay open and successful for a very long time.

Was there at least 8 to 10 minutes with no offer of help and they all just kept talking to each other. Approached front and stood there for two or more minutes and still no acknowledgement that I might need help. When I was leaving the store the sales clerk said "have a nice day". I said "wear a mask". I will never go in there again. The place is not safe and the clerk is not helpful.

Nurseries and gardens help me relive that realisation. We've been to this Hewitt's a number of times, and on this latest visit, made very similar observations. They have as wide a variety of plants, trees, and gardening supplies as other nurseries in the region, but perhaps the plants are not getting as close attention as at some others, Nisky Faddegon's, which I realise is more an exception, not the norm (I've seen plants in worse conditions at Lowe's and Home Depot). It may also be that this is past the peak buying season, but the wilting leaves and perished stalks always manage to tug at my heartstrings. They had just what we were looking for: arbricola green! We grabbed two of the healthier looking. There was a variegated variety which was denser than what we got. Their indoor plant selection is still one of the best around here, and the staff there have always been friendly. I hope the locals continue to support Hewitt's and they stay open for many more decades.
