I had a very disappointing experience at this salon. I scheduled a balayage and face-framing layers with Julianna two months in advance after a consultation where I showed inspiration photos and was assured my desired results were achievable. On the day of my appointment, we reviewed the plan again and I was told it would take about 4-5 hours. Instead, the service took 7 hours and extended past closing time. The haircut I requested was never completed. only a minimal trim was done. From the front, my hair looked similar to how it did before the appointment, but I wasn't shown the back before leaving. Once I got home, I realized the results were far from what I had requested and not properly blended AT ALL. The balayage was not done, the color was the same tone I had walked in there with originally, and the haircut was never completed. I contacted the salon the next day, and they agreed to fix it. However, communication throughout the process was very poor. Each time I called, staff seemed unaware of my situation and attempted to schedule me for times that conflicted with arrangements already discussed. Because my hair was already compromised, I repeatedly requested a different stylist who specialized in color correction. Despite asking multiple times, they initially kept trying to assign me to the same stylist. After 3-4 requests, I was finally assigned someone else. They assigned me to Kat and I was told she would contact me on a specific day to schedule, but she did not. When she eventually reached out later than promised, she said she would move another client to fit me in and follow up to confirm; however, she never did. I waited a full week for the appointment she had mentioned and ultimately had to call the salon myself. Throughout this entire time, I did not feel comfortable wearing my hair out due to how bad the results were, but I remained patient because they had agreed to fix it. I was also repeatedly asked to adjust my schedule or call off work to come in on their availability for their mistake, despite clearly explaining multiple times that my original appointment was booked on my day off and I needed the same accommodation. At the end of my initial visit, I paid $450 including tip for results that were not what was discussed. I also tipped at the time of service, based on their assurances that any issues would be taken care of and corrected. After about three weeks of trying to resolve the situation, I was only refunded for the service which was $380, not the tip. By that point, I had to go elsewhere and pay significantly more for a full color correction. something this salon was responsible for plus also pay and tip another stylist. While the staff was polite, the lack of communication, failure to follow through, and overall handling of the situation made this a very frustrating and disappointing experience. I would not return or recommend this salon based on my experience. read more

I've been going to Alter Ego for years for my hair and now they have Jordan to provide mani and pedi services. Jordan gave me a pedi service like I've never had and HIGHLY recommend her and Alter Ego for the most relaxing, stress reducing and wonderful experience. It starts by entering a room away from the salon where you are cut off from the hubbub of the salon. There is soft relaxing music and she offers you an eye mask and noise canceling headphones for an added experience. The gravity chair is so comfortable and with the dimmed lights and atmosphere, I immediately melted into the chair. Jordan not only gives you the pedicure but she also provides a hot stone massage and I must say, hot stones between the toes was AMAZING!! During the 2 hour process, I had to force myself to wake up so that I wouldn't start snoring....LOL Jordan gives an aura of kindness and gentleness plus the best pedi I have ever had. I moved to Frederick late summer 2021 and was dreading the search for a new hair stylist. I am extremely particular in what I look for, which no doubt makes things a little bit more complicated. After searching reviews on various social media platforms, I stumbled upon this salon and the reviews (specifically for Carlos) left me very intrigued and optimistic. I've interacted with multiple staff members there and they're all so kind and very professional. But I am absolutely *obsessed* with Carlos!! When I tell you he KILLED my hair, I mean it in the BEST possible way!! He's an incredibly talented artist - one of the best I've ever met, a true MASTER of his craft. He'd done a natural balayage on me last fall but I wanted to brighten things up for spring. I showed him my inspo and he did NOT disappoint in his execution & delivery!! Not to mention he's the best hype-man and a literal earth angel.. I've had a rough couple of months, but I left his chair with a full heart and feeling like a bombshell. I'm surprised that I'm the first one to write a review on here-this is quite a popular salon and I know it has many happy customers. With that said, it makes me kind of sad to write a negative review of this place. I went in looking for a change as well as a new stylist. As my stylist was cutting my hair, I had pointed out my very obvious cowlick and she responded that she noticed it. Well, for some reason, she managed to give me a cut that made the cowlick worse! I don't know how she did it, and I've never had this happen before, but for about 2 weeks after my appointment I could not get the thing to go down, no matter how I styled my hair. I seriously hated it and got so frustrated! The other thing that turned me off was when she told me how no matter what, blond hair requires "major upkeep" after I told her that I wanted minimal upkeep...I get that being a blond does require some work, but I know there are ways to keep that down! I was really disappointed because I had heard great things about this place and I really am not that picky when it comes to my hair! read more

I have androgenic alopecia. I finally decided to take the plunge and wear hair (a hair piece). Erin was recommended to me by Cece at Cheryl's Health Boutique (a wig shop). Erin took the time to show me how to style my piece, made sure I was comfortable with the style and cut (ESPECIALLY before she started cutting- which I really appreciated), and assured me that the hair piece looked natural and that it looked good (which my husband confirmed as soon as he saw me :D). Erin spent over an hour with me at my first visit- she really took the time to understand my concerns/fears, handled my expensive hair piece (and my hair!) with the utmost care, and made sure I was absolutely happy with the style and cut before I left the salon. I LOVE my hair piece/hair now and couldn't be happier! I recently returned for a trim- again, Erin did her magic and trimmed my bio hair to seamlessly match the hair piece. I'm so glad to have found her and this salon! Not only is Erin amazing, the other stylists seem to be talented as well! One of the most friendly and caring salons I've been in. The owner instills an atmosphere of fun yet is very professional. I also love the salon gives back often to the community thru various campaigns. My favorite stylist is Hannah, who I've been going to for a couple of years. She rocks! She cares about you and your hair and works with you to get the style and color you want. If it's a tricky color change it will take some time, I know some people expect major transformations to happen quickly and that's not possible. Love that they now have online booking too.
