I almost cried a few times today looking in the mirror. My balayage (which I got only 3 days ago) makes my hair look like I have tiger stripes. It just looks chunky and not blended. It looks even worse when I try to pull my hair back or move it in any way. If my hair was toned at all, I cannot tell. Also, I was told that she would start longer and go shorter if I wanted for my face framing pieces, but I would've preferred another check in point regarding them because they ended up longer than I would've liked. I regret spending $328 on a color and cut here. The staff were very nice but the result was not worth it and I need to figure out how to fix this now. read more

For this DC girl who made the trip to the charming town of Frederick for my Balayage and cut, Six East is definitely the nicest salon I've been to with precision and genuine thought put into every last detail. This is the best salon I have ever encountered. Mary was my stylist. She asked so many questions about my hair and what I wanted. I have never felt so heard at a salon. There was no rushing. Mary did an awesome job cutting and styling my hair. She recommended products and showed me how to apply them. This was a great experience right down to the massaging shampoo chair and warm towels. The reception staff is kind, courteous, and professional. They all wear masks (yours is optional) and have contactless payment options. Before you worry that it's too expensive with all of that pampering, it's not. They are reasonably priced and do not permit tipping. Parking is super easy at the Church Street garage directly across the street. If you're looking for a new salon, this is it. read more

I can't say enough great things about Six East Salon. Upon entry, it's much like walking into a warm, cozy home with friends you've known for years. The staff is professional, friendly, but most of all extremely knowledgeable. It's evident that the ladies love what they do. Listening to the customer is key and their customers come first! A few unique ideas they've incorporated into the business include the customer's flexibility to change stylists if one so chooses. No questions asked, no offense taken. Secondly, tipping is not permitted. Previously I drove from Maryland to Virginia for hair appointments where the haircuts alone were above and beyond Six East Salon's prices. At times it's easier to stick with what's familiar to us and I believe hair stylists fall into that category, even if you're not satisfied with the results. Let's face it, we women are very particular about our hair. I am so happy I took a chance with Six East Salon. my friend went to get her hair done recently so i tagged along, the atmosphere was absolutely horrible. the owner, roxanne, was verbally degrading to some of her employees which isn't a good look for an owner. the hair was fine, but considering the owners personality, i wouldn't want to be giving them any of my money. especially considering how high the cost of the service is without being able to tip the stylists. they better be getting paid 40+ an hour to put up with the horrible management. read more

I stumbled upon Six East because I work downtown and wanted a place that was an easy walk at the end of the workday. It's in a very unique old building and the salon part is in an old alleyway. When you get your hair washed you can look up to the original balcony and home windows which is kind of neat. As mentioned in other reviews, when you are a newbie they give you a tour and show you all the neat things about the home. At first I was like, this is weird, I just want my hair done. But, I think it's a good service for the salon to get to know their customers and show them around. Everyone is really kind and welcoming. I was a bit concerned at first about paying $60 (but no tips!) for my hair. I'm growing out a pixie cut and usually people are done in 15-20 minutes on my hair. However, my stylist, Beth was amazing! She really had an attention to detail and was creative. She spent close to an hour on my hair and I walked out in LOVE with my new cut. I've been back to her for highlights and was really impressed with the natural look she gave me. My facial was long over due and very needed. It was relaxing and I left so refreshed. I'll be back again for a longer one in a few weeks. I appreciated Morgan knowledge on how to properly care for skin and what she recommended for my facial needs. read more

I then recieve a hair cut which was just cut straight across with no layerings or anything . It was a hair chop I could have done at home . Definitely would not recommend. I had a nice haircut here, once. Always wanted to get my color done here but my friend worked at a prestigious salon and I couldn't resist that discount. The opportunity came for me to try out their other salon services, though pricey, I figured it would be worth it. Wrong! The first stylist wasn't honest in what I could expect from my full highlights. If she had of warned me they would not be blonde, rather that they would be yellow, I wouldn't of gotten them. They were disgusting. I only do my hair once a year so it can't be "over processed." (Excuse they use when your hair doesn't turn out the color you expected) I've never had highlights turn out so bad, they always turn out light blonde. Not only that, but they work on multiple clients at once so you don't have their full attention, which is worrisome, especially for the price! The salon assistant was very rough too, and aggressively brushed through my just processed thick coarse tangled hair with a paddle brush, yanking my head back and pulling hairs out unnecessarily. I contacted the salon after wearing a hat all weekend to cover up the ugly mess, and Roxanne agreed to help me. Regretfully, it didn't work out. She was supposed to put my original color "low lights" in to balance it out, and then tone the yellow highlights. The salon assistant was told to just rinse my hair out with a specific product, she shampooed and conditioned it instead. I heard Roxanne tell her "I told you to use __________!! It should be fine just go back and add it now." I heard the assistant apologize to her. Of course at this point I'm like, "greeaattt...." My lowlights turned out splotchy, almost leopard print, and she did NOT do the toner as she said she would. It looks like crap and of course I feel like crap too. I found another girl on here who had the same experience and she gave me a reference, maybe I'll try that once my hair recovers. This has honestly turned me off from coloring all together. Still had to leave the review though, if only I knew what I knew now, I never would have returned to six east! read more

Had my hair cut by Roxanne last night. I love it! I wanted a change and she gave me a chic, smart shorter cut that swirls and sways with the wind. It was not scary at all, like you would think going much shorter would be. I trusted Roxanne completely and am so glad that I did!! Had my nails done by Deborah and she helped me choose the syle of nails by actually testing the Polish options on my nails! I ended up getting exactly what I wanted and the best manicure I've ever seen. I got a french gel manicure and this I my first visit to the salon. I moved to the area 2 weeks ago and am getting married Saturday and took a leap of faith to get my nails for the event done here but it really paid off. read more

Ok. My first review of this establishment was great. However, on my second appointment my stylist that took care of me the first time was no longer there and no one bothered to call and let me know. They just put me w another stylist. Now, I want silver highlights but the girl kept telling me she couldn't process my dark hair and that she would just tone it. Whatever that means. When she was done I saw no color except slight steal blue on my bangs. Ok. She said they would lighten over time. A month later I went back what she said would turn silver turned blond. So, I told her again what I wanted. Showed her photos of what I wanted. Again, nothing. Except she was saying as she was checking the foils that the color was beautiful. I saw no color. But, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Went home and was really upset. I spent a lot of money for nothing. Nothing was done to my hair. I called. Explained how I felt and Roxann took the phone call and blasted me for not understanding their procedures and that I need to just trust the process. After all Kim Kardashian's sat for 17 hours to get her hair that way. I don't have long hair and what kind of analogy was that? I felt awful but said ok I'll wait and see. But I'm going away at the end of the month and I really want my hair to look like the photo I loved. In the meantime I went to someone a friend recommended who did my hair EXACTLY like I wanted! And it took 3 hours!! And the integrity of my hair was fine! I was so happy with this girl I told her what happened w Six East. She said she has heard that Roxanne has been known to do that. Wow! Great way to gain business! I'm a loyal customer also. Tsk tsk. I went there today to show her my hair and ask her why she yelled at me telling me she couldn't and wouldn't do this for me. That what they were doing was the proper way to do my color. Really? Why is that.? She just looked at me and said she is sorry that her salon wasn't the right fit for me. No explanation whatsoever as to why she treated me that way. Nor did she explain her reasoning. I told her in the future perhaps she might want to listen to her clients and offer a way to make it right. Not alienate and frustrate clients. Priding itself as a no tip salon this is perhaps the reason it doesn't work. As a person who loves to get facials this was one of the worst facial experiences I've ever had. There were so many things that went wrong I don't know where to start. It was supposed to be an hour long but between the tour of the salon, the explanations of the mural on the wall, the tour of the bathroom which she claimed was her "favorite part of the house" it was by no means an hour long. My tour guide/esthetician tried her best but the sales pitch was very impersonal and robotic. I've never had a facial where the products were stored in another location for starters. It took her at least 10-15 minutes to gather supplies while I waited in a cold room with Irish sounding music. When I first entered the room I couldn't hear what she was saying because the music was so loud so I requested she turn it down. After she returned with product the whole session felt a bit uncomfortable because no water was used and very little product. Truthfully the whole experience was a waste of time and not pleasurable at all. When I returned home my husband asked me what was all over my face. I then went to look in the mirror only to discover that part of the mask she used was still on my face and in my hair. It was so far from a good/decent experience it would take many changes to even consider going back. Needless to say I could never recommend this spa to anyone. read more

The staff here were really lovely. The ambiance is great. My cut, on the other hand was not $60 quality - I would give it 2 stars. I came in wanting a trim and was upfront about having aging extensions when making the appointment. The day of my appointment was pushed back because the stylist didn't feel well, which was inconvenient but nice of the salon to accommodate employees as such. When I arrived I was given a tour and taken back about 15 mins after my scheduled time. They stylist was friendly, but didn't give a ton of time/interest to what I was looking for. We settled on a trim up and cleaning up of layers. She was very gentle which was fine, but it didn't ensure the hair was laying correctly. After the cut my hair was about half dry and I was ushered to the front to pay and leave... Which surprised me as it was only about a half hour for the whole experience wash/cut/dry-ish. When I got home to style I noticed the layers were very blunt - like chopped - meaning I can't just leave the house it needs a curl every time. Later I noticed a piece about one inch longer than the rest just hanging out. I'd have gone back to have it fixed, but I wasn't confident in the particular stylist. Surprising given so many positive reviews. I understand she wasn't feeling well and dealing with extensions isn't particularly fun but if there's any lack of confidence there I'd rather have someone say they can't accommodate me than take my money and give a mediocre result. I'd try this salon for other services though. I also saw another woman finishing a great cut and style while I was there. read more

I really wanted to love this place. I live downtown and was searching for a spa I could walk to. I came for waxing services. Underarm, half leg, and bikini. While the wax was a wonderful high quality that my skin responded well to, the services took 2 full hours. Additionally, the bikini wax was not complete. I don't wear skimpy swim wear, and I still had hair showing in basic bikini bottoms. I was going on a Florida vacation so you can imagine the frustration considering I was about to live in a swim suit for the next week. I have never had someone that truly understood "Jill speak" when I ask for something or my hair. Love going here for pedicures, facials, waxing (never come out with red eyebrows) and candle body treatments. Debra is super nice, and I always come out relaxed. The pedicures last a long time. Love that it does not smell like a nail salon and that they don't push the products. No tipping is nice since you know the flat rate (cost is comparable when you add a tip. The only downside is that I wish they had 2 staff members so that I could get the services done at the same time as a guest. I had a total of 5 services here on Saturday and I was blown away by how welcoming and professional the staff was to me. I had a facial, manicure/pedicure, highlights with a cut, and a makeup application. Debra performed my facial and nail services. She was open, responsive, and gave me some wonderful tips on how to help my skin. I could tell that her main goal was to make me feel relaxed and at ease. She did a great job on my nails and I loved her overall energy. Ashley did my hair and I am so happy with it. She took the time to listen to what I wanted and allowed me to show her some pictures. I love the cut and the color is exactly what I wanted. She might look young, but her knowledge and dedication to her craft surpasses her age. She made me feel so comfortable. I trusted her opinions and not once did I doubt her abilities. She told me she has been doing hair for almost a decade! When she told me that I knew that I was in great hands. Madison applied my makeup and she was awesome. She took the time to talk to me about my skin and talk about my makeup options. I was grateful for her honesty, her tips, and her overall attitude. I left feeling like a million bucks. And even after all those services, I still have the best memories of the day because everyone was so sweet, they had smiles on their faces, and they all looked happy to be there. I had a nose, ears, and eyebrow waxing. They were very flexible at accomodating my short term request for an appt. Morgan the waxer was one of the best waxers I have used if not the best. The place is close to a parking garage. They have a no-tip policy which removes that part of the ackward check-out.
