A hidden gem in San Rafael. I had a pair of pants that needed altering in 24 hours. Armando said no problem and the job was done excellently. He is a REAL tailor in that he has made clothes in the past. Because of that he can look at your body and know exactly how to fit your garment perfectly. He spotted a dip in my left hip I had no idea I had and then proceeded to alter several pairs of pants. Frankly, I've never had a pair fit better - a perfect custom fit. He is a perfectionist and treats his clients with respect. He values his work and will do whatever it takes to make his customers happy even if it means that he can't fix a problem. For example, I had a just bought a pair of pants that was built for a woman with a larger bottom and he told me honestly that I wouldn't be happy with the result; that he just couldn't reshape the pants so that I'd like them. So you see, he'd rather tell the truth than make money. His pricing is very fair. He is an honest man. I personally saw him tell a lady who didn't have cash on her that she could take the clothes and drop the money by later. He does not price gouge. He is worth every penny. I brought in a dress I had altered in Santa Monica and had a problem with it. To help me out, he for free quickly ironed it out to try to get it straightened. He said that he could fix the problem but I should take it back to Santa Monica and see if my other tailor could do it at no charge. Most would have wanted to do the job right there but he was honorable. So I'm going to take all my clothes to him. I'd get to him soon as he has done so well for himself, he's thinking of retiring. So if you've got alterations to get done, get in there! Finally, as you head towards San Anselmo from San Rafael, get in the right hand lane and you'll see a giant pair of scissors (hair salon) about a 1/4 mile down, turn in to that little shopping area and that's where you'll find San Rafael's finest tailor. I've been meaning to write this review for over a year now - oops! Sorry Armando! Anyways, If you ever need any sort of alterations for ANYTHING, Armando can handle it. He's the only tailor I trusted throughout the 5 years of living in Marin. He's also reasonably priced - one of the last great tailors out there. I was on a college budget so his quotes for hemming my jeans was what reeled me in. Needless to say, I never stopped going back. He took care of... pretty much my whole closet (I'm short so I needed everything hemmed). So knowledgeable. When he knew that something would look weird or that he wouldn't be able to do a great job on something, he'd tell you! He's not going to take your money if he knows an alteration just isn't going to work out. I always really appreciated that about him. The reason I'm writing this review now is because I'm back in my hometown of Santa Barbara and trying to get a dress hemmed and wish I could pop back in and see Armando! Armando was super nice and did a rush order. My son announced very last minute he was going to the prom-- which was less than a week away. I went into panic mode. I didn't have money to buy or rent a tux, and even if I did there was no time. I took him to goodwill the next day and was wonderfully blessed to find a perfect fitting tux for him. Very beautiful. Very high quality. We also found pants and a shirt. The pants were a bit too long. I paid less than $20 at goodwill for the whole package. Armando hemmed the pants last minute for an amazingly affordable rate. He's a really good guy. My kid looked absolutely FANTASTIC in his vintage tux. Thank you Armando and Goodwill! read more

armando is my tailoring dream come true! after the absolute worst experiences at maxwells cleaners in larkspur i found armando thanks to yelp and am so grateful. most of the repairs i bring to armando are pretty minor, i work for a clothing store in larkspur, but so far he's gotten every repair i've brought to him done on the spot. at maxwells we'd have to wait anywhere from 3-5 days to get our items back which means lost business for us. armando's also so nice! such a gentleman and always a pleasure to deal with. plus his prices are so reasonable. i can't sing his praises enough! read more

Wow! Finally a real outstanding tailor in Marin. Armando is a real nice person who does good work at a reasonable price, quickly and well. Although his office is hard to find--keep looking. He is in the back and upstairs. Be aware ---use the new San Rafael parking meters and avoid a $ 35 parking ticket like I got on my first visit. read more
