Please feel free to check out the review that I will also be leaving for Joy Tailoring in Newport Beach (Nana's store) for a more comprehensive review. .. Not that I should have to justify a bad review, but the negative points below are mostly in part to the way the business is run & are not necessarily the quality of the alteration itself. prOs.. .. The alteration job was done very well & exactly what I needed. .. The price for what I asked to be done was reasonable - $15. cOns.. .. Nana was supposed to call me when the dress was ready as I was not in a rush for it. I expected to hear from her in a week or two, but after two weeks had gone by & she had not contacted me, I called her to ask about the progress. She told me that the dress was ready & to come by whenever to pick it up. As I said, I was not in a rush for the dress, but I felt like I offered her the courtesy of not having to rush to get it done if she had more urgent orders, but I did not receive the same courtesy back when she said she would call me when it was ready. .. Her living room where she runs her business out of, is rather messy. I've been to her home on 4 separate occasions & it's always in the same state. She also has a very friendly pet dog who isn't a problem until you consider the fact that it spends the entire time you're there chewing at it's hind leg which is pink, raw, & looks like he might have a skin condition or lice. I respect & applaud those who run businesses out of their homes, but I feel like that should not be an excuse to not treat it as a business with a professional area to meet with your clients. On that note, her teenage son is a joy. He was there for a few of my visits & on occasion can be heard screaming "bitches love me" while playing video games (or so I assume) with his friends upstairs. Again, I can respect that it's their home, but it's pretty unprofessional. .. Her lack of organization is also a problem. Every time I call in, rather than ask me for my name or tag number, you can almost hear her try to remember who you are by voice recognition. I can appreciate the "treating you like family approach", but it's not effective. I do not want to spend 5 minutes describing to you the article of clothing I'm calling about when I should just be able to provide you with a tag number. read more

I really want to stress that Nana indeed has a sweet personality, but seriously, I almost think that I offended her or something because the service I got was, in all honesty, incredibly frustrating. Multiple things went wrong, and a lot of them I think can be attributed to her being just way too busy recently; in my case, I felt like she was rushed and consequently disorganized. I sought her out because the hours of her business from home were ideal, and all the reviews here were great. I asked for 1) a dress to be taken in 2) new dress hangers to be put on two dresses and 3) for another dress to have a small (less than one inch) tear/weird fold corrected at the neckline. I asked to pick them up in two weeks. Things that went wrong: --Scheduling an appointment was a bit difficult. I called her, and she told me she would call me back. She didn't. I had to call her again. No red flags yet for me at this point, I don't expect people to remember everything. --Despite scheduling an appointment, I felt like my drop-off was incredibly rushed, partially double-booked, and somewhat inconsiderate. I was not really greeted or even acknowledged when I arrived. She was VERY MUCH in the middle of another customer's appointment, and still asked me to change into the dress I wanted taken in. I sat around for a good 10-20 minutes in my dress waiting for her. At this point I feel a bit awkward, but not ready to run for the hills or anything. --(As a side note, when I was finally getting my dress pinned, I tried to pull it up a bit beforehand because my bra was peeking out, and she basically barked "DON'T DO THAT" at me, verbatim. I might have just been too sensitive about that, though.) --I asked to pick up my dresses in two weeks, but tried to make it clear that this was not a rush order in any way. I knew it was a lot of things to keep track of, and tried to be very clear with which dress needed what (repeating myself multiple times), with a flexible pick-up date so as not to hurry her. Yet I noticed she wrote basically nothing down, and this came back to bite me in the butt later. --The day before my original pick-up date, she left me a message saying she had a question about my order. Okay, no problem. I call back; no answer, and full voice mailbox. I try multiple times, same thing. I assume at this point my order is not ready for pickup, and so I leave on a summer trip and am unable to contact her for an entire week. That she had a question isn't what bothered me, nor did the extra wait (like I said, this was not a rush order by any means), it was the consistent difficulty in contacting her. --Turns out she had me mixed up with another customer, and that she didn't actually have a question for me. Honest mistake, but really, you can see that these are kinda adding up at this point. Also, we have tags on our orders for a reason, right..? --Finally I return and I am able to make an appointment to pick up my dresses. I come in, and after being mistaken for another customer again, try on the one dress that I asked to have taken in, pay up, and leave. It fits! Thank you, Nana! BUT, WHEN I GOT HOME, I REALIZED: EVERYTHING ELSE WAS NOT DONE. That tear/weird fold? IT STILL HAD THE PIN IN IT FROM WHEN NANA PINNED IT. The dresses that needed new hangers sewed in? One of the dresses HAD NOT BEEN WORKED ON AT ALL (literally no changes), which might have been a good thing, because the other dress that did get dress hangers, THE TAG IN THE BACK HAD BEEN ACCIDENTALLY SEWED INTO THE SEAMS ALONG WITH THE NEW DRESS HANGERS. Cutting off the tag was no big deal, but seeing such a clear sign of rushed/inattentive work was really disappointing. All in all, I am not overly upset because Nana is, as I agree, an otherwise warm person, and she was willing to give me those small edits free of charge. Yet even though I don't feel like I wasted money in coming here, I really do feel like I wasted a lot of time, between the difficult communication, mixed up orders, and unfinished orders. I really think she was just way too busy (or else harbored a secret dislike for me?). I wish she had just told me in the beginning if she had too many clients, instead of making me now have to also go find another alterations place to finish the job. It's just all kinda frustrating and inconvenient. I really encourage those thinking about becoming a new customer to just hold off for a while on Nana's home business for a bit. She really doesn't seem to have the time to remember you or your order at the moment (and I mean that in the most un-sarcastic, most sincere way possible), so for now, don't fall for the good hours. read more

First of all, I have been on yelp for many years and have always been a "lurker" (someone who just reads reviews but does not give any reviews, sorry!). However, Nana has just been TOO AMAZING for me not to write a review. I had a flight at night to go to a wedding but just had realized that morning that there was a problem with the fitting of my slacks. This was completely my fault since I never tried on those new slacks until that morning (this was obviously an emergency). I called all the tailors in my area and explained to them my situation but none could accommodate my emergency.... except for Nana! After speaking with her over the phone, she assured me that she could help me by altering my slacks on the SAME DAY. Long story short, I went in around noon, got fitted, and went back to her later that evening to pick up my altered slacks... AND THE FITTING WAS PERFECT! In addition to her skills, she is also a genuinely great person! I really wanted to tip her for what she did but she still refused to accept my tip. I will be going back to Nanas for all of my alterations and fittings and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her for anyone looking to do the same! read more

I took in two pencil skirts for Nana to alter. They were too long for me, so I just asked her to make the skirts at an appropriate work/knee length. She charged me $30 total for the skirts, and they were altered perfectly. I will definitely be seeing her for any of my alteration needs! If you can visit her during the day (maybe before 5 pm), you can meet her at her work in Newport Beach. But since I live and work in Irvine, I was able to meet her at her home in Irvine after 7:30 pm to get my skirts fitted and pick them up as well. This woman is a professional, and she is very charming and friendly. My boyfriend got to chat with her and he found out that she got her degree in Fashion Design and has been working on her craft professionally for 30 years. She will not disappoint you! Nana is an angel. She is likely the sweetest, kindest, most considerate person you will ever meet. I called her at 1pm on Friday about a ballgown I had received in the mail, and i needed altered for the next night! She told me she doesn't have time and there's no way she can alter my dress in time.. i told her I would pay double! yet she refused! she told me she cares about her work and her customers and the money won't make a difference. That's when I knew i had to have this magical lady fix my dress! She genuinely cared! She told me to bring it in anyways and she will take a look... I took the dress to her on friday around 2pm. I put it on, she pinned what needed to be changed. She totally gave me advice about what should be changed and what shouldnt. She was honest, sweet, fast yet thorough. That's when she told me she would fix it by saturday at 4pm! I was THRILLED! She quoted me a price..and i was stunned at how reasonable it was! I went the next day to pick it up and she gave me a $10 discount off the price she quoted me the day before! I can't believe I had a ballgown altered extensively in 24 hours for that price.... it was unreal! Needless to say, I was the bell of the ball and everyone LOVED my dress. I needed a suit tailored for a BIG interview and she really took the time to listen to exactly what I wanted, as well as make some suggestions about fit, sleeve length, etc. I never felt pressured or like she was trying to upsell me, but you can tell she really knows what it will take to make clothes look great on someone. Before leaving she gave me a ticket with the price and told me it would be ready when I needed it. On the day I was scheduled to pick up my clothes I arrived and she greeted me like we were old friends. I was so happy with how my suit turned out and was able to go to my interview with confidence! 5 stars for Nana!! Based on such great yelp reviews, I decided to bring my dress here to get altered. The dress was a birthday gift so it was pretty big, but gorgeous. I went in blindly on Yelp to get my suit jacket fitted and Nana was the one with a full 5 stars, so i trusted these reviews and gave her a call. I trusted every words she said because i knew nothing. I met with her to get a measurement and quote on price. Her price is inexpensive and definitely affordable. When she was measuring my suit jacket to my body, I definitely felt the change and right away I know she was going to do a great job. A week later when I picked up and tried on my jacket, I felt like a different man immediately, the change is immense and it was a better fit than I could have ever imagine it. I don't know how else to express my gratitude but repeatedly saying "thank you" and I'm so grateful for what she has done for me. Nana is amazing and a total sweetheart! I skeptically came as it was honestly somewhat difficult for me to understand her when we spoke on the phone. I had bought a dress for my photoshoot months before the actual shoot, but kept putting it off to have it altered shorter (because I have short legs and what looked to be "knee length" on the model ended up being "tea length" on me..) After reading her awesome reviews, I gave her a call and she kindly squeezed me in to her very busy schedule. I went to her and she was just the sweetest lady ever. And after chatting with her, I could tell that besides having expert skills, she also has a good sense of what's in trend now. She quickly pinned the markers on the dress and was (again) kind enough to rush it for me. After 2 days the dress was done, and it was perfect! And it was cheaper than I expected. Look through Yelp for an alteration place and noticed all the good reviews for Nana. I was a bit surpised with all the 5 stars. I mean, can she really be that good?! But, Yelp rarely let me down so here I go. I called and realize this is her home and she is only home at night. This seemed kind of strange. Nana was late getting home so her son kept us company while we waited for her. He is a very nice yong man (polite, friendly, etc.). You should know that she open an store in Newport Beach so she doesn't get home until after 7:30pm or 8pm. I wanted to shorten my jacket's sleevs. Nana pointed out many other problems (jacket is too lose, sleep is too wide, back is not smooth, etc.). In my head, I'm starting to see many $$$$$. Nana got it done in a week (as we agreed before I left). The price, well, let's just say it probably is as cheap as it gets. I even gave her extra since I felt the work is worth more than what she charged. The work is great. The sleeves had a black trim and I figure it will no longer be there since it will be too hard to remove it, shorten the sleeves, and put it back on. To my suprise, they were there when I picked up my jacket. The only down side is Nana's living room is a little dark (a few light bubles were out). read more

If you are looking for a tailor in Orange County, Nana is the best. She let me come by and try on and drop off my dresses at night after 7, at a convenient time for me. she even added a zipper into one of my dresses so it would fit even better (her idea). The price for two dresses plus a zipper in one of them was so economical! She is excellent at what she does and she takes credit cards at her store which is a plus! I rarely write reviews on yelp unless I've had an incredibly horrible experience or an experience so amazing that I have to share. With Nana, it is the latter. I have been to numerous tailors for alterations and have paid quite a bit of money and have sadly never been completely satisfied. I have even been to tailors that have not wanted to touch my dresses or other clothing items because they were unsure of how to go about the changes. Nana is truly an amazing and gifted tailor. She knows how to make any clothing item look like it was made for you. I had a dress that needed quite a bit of work in a short period of time. I was nervous about trying someone new, but realized I had nothing to lose since I had not yet met a tailor that I liked. My dress needed a lot of work. The sides all needs to be taken in, the sleeves needed to be narrowed, and even the boatneck portion of the dress needed to be altered. I also realized after talking to Nana that the pattern and cut of the dress were quite complex. However, Nana made all the right suggestions and even some that I didn't even think of. She is so talented, honest, and humble. The final product was perfect! The dress looked like it was custom made for me! I have never been able to say that before. I even brought along a sample pair of pants for her to use but she measured me once and all the pants came back fitting perfectly. She is very good at what she does. I recently needed to have a wrap dress altered. After seeing Nana's positive reviews I contacted her on a Friday afternoon, just under a week before I hoped to have the dress ready to wear. Nana offered to have me come to her house that weekend but we ended up working out for me to stop by on Monday morning to have the dress ready the next Friday morning. I wasn't sure if she'd have time to shorten the dress and bring the top up a bit, but she had it ready as promised. She did great work and for a very affordable price. Nana is so helpful and friendly. I like how she accommodates customers's schedule: a good portion of working population actually get off from work late at night, and either late night or weekends will be the only time they can run errands. Nana is able to meet with customers past typical business hours. I get off late from work, and make an appointment a day in advance to meet with her the following night at almost 9pm, and she is totally fine with the late appointment. She is patient and does magic on of my skirts that was gifted (it is one size larger than what I usually wear). I know that skirt is a lot of work, and am very happy with Nana's patience and detail alteration skills. She is also honest about whether my suggested alteration would actually make the piece of clothing look better or worse on me instead of just plainly taking the suggestion and alter as told like how usual business works. She cares about how the clothing will fit on the customers and how to help to make the clothing fit nicer on the customer. Pricing is reasonable, and since my alteration was not urgent, I can't comment on the time. I am sure Nana tries her best to meet customer's urgent time line, if there's any. Nana is a very charming and kind person. She does a perfect job. I needed to alter my wedding dress to make it shorter. She removed all of the lace from the bottom and was able to hand stitch it back together seamlessly. She did a great job and surprisingly it was very reasonable. Her business is a family business and she works very hard for her customers. Sometimes I wonder if she actually has a chance to sleep...every time I visited her for fitting, she would constantly have customers coming in for alterations. We found an adult 00P dress on sale that we hoped could somehow work for our much younger graduating daughter. Nana had creative suggestions for dealing with the adult darts, sleeves, and length. She also had the solid skills needed to make the changes properly. She accommodated our need to have everything finished in five days (of course I suggest that giving her more time to work is better than pushing a rush job). Her pricing was great for our budget.
