I needed a pair of gauze pants altered because the seam kept ripping out every time I wore them. I took them in to Alterations Plus because we have had great service every time over the years. Linnie, the owner, was at the shop the day I stopped by and when I requested that I get the pants by the following Thursday she informed me that she was taking a week's vacation with family and it would have to be the following week. I nicely shared with Linnie that we were leaving on a vacation to Europe for 18 days and asked if there was any way I could get them before she took her week off. She very kindly and graciously obliged and had the pants ready to go the next day. Having someone truly care about their customers and take pride in their work, their craft is so welcome these days. Such a wonderful little find. Took a pair of drapes to have hemmed, was quoted 5 days. Received a text message 2 days later that they were finished. Second visit had a throw pillow repaired, the owner not only repaired the pillar area but fixed the zipper and reenforced the entire edging of the pillow. Per good yelp reviews, I came here with four pairs of pants that each needed some kind of repair. Two had worn holes in them ($100 jeans wearing holes in the thighs only a few wears, wow!) and the other two had broken zippers that were missing teeth and needed to be replaced (those ones were cheap, go figure). I guess I am hard on my clothes but I'd rather patch up a good pair of jeans than buy another that is likely to wear out again. I paid $45 upfront and picked up my clothes about a week later. I believe payment is usually due at drop-off, which can be good because you have a set price before any work is done. Anyways, so far so good, for both the patched up jeans and the new zippers. Yay! I will definitely be back if I ever have any other alterations, hemming or repairs. read more

My (soon to be) father-in-law, who's born & raised in Tampa, has been acquainted with Trudy, who runs it, for many years. When I bought a business suit & had to have it hemmed last year, he instantly said, "I haven't been to Trudy in a while, but if she's still there, I'm she can get that done for you." & she was, so she did. I got my pants (both the suit pants & another pair that needed hemming) back in 3 days (I'm sure faster would've cost more but I wasn't in a rush) & they look great. Dad paid that time, so I don't know what it cost. I went back a couple of months ago for some other things: I had a handmade purse from Japan that had stitching coming out -- very bold, thick, contrast stitches -- & they fixed it up perfectly so that you didn't know it wasn't the original handiwork. I also had a jacket that had some tricky buttons that needed replacing; & a pair of skinny jeans & a pair of flared corduroys that needed hemming. The pants were $19 together, & with the button it came to $21. It's maybe a little more than I was expecting for, but I haven't had a lot of tailoring done, & they do a very good job so I'm not complaining. read more

I had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be hemmed, have the straps tightened and be taken in. I brought it in without any appointment, was fitted on the spot and the dress was done in less than a week. The whole thing cost $58, which was quite reasonable for the work that had to be done. I went to Alteration Plus, Rocky Creek Dr. approximately two weeks ago to get a custom jumpsuit sewn for a New Years Eve party. The owner spoke to me at the entrance of her store & didn't invite me in. Sadly, I had to ask if it was ok to come up to the counter so I can show her my pattern. She looked at the picture & said her cost is $30/hr, and my jumpsuit was a 3hrs min job. After I agreed to her price, the owner suggested that I buy a jumpsuit instead. She then walked off and said she was very busy and don't have time to speak with me any further. A caucasian woman entered her shop a few seconds after, and brought in a blouse for alteration. The owner welcomed her in & accepted the job. I left her store very sad & disappointed, because I was fully aware that: 1. Being an African American woman, I was profiled at the entrance 2. She assumed I couldn't afford her services 3. I was disrespected with no apology because of the color of my skin. Unfortunately, it was her lost as I had a total of 3 outfits I wanted custom made. Since she assumed I was only there to waste her time, I decided to keep looking for another taylor/seamstress. Time to stop judging books by its cover... read more

I called to get a price quote on curtains and the lady that answered was super rude. Wouldn't give me a quote and told me I just had to bring them in. I asked if it was the fabric that matters and she was irritated and seemed like I was bothering her. Well I won't be bothering her with my business. read more

Do not trust this store! My fiancé just got back from the store with her wedding dress and they 1) broke the zipper 2) got blood on the dress 3) damaged the sequins all over the dress. Their response... She broke the zipper trying it on after the alterations, she must have gotten makeup on it from before (she doesn't wear red or even dark makeup) and sequins just fall off you'll only wear it once. It's obvious they were lying and offered to charge us $35to try and clean and repair. No thank you. We will never visit this store again. read more

I will never go back here again with such poor professionalism or customer service. Due to the reviews I went to have 5 work uniforms hemmed and tailored. Since I work my roommate went to collect my items on my behalf and I was charged $15 MORE than I was invoiced for!!! When I called to see why there was a difference in the invoice as I was giving all the lady could say was that the clerk who took my order did not add correctly... WHAT?!?! I now have NO original invoice, just the pick up slip to see what I was even charged for, at no time was I contacted about the mistake on their part or informed of any price change until my roommate told me what she paid! The lady had no care about running a professional business or providing any sorts of customer service when asked why she wouldn't have contact ed me before moving forward with an additional cost... all she could say to me was "Well I am not doing it for free", If it wasn't on the order like stated then how did you even know what I needed done to the dress, why was it done if it wasn't on the order, why was I not notified of any additional costs. read more

DO NOT GO NEAR!!!! Trudy the owner of this place is so old she has completely forgotten how to correctly measure a male for a suit and along with that lapse in memory went any manners or the knowledge of what being polite and courteous to customers is. This woman is mean and just plain nasty and rude! I went in to rent a suit for my son's first homecoming. She has no clue about modern styles and completely ruined my son's experience by criticizing his taste. I let it go since she is older and told my son to be respectful also. She went on to measure him, would not take his pant size or anything from me because she was measuring him. We had to pay half up front. A week later we went for the fitting and nothing fit. The pants were 2 sizes too big the shirt also super huge along with the coat. She was not there for the fitting and the clerk was only able to tell us she had made notes and Trudy would call us back the next day. We panicked since there were only 3 days till homecoming and my son had nothing to wear. Rentals At This Place Take a Week To Come IN So My Husband decided our only Option Was To Buy Our Son A suit. When Trudy called back the next day she gave me an attitude told me she had ordered another shirt. Wouldn't even let me explain that the entire suit was too big. And said we would not be getting our $ back. I told her it was not our fault she measured him wrong. She said she didn't care and hung up on me!!!! Horrible person and horrible experience. Beware! All to often we are quick to write a negative comment about a person or company. I am writing to express my appreciation an thanks for the wonderful treatment I received by Trudy. My son, a Marine, needed his military patches sewn on his uniform. She took great care to get the patches in the proper place and, didn't charge him. She is a very hard worker and while some people like to try and get things for nothing, her quality of work and attention to detail is bar none. I took my wedding gown here to have a bustle put in and the halter strap shortened. Trudy charged me $53 for this. I came to realize I needed more alterations in the waist and hip area. She quoted me $120 for this. I felt the need to get another estimate, this seemed high. I was showing my friend the dress and upon slightly pulling the bow for the bustle which held up the train of my dress the small string she had sewn in came right out in my hand. I was already on my way to another alterations store on Kennedy when this happened. The new alterations place quoted me $80 for the same alteration and offered to fix the bustle for free. I went back to Alterations Plus to inquire on a $25 credit for what I was charged for the bustle and Trudy refused. Instead she accused me of PULLING on it to hard because "it was in there good". She exclaimed that I was so happy with the dress when I tried it on...yada yada and that she did not understand why I needed more alterations. I can assure you I did not TUG on this tiny shoelace type string that held my train. The reason I didn't think I needed more alterations is because this woman did not know how this gown was supposed to be laced up in the back (corset style) and how it was to fit my figure through the waist and hips. Clueless on modern style fittings obviously. I would NOT recommend this shop to any of my friends or family. read more
