Here's their sign. This is what you see coming from the south. Parking is before the building.

For what this is, a small town diner, it deserves 5 stars for excelling in that category. The building is old, the inside is plain and simple, but the food, oh the food, is delicious simplicity. We wound up here because another favorite restaurant in Blountstown was closed on Sunday. A quick consult with Yelp and a short run up Highway 71 brought us to their door. We tried several choices from the daily "meat and two" board. The fried chicken was a simply prepared delight. Nice crusty coating fried just right and tasty. Collards that had just the edge of bitterness tempered with a little sweet and all their natural taste. I normally sprinkle (my wife would say douse) my greens with a mix of hot sauce and pepper vinegar but it would have been an insult to add anything. The "field peas" were black eyes cooked soft but not mushy with their wonderful earthy taste. I even enjoyed the slightly sweet "store bought" roll that completed the lunch plate. It made a nice little sandwich with a piece of ham from my wife's plate. She enjoyed her ham, very yellow creamed corn that contained whole kernels of yellow corn in the creamed yellow corn and mashed potatoes and gravy. The cornbread was tasty too and unique. Not a cornbread square and not a hoe cake but still a thin fried cornbread. You'll see them in the picture we took. Some will complain that the portions are small and as a younger man with a heartier appetite I would have been among them. Today it was just right. Neither of us left hungry nor were we so sated that we would have preferred a post prandial siesta to finishing the drive home. $8.60 each for lunch including a big sweet tea and that was refilled before we left so I had it to sip on the rest of the way home. Service was attentive and friendly and worth a little extra in the tip. We make fairly frequent trips over to the Niceville/Ft. Walton area and I think we will be trying to plan the timing of our trips so that we can stop by Altha Diner for lunch either on the way over or on the way back. P. S. This was my 1600th check in on Yelp.

Great burgers. Small diner kind of loud atmosphere but great service. If you're a local you could always see someone that you know.

Only eaten here for breakfast (multiple days while working in the area), but, good 'Waffle House' style fresh-made grub.

As someone who has been reviewing for Yelp for a long time, this has to be the absolute worst…read moredining experience I've ever had. I mean that very seriously. On Saturday, 2/28, I came into the restaurant at 6:15pm with a group of 6. Looking around the restaurant, there were only 3 tables taken. The Hostess wanted to put us a table, but it wouldn't fit us all. We asked her where to sit and she told us to decide on seating. We had to suggest to put a table together and started to move it ourselves, then she helped. Just odd because we had no idea if they had a table to seat us. While waiting for the server, the table in front of us asked for to-go boxes and was told they only have the bottoms, no lids. She brought plastic wrap to cover their leftovers. They were not happy and left without a lot of their leftovers. Our service came out and was very sweet. She honestly was the nicest person at that restaurant and she deserves to go somewhere that she can make better money. She told us they only had beer and wine, but only a few on the wine list. Sometimes if it was asked for, they said they didn't have it. I stuck to a Coke. We ordered as follows: Me: Loaded Baked Potato (yes that's it.) Person 2: wedge salad Person 3: cornbread skillet Person 4 and 5 had burgers. One had cheddar cheese with everything on it. The other had everything BUT pickles. We waited about an hour for our food. Person 5's burger came out and the fries were cold. I'm not meaning lukewarm, I mean COLD. Like out a fridge. They hadn't even been cooked all the way. Person 4's burger came out without cheese. Both of those were sent back to get that fixed. Person 4's burger came back with a piece of half melted (what looked like) American cheese on the bottom of the burger and the burger was BURNT. I mean, hockey puck burnt. When the fries were sent back, we could hear the cook SCREAMING AND THROWING THINGS, yelling that we "weren't right" and he "had just took those up". The server even felt them and agreed with us. My baked potato came out hard. I couldn't really even eat it. It was hard, bland and it was covered in sour cream, even the outside. A runner came over to bring some salt and pepper and I asked her if she wouldn't mind letting us talk to a manager. Everyone there said I was polite in asking, as we just wanted to tell her what was going on, not trying to get anything free. When I asked, she threw her hands up in the air, slapped her hips, rolled her eyes and stomped away. The people around us even looked at her. They also could hear the cook yelling. We did see another couple send their food back as well while we were waiting. The manager comes over and when we tell her everything, she tells us she agrees and that she's working on getting better help, as we could see what she was working with there. We just asked her for the check and asked to go. We hear the manager try to talk to the team and the cook begins to scream and talk down to her. Then, he came out and stared at our table. If looks could kill, we would all be dead. The thing is- burgers there are $18. We didn't get anything hard to make but only the salad and the cornbread were fit to eat. They did comp our meal, but we continued to ask them to let us pay. Instead, we ended up giving the money to the server. She can only do what she can and she was so sweet. I do have multiple people who will attest to everything that happened. That was the whole experience. We walked outside and immediately went to get something else to eat. We came to the American because this was our first time in town and we had heard great things about it! Of course, we had seen it on TV as well, so we were very excited. The next night, another couple we knew went there and had the same experience. She was the only table in there and they still took over an hour and her food was terrible. This is absolutely so disappointing. The American used to be THE destination down here but now, it's the one everyone is telling people NOT to go to. We talked to our hotel host and they said they wished we would have asked because they would have told us to stay away. It's a shame. I really hope they can get some new people in there who care about food and making it good! I'd love to come back if they're able to improve and change my review. I do have 5 other people who are willing to attest to this, so as much as I wish it was an exaggeration, it's not.

Good drink selections with both local and more faraway craft options for beer. Elevated Southern/Georgia fare on the menu. For appetizers, try the cornbread and heirloom tomato pie. You can get quality fried chicken, pork chop, and grits here. I had the Pecan Crusted Idaho Trout. The sauce was bit cloying but the fish was tasty. Service was quick and competent, especially with a large group. Definitely one of the best dining options in downtown, and right next door to the brewery.

I can assure you should not miss restaurant. The ambience is perfect Moroccan culture down to the red soap, dispensers and papertowels, and sinks in the restroom. I did not think it looked like a restaurant from the outside. The prices are truly surprisingly low for the quality of the food. The shish kebabs meet was tender, the rice was delicious. The lamb leg melted in your mouth. The hummus was delicious, the pita bread was fresh. I could have eaten more of the wonderful and very tasty in grape leaves, which had a little spicy. This place needs to be on your list to try. I understand it maybe a long way however, if you want, real Mediterranean Morocco food this is a place to go. It may be two hour from my house, but I'll be coming back. We met the chefs, who were very friendly, information and knowledgeable.

If you know anything about middle eastern, Turkish or Mediterranean food this place doesn't have the flavor. Had the chicken shawarma and it's made from chicken fingers, the fattoush was a bit of a joke it was iceberg lettuce (lol) and not one touch of sumac. While the food was meh I wouldn't call this Mediterranean by any stretch of the imagination. If I didn't know Mediterranean maybe it would somehow fool me. Buddy had the lamb shank and it was tender but completely bland. Sorry, won't be back.

My wife and I got burgers and they were delicious. No frozen patties here actually with the quality of the food makes me think that this restaurant doesn't even have a freezer. Everything I had was definitely made fresh in my opinion. And just when I was about to give up on looking for good fried green tomatoes my wife found this place. Do yourself a favor if you stop here, get an order because they were delicious! Crispy and crunchy in a good way. We're in Dothan for two more weeks and we will definitely be going back there a few mor times before we head to Florida. As far as the service you couldn't ask for anything better. We spent a month in Townsend Georgia last year and everyone was super nice and very friendly. I can't say that about the experience that I've been having here in the Dothan area, don't get me wrong all the people are very friendly and nice but unfortunately all of the places we had dinner at were not as friendly as the folks in Georgia were but this dinner changed all that for us. Good old southern hospitality came beaming through from everyone at this diner. They were all very kind and they even made sure that we knew that we may be getting snow this weekend. Finally portions, quality and prices were outstanding!!! If you're passing through do t hesitate to stop here for some great food, service and atmosphere.

On this particular day I ordered Al a carte--2 soft scramble eggs with cheese, hash browns with onions and ham, and one pancake.
