We brewed a batch with Dan and Chris recently, and it was a blast. They make it easy and fun, and they are a wealth of information. You pay for a private session, brewing materials, and you can choose the type of beer you want to make. The price is extremely reasonable. If you're on the fence about this pull the trigger. Great idea for dates, friend groups, or just if you want to get into it yourself. Our beer came out a little lighter than we were aiming for -- we were shooting for a really dark one, but it still tastes excellent. Dan offered to brew another batch with us. I declined, of course, since the beer still turned out really well. The offer alone tells you something about the kind of business they run. Solid guys. I had a bit of an unusual situation with Altitude Homebrew Supply. Late Saturday afternoon we were preparing for our Labor Day Brew Celebration. At the last moment we realized we needed some brew supplies. All the Lakewood Brew Supply stores were closed. In desperation we called Altitude Homebrew Supply after hours hoping we would get a recording telling us their store would be open on Sunday. To our surprise a very nice gentleman picked up. We explained our predicament. Even though it was after hours and he was heading out the door he took our order over the phone and placed our supplies in a safe place so we could pick them up after hours later Saturday evening. I was bottling some beer when my capper snapped off in my hands. It was 6:40. I called Altitude to see if I could run over and purchase a new one. They said they would wait for me, even though they closed at 7:00. I had only bottled 6 beers so I was worried my beer would be ruined. I arrived at Altitude and realized in my haste I forgot my wallet. They had the capper waiting for me and said don't worry about paying and they would email me the bill. My husband and I walked into Altitude Brewing and Supply early afternoon on June 28, 2018, excited to spend some $$ on a good recipe. The guy at the counter hardly acknowledged that we were there, not that we expected a parade, but at least make us feel a little welcome. He printed out the recipe we were after and pointed towards the other room where the grains were. He never asked if we'd been there before, or if we needed any help, or to let him know if we had any questions, etc. My husband who had reviewed the recipe online, had a couple of questions about the recipe and instructions. When he asked the guy his questions, he responded by saying he never uses recipes so he couldn't answer the questions and didn't offer any alternate advice. We got our stuff (about $80 worth), paid and left. We can't figure out why he wasn't more helpful. We never need a whole lot of help whenever we get a kit, but the lack of pleasantries make us not want to spend anymore of our time and money in a place that seems disinterested in customer service. I read a lot of nice reviews about this place, so maybe he was having a bad day, which is fair. But in the same thought, we are customers buying products from your business. I will say that he was helpful when we were getting our hops, maybe because they were out of some of the hops in the recipe, or maybe he realized he was kind of a tool, who knows? Fortunately, we live in Colorado and have tons of other options. UPDATE: The owner contacted us and did the right thing. We will become regular customers at Altitude Brewing!! Dan was amazing. He helped us brew a batch of beer and made it so fun and educational. My wife paid for a beer making class for just us. We were able to choose the type of beer and it turned out better than our expectations! We will definitely be back to make some more beer. Dan was the absolute best! I had to get a whole new set up and hadn't brewed in a few years so I was rather rusty on my brewing knowledge. Dan was very helpful and took the time to get me a great custom set up in a price range I could afford. Dan is awesome. I first stopped in about a month ago when I needed a new dispensing line for a keg. We build it from parts on the spot, as I really didn't know exactly what I needed. He then shared a taste of an orange cream ale they brewed during one of their brewing classes. As I was checking out I noticed a flyer they had advertising live hop plants for sale. We talked about the neomexicana varieties and he showed me the two plants they had growing out front. I ordered two plants on the spot but I knew timing was going to be an issue as I was heading out on vacation. They got the plants in and cared for them for two weeks until I got back. Decent shop missing water adjustment acids for mash pH asked about it and they looked at me like I was an Alien. Didn't see as much selection on grain and yeast a few others have. Was told they're 10-15% cheaper than other local shops unfortunately I didn't see that when browsing the shop but I also shop everywhere locally and everyone has around the same pricing on ingredients IMHO.
