The Grainfather brewing system is PERFECT for those wanting to stick to 5 gal batches and is cheaper in the long run than putting together your own burner, kettle, mash tun setup. These guys are hard working and their customer service is top notch! For months I have been going back and forth with a particular company on an EXPENSIVE piece of equipment that was faulty. They just brushed me off to the place I bought it at. Without wanting to be a pain, I stopped in and explained my situation to them. Within an hour I had a response from them and a solution as well! With in THREE business days, I had a brand new unit and no difficulty as well. This is not my LOCAL homebrew shop, it is a bit further than most for me. This shop has it all. Their yeast, grain and equipment selection is excellent. It is a very rare occasion to come to Quirky and not find what you need. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and does not put off the all to common "brewer arrogance" when asked for help (even with some pretty stupid questions). Bulk prices for bags of grain and pounds of hops reduce the cost of brewing by 30-45%. Need a special yeast? They carry at least 6 brands-- including Omega and Inland Island, Gigayeast and a large selection of dry yeasts. This store is an easy 5 stars. I have shopped at 5 homebrew stores in the metro area, including this one, and this is easily the best I've been to. They have a great selection of EVERYTHING, including equipment. I feel like some places don't stock much of the bigger brewing equipment, but they even stock things like ph meters, which most places don't seem to have. I was looking for phosphoric acid and called multiple stores, including in Boulder County area and Denver, and this was the only place that had it. They also have a massive hop selection with a walk-in freezer. Never seen that...awesome! Also a great yeast selection. If you're looking for an obscure hop or yeast, chances are they have it. Best selection I've seen compared to other stores. Their grain selection is massive, and have a good variety of beer and wine kits. To top it off, great customer service. All of the staff are super helpful. Most importantly for the customer, they have GREAT prices. Better than other shops in the area. Although I have other shops a little closer to me, it's worth the trip for me. So to recap...great prices, great selection, great customer service...that's about all you need. Cheers. read more

I don't shop quirky very often because I live in South/East Aurora. I was looking for an omega lacto souring blend which no one in Colorado had not even quirky at the time I was looking. The guy said we'll order you some in and call you when it shows up. I thought he was yanking my chain but to my surprise 4 days later he he called and not only ordered my one package but 7 total in which I bought 6. I might not shop here as much as I do the closer shops to my house but I must say I was very impressed with these guys. I will make it to quirky when I'm out that way to help support not only the great shops by me but these guys as well. If you need a shop you'll never go wrong with these guys they're top notch. I'd give 10 stars if I could. All I have to say is DAAAAAMN!!!!! Insane selection of grains, hops, and everything else homebrew. Took me almost 30 minutes to figure out which black malt I wanted to use for my porter. I'm used to having 1 or 2 choices, he had 6 or more of just the black malt. Hops, hops, and more hops. He has a great selection of just about everything there is, and is working to secure everything he hasn't been able to yet order. Greg was also amazing. I spent 2 hours spinning in circles and chatting about beer. I love there's truly a one stop shop for homebrew supplies locally that definitely is competitive with even the internet. This is definitely my new go-to store for all my homebrew needs. Pros -grains and more grains, over 100 varieties currently -hops and more hops -adjuncts and spices out the wahoo -beer equipment I've never seen elsewhere -if you want something, ask and he will see what he can get, and will call once he has an answer (less than 24 hours from when I inquired about hops) -Greg is a great guy and passionate about his craft Cons -none Really made my head spin, and body. It is nice to go to a Homebrew store and have multiple brands of a particular grain to choose from and not have to find a less ideal substitute for my recipe. Wide selection of hops, also. This is hands down the best homebrew shop in the metro area. The owner is always there and super helpful. Prices are better than every other store and if you need something not in stock they will get it for you. I needed 4pk holders and they spent 2 weeks finding them for me. This is the perfect store for any one from beginner to pro. Their grain room is huge and growing all the time, they also have a huge discount for 50lb sacks. A WALK-IN HOP FRIDGE! Need I say more? But really, the staff here is extremely laid back and more than helpful. This was my first visit and I got a very warm welcome and a quick tour of the shop. The grain room is very well laid out, there is a wide yeast selection, and the hops fridge is great. I browsed most of the beer making equipment and the price was 30-50% lower than the shop I bought from years ago. I can't say enough about the selection and prices. The motto is along the lines of "Internet selection at internet pricing" and it is spot on. I stopped by during what I would consider an 'off hour' and they had people coming and going. Just a tip to find them... drive to the far end of the lot where it wraps around to the north and its right next to Stanley Steamer. I drove around a number of lots before I found them. I know zero about home brew or Denver but know my son is into it and wanted to get him something for his birthday before he moves out there. I've been home brewing awhile and seen plenty of shops. Quirky is the best I've ever been to, honestly. Outstanding selection of EVERYTHING...and if Greg doesn't carry it he can and will order it for you. They have walk-in just for hops! Huge yeast selection, including a lot of the Inland Island strains coming out of Denver. Try the Quirky Yeast Blend, it's a fantastic dry English blend and gives me about 80% ADF. Huge selection of grain as well. And best part is that their prices are top notch and will match all the big online stores. And they get the hookup on new Five Star products...like a phos acid and beer stone remover that aren't released widely yet. read more
