I stopped seeing Dr. Altman just before he was raided by the DEA. I was over medicated, suicidally depressed and Altman couldn't give a $#!@. As long as he was paid and your insurance was processed his bills successfully he would see you. He needed a secretary but was too cheap to get one. He never cared, never asked how you were doing, and would just keep prescribing meds you didn't need. QUACK and hustler. read more

Dr Altman is specialist who helps patients suffering from a variety of mental illnesses. He's very flexible and excellent doctor to work with . He has helped me tremendously and with the work I have accomplished with Dr Altman I am now striving in my career and able to handle life on life's terms . Other psychiatrist would make my anxiety worse and belittle me when describing my attention deficit disorder symptoms but that doesn't happen with Dr Altman if I could I'd give him 10 stars I would . Amazing doctor, very caring , very accommodating, easy to talk to and will work with most insurance plans . His office is easily accessible right off of rt 138 and the wait times are shorter than other practices I've been to. His knowledge of a variety of medications plus his passion for the work he does makes him in my opinion the best psychiatrist in Southern New England. read more

I saw Dr Altman for almost a year. I was always on time until I got a surgical procedure that threw my mental health off. I was late to one his appts and without warning he deduct 100$ from my card for a late fee. Of course I can't continue seeing a mental health provider if he can't be professional and empathetic about my health issues. read more

(I have since moved from Massachusetts for a fresh start since I worked with him.) I was dealing with some pretty bad stuff, going to court and having to face the POS who abused my children, fighting for custody to keep my children safe, night terrors, and all the stress that comes from that. I was working with a therapist who suggested that I get anti anxiety medication to help me through this and recommended Altman. I went and saw him, told him what was going on and immediately got prescribed three or four prescriptions, prozac, lorazepam, gaunfanacine, etc. I began taking them with the hopes that they would help me deal with the anxiety. First month was okay, but not great so he upped my dose, the second month he forgot to call in my prescriptions and I had problems sleeping, my anxiety skyrocketed, depression hit for the first time in my life, so he upped my doses and added more medication. This happened basically every month, he'd forget to call it in, I'd end up going without the meds for a few days to a week, unable to sleep, anxiety, stress, sick, etc. then he would call it in with a higher dose. I ended up becoming a zombie, my judgement was gone, everything was fine, nothing in life was wrong, bad decisions that I never would have made before were fine, great even because everything was great! Except when he forgot to call in my meds, which was all the time. He also accidentally added more meds to my pharmacy, huge tranquilizers! This went on for almost a year, by the end I was taking multiple anti anxiety meds, which any doctor can tell you is dangerous. You should never take more than one at a time. I was also up to 49 mg of meds a day, which again was incredibly dangerous. I started to lose control of my hands, they jerked a lot, headaches, twitchy, etc. I was not able to make any decision for myself and it was bad. I couldn't think straight. I had clear signs of addiction and withdrawal during those days that he forgot to call and he ignored them and kept prescribing, kept adding more. The last straw was when he forgot to call it in and I went a week without my pills, cold turkey coming off all those meds was incredibly dangerous. It also forced me into withdrawal. By the time that he finally called me back I was in full blow withdrawal, shakes, insomnia, non-stop vomiting, delirious, body tremors, burning up one second and freezing the next. I'm a teetotaler, I dont even drink tea, never mind alcohol or doing any drugs so realizing that I was in actually withdrawal was a nightmare for me. I had left a message for him begging for help, telling him that I was in withdrawals, etc. By the time he called back I couldn't talk. I sent him straight to voicemail where he promised me that it was no big deal and that it could be fixed by once again upping my meds. That I really shouldn't go off my meds because of my anxiety and how bad it was and explaining that everything would be better once I got more meds. I didn't call him back. Reported him, my therapist reported him, etc. Doubt anything came of it. It took me a full year to get over most of the symptoms of withdrawal from the meds. I was forced to go cold turkey when I should have been weaned off under medical care. I wasn't. The withdrawal took longer and I could have died. I'm incredibly lucky. I can't go back and take back all the things that happened because of the drugs that he prescribed, but I can leave this review. If you need help, please look elsewhere. read more

Dr. Altman has been over prescribing a family member. After being told she abuses her over prescribed medication, he then approved an early refill request for her. He has not seen this patient in years. She is very clearly screwed up from the medication and any stranger would agree. We are hiring an attorney to file for malpractice and compiling our records. Dr. Altman is the most unproffesional Dr. I have ever dealt with. All he wants is your money. You pay your co-pay, and then he spends 5 no more than 10 minutes with you. He is extremely rude. God forbid you get sick the day of an appointment, and you call and cancel, so you aren't rude and get him sick, he will still charge you an office visit. Things happen, and people aren't perfect, which goes back to the fact that all he wants is your money. If you are going to spend your money, spend it on a doctor that actually cares about you. read more

I have been to to Dr. Altman for a couple years. He filed to insurance that i was here and i wasn't. So i confronted him and he didn't change me again. So i said to myself ok we fixed it. I have been suffering with sever anxiety and depression for years and finally decided to go to a psychiatrist to see what he could do for me. My primary care physician (who I trust and have been going to since I was a kid) recommended Dr. Altman. When I arrived for my appointment it started out pretty well; he seemed nice, and I didn't have to wait long. However, I quickly began to feel uncomfortable as he started listing off symptoms and asking me if I had any of them. I could tell where he was going with them. Every question was leading to a bipolar diagnosis. He apparently decided before he even got to know me that that's what he wanted to diagnose me with. So inevitably I answered a couple of the questions with a "yes" and he gave me a prescription for a mood stabilizer. I was uncomfortable with it, but I decided to give it a chance. I figured he probably knew better than me. It was some serious stuff that really messed with my body. I only took it once. The next visit he prescribed me something milder. After four days I started to feel it messing with my mind, so I stopped once again. After this I called him up to cancel my appointment and said I was going to go back to just seeing my psychologist. Dr. Altman basically told me I had no hope outside of medication. When I saw my psychologist again and told him about my experience he was shocked, as he would never have given me a bipolar diagnosis. I have seen a couple of other psychiatrists and psychologists over the years, and done several tests, and nothing ever led any of them to believe that I was suffering from bipolar disorder. I believe Dr. Altman to be untrustworthy. read more

Dr. Altman is the most unethical person in the world!!!!!!! My wife called him he told my wife that he does not take her insurance and she would have to pay $100.00 plus $18.00. She called our insurance company they said that he does take our insurance. She has called him back and has not returned her calls. She has only a few days of her medication left and if does not take she take she will get sick which is not good since we have a six month old at home. This DR. ( using the term loosely) will not fill it for her. She has filed a complaint with our insurance company and the next step will be with the Attorney General. If you want to be treated rudely and just a cash cow then this your guy. read more

I went to another Psychiatrist prior to Dr. Altman, that Dr had me on ALL KINDS OF MEDS. Dr Altman got me off quite a few. Girlfriend wake up, with all Dr's its about the $, and Mark. Most Psychiatrist don't take Mass Health, so go to a clinic. Now, I was a mess when I went to Dr. Altman, he got me off a lot of meds, down to a few. He believes me when I tell him what is going on and one of the few that keeps my Primary Care in the loop. I really like Dr. Altman. He listens, he wants a person on as little meds as possible for the patients sake. He ALWAYS returns my calls. Of course he doesn't like to fill out the insurance novels, but I have not had an experience where any psychiatrist does. At least he doesn't scream and yell at me for this like my old psychiatrist did. The one that I would wait 2-4 hours to see, when I had an appointment. He hasn't lost my records like my old psychiatrist did. Dr Altman shoots straight from the hip. He is there to help me. HOwever people have to realize, you see a psychiatrist in conjunction with therapy. Thanks to Dr. Altman, I appreciate him and am glad I can feel comfortable with him. He just has to deal with the insurance company novels for the patients well being. I know very well, how the insurance companies will drive you off the edge. They almost had me the other day. Dr. Altman is quick to prescribe, and prescribe, and prescribe again! It took me months of working with another doctor to undo the damage caused by the overprescription of many different medications by Dr. Altman. Do yourself a favor and find another doctor. read more

I'm not really sure where these comments come from as Dr Altman has been nothing but approachable and compassionate to me since I started with him. He constantly follows up on previous discussions we have had and has always had an open mind when helping me. If you need him, you call, he returns your call. I've had a few psychiatrists previously and he is by far one of the finest. He has top knowledge and is up to date on all aspects of medicine. I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone. read more

UNETHICAL DOCTOR: I find it highly entertaining to say the least that "Dr." Altman has been receiving such rave reviews on Google - is he paying someone to write these? If you "Google" him and look particularly on Yelp! you will find numerous complaints to include overmedicating, misdiagnosing and not taking patients because of the pay he receives from a patient's insurance. To put it short, I believe Dr. Altman overmedicated me, was unprofessional in asking me "when am I supposed to find time to complete (necessary) short-term disability paperwork for you?" when I needed this paperwork to return to work and to continue to be compensated. Because of this jerk, I lost out on over $5,000 in employment pay and was told basically that I had too many issues for him to deal with so he no longer wanted to see me as a patient. Are you kidding me? What kind of doctor says these things; particularly to a mental health patient??? My advice, if he's ever referred to you - RUN!!! Oh, and BTW, he has virtually no waiting time because he has very little patients to see...that should be a BIG red flag! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Altman for 3 years. I have a terrible problem with Anxiety and Depression. He has helped me so much with those things also he has been so helpful with my trouble I was having with a teen daughter. I think he is wonderful and has really changed my life in a very positive way. I can't thank him enough! read more
