Stopped by after seeing recommendations for their italian subs from a local facebook group. This place is on the outside of Altoona and close to the mall area. This is an interesting setup with a small italian market and a deli counter. It looks like they do a lot of a catering based upon the view into their back of house. While we waited we picked up various speciality items. My son and I both ordered the 12" Pompeii's. This is one of their italian specialty cold cuts and comes with hot peppers. The meats and cheeses are boars head brand, sliced fresh and the sub comes loaded. The roll is a nice dense loaf. The hot peppers add a great kick! We both only ate half of our subs and had leftovers for dinner. They have various other hot & cold subs that we'll try on future visits. The service was helpful and super friendly. They were busy so it took probably 15 minutes to complete the process. Overall, it was a great sub and a welcomed change from the usual chain offerings. My only gripe is there's no in-store seating. If you're local it's a great takeout sub but we wanted to eat them immediately. read more

Overall, a couple of good hoagies. The meats are sliced fresh and very thin and the veggies are fresh. The roll were a bit bready but not bad. The market itself has a nice selection and some homemade sausages and other Italian staples. Bonus was the pepperoni roll next door at their bakery was delicious (Forno Alto). read more

Great subs! I often stop here on my way home from out of town. Fresh meats etc and great sub roll. Very generous with meat. Most authentic Italian subs in the atea. I'll call 30 minutes out and my subs are waiting for me when I arrive. Located by the mall just off 99. Very friendly and great selection of Italian groceries. read more

I have been wanting to visit this store since they opened. I'm originally from Altoona but now live in North Carolina where they have what they think are Italian goods. I love Alto's!!! I purchased homemade soups, hoagies, Italian lunch meat. Absolutely great!!! The store has a homey atmosphere. Everyone was so kind and professional. I'll be back for sure!!! My family and I were in Altoona to visit and decided to stop in on the way out of town, I'm so happy we did. The store is nicely done, and the staff was friendly and helpful.We got a variety of things,but made the ravioli and meatballs for dinner when we got home. My son said they were the best ravioli he has ever eaten.I hope my mom doesn't see this because the meatballs are my new favorite. We can't wait to try the hot sausages. We will definitely be back every time we visit Altoona. If you live in the Altoona area the store is past 58th street on the way out of town.It is worth the drive if you live on the other end of town, believe me. I have a feeling I might be making more trips back home from Va for more of those meatballs!!!! read more

Where should I begin? The house-made cavatelli or lasagna rolls? The pasta or antipasto salads? All amazing, but the meatballs? The meatballs are, "make you do a happy dance" good. So unique, with such a homemade-Sunday dinner with your family satisfying kind of flavor AND prepared by the families own brand of house made sauce. I've tried the Italian sandwich too and they cut the meats fresh for each sandwich and they don't skimp on the meats or amounts either. Another positive on this place; the food and presentation is pretty and for me, that's a big plus. I've never had one of their party trays of meats and cheeses, but have seen pictures of others who have used them to cater events and meetings. It looks like a work of art and I will for sure be getting one for our families Christmas get together. I haven't tried any of their gluten free options, but it's pretty cool that they offer them for those who have diet restrictions. Two big thumbs up over here. If you haven't checked out this Altoona gem, do yourself a favor and stop by. You'll smell the goodness before you even walk in the door. Last thing; the decor looks amazing.
