Made it to Tom & Joe's during a day trip to Altoona on a Saturday morning, and ordered the #9 which is two eggs, home fries, choice of toast, and scrapple or corned beef hash. I chose scrapple since I've been wanting to try that for a while. The food was good diner food, and really hard to mess up. The scrapple had a very slight pork flavor, and was very soft texture wise, nothing like a sausage patty. I've had goetta in Cincinnati, and in my opinion the goetta is a notch better than scrapple. The wheat toast was very generously slathered with butter and went really well with the rest of the food. There was a few minutes wait to be seated, but nothing bad at 10 in the morning on a weekend. There was a good size crowd inside with every table occupied. (I was solo and sat at the counter) If you're a fan of diners, or a local place that serves good food, Tom & Joe's fits the bill.

Greek omelet with home fries and rye toast

First visit to Altoona, and to this restaurant. My breakfast (Greek omelet and home fries) was excellent - lots of spinach in the omelet, and outstanding home fries. And the waitstaff are amazing, very attentive despite the place being very busy - my coffee cup runneth over!

Breakfast of 2 Eggs with Home Fries and Toast and endless coffee for $11.00. Very worth it! Highly recommended!

The food is wonderful, the service is great and it's a nice place to eat. It's small with an old fashioned diner atmosphere. You get a lot to eat for your money. Highly recommended.

Every employee was extremely friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was terrific!! Food was wonderful! Fun place, busy but so organized!

We were on a road trip thru Pennsylvania and stayed in Altoona. I researched for a good breakfast spot and found Tom and Joe's. This is a family owned restaurant owned and run by the descendants of Tom n Joe. Kimberly was our waitress and was the granddaughter of one of them ( I can't recall which one). We both ordered a scrambled egg breakfast with a pancake. One of the best breakfasts we've had. Everything was cooked to perfection and so tasty. Kimberly was a crack up and so nice. She seemed to know most of the customers. We spoke to some of the other customers as they heard we were here from California. Check out this place if you're ever in Altoona.

Food, service and atmosphere was fantastic! Excellent food! You definitely need to have an empty belly because I guarantee you'll be full when you leave!!

This place is a must go if in the Altoona area and you want an old school vibe and a traditional breakfast. It makes you feel at home, the food there is great. You can't go wrong with really any of the selections, it's nothing fancy. It's very basic and straightforward but done very well. Would recommend highly.

A small mug means your coffee won't get cold. No worries--they are quick to top it off!

We chose to eat outside in their beautiful garden, which made for the perfect setting. I ordered the Hawaiian-style poke bowl, and it was absolutely delicious! The portion was very generous, with plenty of fresh ahi tuna. One of the highlights of our visit was meeting a brother and sister who were also traveling from out of town. We ended up sharing a table and great conversation, which made the experience even more memorable. The service was excellent. We asked our server for a recommendation, and he suggested the poke bowl--and I'm so glad he did! Everyone in our group loved their meal. If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely return. I highly recommend The Knickerbocker!

But we decided to not spend more time for finding something else and stepped in. It was very charming, surprisingly well kept,of course old,but in a good way. Menu was intriguing, modern and seasonal, which I value the most. Waiter was engaging in our menu exploration and was knowledgeable. Now to the food.. cauliflower appetizer made as General Tso was one other best cauliflower in my entire life. Lightly fried, not mushy, but with exact chicken like texture in divine sauce, kicking spicy with sweet undertones. In the same way not overpowering to forget about cauliflower itself. A+ for that dish!!! Pirogi was a little doughy on my opinion, but taste was good. Asian bowl with salmon had great flavor profile: cabbage salad was beautiful and freshly crisp, carrots were marinated perfectly with slight vinegary flavors, bok choy was unbelievably delicious. I asked for medium salmon, mine was almost well done, but taste was good and rice in the middle wasn't sticky and flavorful, but had watery texture and was bland. Overall, this is an amazing festival of flavors and technically challenging menu. Bravo!!!

Similar to other locations, it has welcoming Americana theming throughout and signature blue tiles on the floor. We went with the cookies & cream and raspberry pistachio donuts. As opposed to my prior experience with Parlor Doughnuts where they were prepared fresh, this location seems to have prepped a supply earlier in the day with a selection on display available for purchase. Both were great donuts, but lacked the texture as you bit into them that I had with my prior experience that put the donuts in the "next level" category for me. They also didn't provide the signature donut boxes, as they simply handed us a bag when we asked for a to-go box.
