Wow! I know this does not happen often, but I was in and done before my second scheduled appointment. I had two test scheduled in the, Imaging Department. I was told to arrive at Check-In Desk in the main lobby at 7:15 AM. Being typical early me, I arrived at 6:50 AM. Checking in was smooth and easy. Once that was completed, I was given directions to the Imaging Department. Down the hall, passed a Starbucks, took the elevator down to the LL and down a short corridor to the Imaging check-in desk. Checked in at 7:00 AM. My first appointment was 7:45 and the next one was 8:30. My time in the waiting area was short. Thank goodness, I got my daily Wordle in three guesses. My first test was an UltraSound. The tech had a good bedside manner and explained to me what she was doing. When completed, she checked to see if they were ready for my next test. She came back and told me there would be a wait. She took me a new waiting area. I wasn't there long and my next tech came out and called my name. Barely got started on my Collections game. My second test was a Bone Scan. This tech was good, but her bedside manner was not as good as the previous. She never introduced herself and when she explained what she was doing, her tone was rough. This test was easy and completed quickly. Both test done and I was in my car leaving the parking lot, before my second test was even scheduled to begin. I call that a lucky day. If the second tech had a better bedside manner, I would have given them a 5 Star rating. read more

I recently had an unexpected trip to the ER. Even though there weren't a lot of people there, I was handled quickly and efficiently. Within 10 minutes, I knew why I was there. They were very professional. Nurses, the whole of the care team was awesome. I'm not recommending the Doctors only because I didn't see my Surgeon after my surgery! The ER Doctor was okay. I'm sure they usually have their hands full. On this night, they were very slow. I do think its emportant to meet with the patient after surgery or the next day. read more

My son was sent there in August he has schizophrenia and was a hard time having lost his sleep medication and in transition of changing meds. We just moved back here from Missouri where we had guardianship over his medical. We did this to protect him. Many times the mentally ill are released to the streets without any loved ones knowing because of the Hippa Laws. They didn't know if our guardianship was valid in Illinois. He was in the emergency room about a month. They said none of the psychiatric hospitals would take him because he also had an Asperger's diagnosis. My son has an associate degree and was on the deans list. So I petitioned the court to make sure I also had guardianship in Illinois. I intended to go to Gateway Hospital in Granite City to convince them in taking him . Their denial was based on him being on the spectrum and was actually illegal. The judge told me my guardianship should have been excepted in the first place. Before I could put my plan in motion Alton Memorial had him sign papers to go to Hart Grove Hospital in Chicago. None of these hospitals would take him because he was on the spectrum but they had him sign papers sending him 4 hours away without notifying us. He was in such bad shape he didn't know what he was signing. They sent him to Hartgrove Hospital in Chicago. That place was a nightmare from the beginning. I tried to call to talk to a nurse and check on him. They would not talk to me. I told the nurse I had Guardianship over his medical. The nurse said that medical not mental and hung up on me. Alton Memorial said they sent copies of my guardianship papers several times. I sent them several times. Each time I called these papers were not in his chart. I had to drive there with my sister and hand them the papers and insist they were out in his file.The only time you could visit was on Thursdays 6 to 8 pm. If he wanted to call it could only happen 12:pm or 8:30 pm. In the meantime they are changing his drugs every couple of days. Giving him shots to sleep. I asked about ECT. They didn't do it there but his doctor talked to another doctor who said it would benifits him. Only problem was the hospital that could do it would not take him. So after two months they said he was better. Sleeping though the night not delusional. They lied we went to pick him up my husband and I knew immediately this was going to be a long ride home. He was not is not better. If anything he is worse. So now after 3 months we are back at square one. All the places that are supposed to help don't. It boils down to this was a hard case that they didn't want to take on. So when you see the homeless mentality I'll people on the street keep this story in mind. See because of The Patient Rights Act that Reagan Started they can refuse treatment. The problem is this mentally ill people don't know they are mentally ill. When mentally ill people don't know they are ill, it is called anosognosia, a lack of insight or awareness of their condition. This is a symptom of serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and can make it difficult for them to seek or accept treatment. You have to petition the government to get treatment. For those who want less government get them out of the way of medical treatment. Get them out of the way of doctors and parents . Give these people back their lives. read more

Went for a Valium stress test. Checked into the front desk the senior citizen working gave us directions to the respiratory therapy department. I'm retired from 30 years in medical and told her I need the cardiac and vascular department close to radiology. I don't need RT. She proceeds to insist they are the same thing! So we go ahead and follow her wrong directions and that puts us outside our tea department. No one is around at 6:30 in the morning. The place is like a ghost town. Finally an employee comes in to work and she says I'll go get someone to help you out comes another woman. And she is not happy. She says to my daughter and I "if you could read" there is a waiting room right there take a seat and then she stumps off. The waiting room is labeled for new moms and infants. I knew we were in the wrong place. My daughter and I went and sat down for a minute to discuss what to do. My phone goes off from Emily the woman who's going to do my stress test. She says I see you've checked in, but I can't find you. I called her back and she sees we were given wrong directions and I told her what the other RT employee said to us about not being able to read. I'm not an uneducated hillbilly. We finally get to the correct department and I tell them I'm not having this test done until I talk to a supervisor. Keep in mind I'm there for a stress test. Well they are sure helping with my stress. We talked to Tyler the radiology supervisor and she is supposedly appalled. She says the RT supervisor will be told and I will be notified from her. Well, it's been three days and I have not heard from anyone. I will be contacting joint commission about this place. What an awful employee respiratory therapy is protecting ! And while I'm having the test done, my daughter is getting coffee at the coffee shop and she is on the phone telling my other daughter about giving the wrong directions. The woman from RT accusing us of not knowing how to read. And who is in line behind her the front desk supervisor. She apologizes to my daughter and said she just got told about the mixup when she got into work. She said I will be contacting your mother. So I was told I would have two supervisors call me and I have heard nothing where I retired from you could not behave like this. read more

I was at AMH for a mammogram today around 9:45 am. I had to wait for the 2 radiology clerks as they were helping other people. By 10:10 am I was all done! Mammogram tech was friendly and informative. What really got my attention, though, was the young lady clerk helping an elderly man. He had "just a little bit of juice" that morning and because of that he couldn't undergo whatever procedure he was scheduled for. The clerk was very nice without being condescending or rude; she offered to help him reschedule and was very patient with him. She's an asset to AMH! read more

I wanted to leave a review for the Human Motion Institute--I cannot say enough good things! My son has speech delay and sees Laura for speech once a week! She's a miracle worker. He also sees the Ocupational therapist, Carrie and loves her. I'll be getting physical therapy in a few weeks here and I'm excited for the results. read more

These idiots keep requiring masks even though the Cochrane Report states that masks do nothing to stop the spread of Covid. They try to force a mask on patients at entry, but if I don't wear one they get all weird, but say nothing. It feels like walking into a cult! It's a medical facility and as a patient unless I am sick I should not have to wear a mask. I have COPD and it makes breathing difficult. How stupid can a hospital get? My husband has been waiting for 6 hours to be seen and others who have arrived after us are still waiting as well. When you ask what the hold up is all you get is rude answers. This will be my first EVER BAD Review that I'm posting so please listen world! My Father is 90 years old, just had a procedure last Thursday that wasn't Successful! He just got Diagnosed with Cancer and we had to be at the ER for 10 hrs REALLY REALLY! And you say your buisness gives EXCELLENT Service, REALLY REALLY! As a Retired Marine I just also Retired from the VA Hospital and even the VA is Rated higher than 2 Stars! There's No URGENCY with the Staff at all, really Passive non aggressive attitudes like there's 48hrs in the day! Therefore you would get no Stars from me, the only reason you got one is because it wouldn't let me submit my Review without one Star! And I'll be talking to the Mayor of Alton about the lack of URGENCY this place has for 90 year old Patients! Terrible. The ER has misdiagnosed 3 family members, one died as a result. Another almost died as they failed to see he was in a medical emergency & instead sent him to a psych facility. The other they were told they were drunk when in fact it was a medication interaction. Spend an hour on hold to speak to someone at the ER just to have them forget about you. read more

We are rating our experience on 4/4/23. Went to ER for arm inflammation (swollen, hot, red, sore to touch) as it was getting worse after several days at home. (93 yo women). While the admitting staff and attending nurse (Devin) were absolutely great, the doctor (Dr Johnson) was the opposite. He seemingly had no interest in listening to a concern after the technician taking an echo sonogram of the arm took it in the wrong area (area not involved with complaint). When trying to tell the doctor this, who had returned and stood at the doorway with results/discharge information, he got short and would not take a moment to listen, and actually made some rude remark upon turning away and leaving (like how dare we question). So, we are left with anxiety as the arm continues to swell after discharge. read more

Painfully slow. My wife was brought in via ambulance for a seizure and dislocated her shoulder. 3 people in the waiting room and it still took an hour and a half just to be seen by anyone. Brought a family member in with chest pains, shortness of breath and numbness in hands. We have been waiting for over 2 hours and are still in the outer waiting room. Everyone is told to wear a mask upon entry but it is not enforced. So half of the waiting room is full of people with their masks under their damn chins, coughing and sneezing everywhere. WTF. The triage nurse was a HUGE BI*CH not only did I get into a wreck a few days ago I am also pregnant I asked them to check my levels and to also check out my back and neck pain she got an attitude the whole time form me asking her to have them check my levels and wouldn't drop it got an attitude because I waited two days to get seen when I explained the pain wasn't that bad and I knew they wouldn't do hardly anything if I just came in for my levels she got mad all over again not only that but she skipped over me after calling me name to go to the back to take someone else and then took them. And started talking crap to the receptionist about me because I asked to get my levels checked at least a simple little blood draw to check on the baby literally unprofessional and not only did she disrespect me she also disrespected other patients she needs a reality check or something read more

Alton Memorial Hospital I have spent way too much time in hospitals over the years, but none have been as bad as Alton Memorial. My Dad and I were both admitted the same day to the same floor. I spent 3 glorious days in Club Memorial. I did the work of the hospital taking care of my Dad since they could not be bothered. We gave him is respitory treatments because the tech always left the room. He also told us the hospital was too cheap to use medication that was easier and worked better. I watched my Dad deteriorate to the extent that we were taking him out AMA. I got released and put on a medication I was allergic to. But to beat all I got robbed! I was on the senior floor and someone that knew I was spending most of my time in my Dad's room robbed me. Since I was taken there by surprise I did not have time to empty my wallet so someone there did it for me. What kind of low life steals from senior citizens? For all of those out there considering what hospital to use, I suggest you NOT use this one. I realize that many of you may love this hospital. That is the way it works. I for one will avoid it like the plague and tell as many people as I can to do the same read more

What a terrible experience. I spent 5 days in Alton Memorial under the care of Rajikant K Patel. He tested me for every disease there is. Filled me with antibiotics. Told me at the end of my stay I was fine go home and contact my primary doctor in 3 days. 5 hours later I could not walk on my leg and I was as swollen as I was when I was admitted. 10 days later I had surgery on my knee. It was the problem the entire time. They drained 46cc of fluid of my knee in the hospital. But he never called in a orthopedic doctor. Now I am stuck with bills and he did nothing. I have been out of that hospital for 22 days and no one has called to see how I was doing. The hospital that did my surgery called me 2 days later to check on me. I will never use this hospital again. read more

I went to the hospital tonight because of acid reflux and blood in my sputem/vomit . I waited for several hours on a relatively easy night, no more than 6 patients. (i came in at 1 am.) I was finally put in a room at 445 am after horrible reflux ( worst I've had and I've had two ulcers), no pain management, no I'm sorry we are backed up, no hello from the actual nurse, For 3.5 hours. They slapped me in a room and closed the door, I sat in there for another five minutes, and even though i was still in pain, I knew I wasn't going to be uncomfortable at the hospital for another four hours waiting for the staff change. My throat is raw, my voice is raspy from the bile, but I will try to make it to an urgent care, or my gastroenterology doctor. These people won't help you unless you saw off your arm.Then, they will slap a telfa pad on it, and make you wait 8 hours till the shift change, when the head doctor is there. People go to the hospital when they are in pain, sick, or can't / shouldn't wait. In my case, i shouldn't have waited, because of my history. If im gonna be in pain , sick and vomiting, id rather be home. If it becomes worse I will have my husband drive me to St. Louis to be emitted, or go to another hospital here around Alton. Although the phlebotomist was pleasant, I wasn't feeling confident in the level of care provided. My recommendation is don't waste your time going somewhere where you won't be helped. If you need a bandaid, then I'm sure they will charge a fortune for it, and make you wait 8 hours. read more

I went to the hospital February 14th 2021 I had what felt like a sprain in my left side and throbbing and aching in left shoulder and neck also hurt when I breathed deep, This had been going on three days before I went to hospital, I did not have shortness of breath, They did exrays and other test that did not show up anything Dr. Sam Bailey was the Doctor then he ordered a d dimer blood test and mine was elevated 34 hundred and I believe normal is 400, so then Dr. Sam ordered a cat scan it showed blood clots in both lungs then another scan showed a clot in my left knee, so they admitted me and started treatment. I know Dr.Sam saved my life that day. Thank God he knew right what to do. I was in Intensive care for eight days, every one was very nice to me i could not of asked for any better care than I got. I went in for a kidney stone and they said I didn't have one. I got home and passed a kidney stone. Plus although the hospital itself was covered on my insurance, the doctor that they subcontracted wasn't and they left me stuck with a $500 bill that I wasn't expecting on top of my other bills for that visit. read more

I took my 4 Year old Son in Tonight because he was vomiting and had diarrhea and wouldn't eat or drink. When I arrived they took us back and got him a Xray on his abdomen and got results back quickly , The dr. told me there was nothing they could do because they didn't see anything wrong and I should go to st. louis childrens hospital to see a gastronologist. After he explained this i then asked him if he could atleast prescribe my son zofran (for his nausea) he did so. As we were walking out My son started getting sick in the hallway as they seen him they told me I needed to get my son back in the room ( obviously so no one else seen that they were sending a 4 year old home while they did nothing to help as he was getting sick), I went back in the room and contacted childrens as they couldnt believe either they were sending us home the RN came in with some zofran asking me why I was calling childrens when I was there I then explained that my son is very sick and dehydrated and you guys are doing nothing to help him and the guy smirked while telling us to have a good night. Very un professional . While there Moto should be to make sure a patient is better before sending them home , There Moto is to get patients in and out as quickly as possible no matter whats wrong.
