Ask the Community - Altosleep Clinic For Sleep Disorders

I was diagnosed to have sleep apnea years ago. Is there a way to diagnose me without the overnight sleep study?

Hello Jim, that is a very good question. In fact after Covid-19, Home Sleep Testing has become very popular amongst doctors and clinics. We do provide that service. you may call our number 650-967-8787 directly or email to contact@altosleep.com for… Read more

Warning - Dimitriu Will Call the Cops on You!…read more I was sitting in my house not bothering anyone or making any threats. I was not committing any crimes. I was not in danger. I was not bothering anyone else. This "doctor," Alex Dimitriu, called me at home and told me he was incarcerating me in a locked facility. I tried to talk to him to see what the problem was and address any concerns he might have. He arrogantly just told me "I'm not going to argue with you." The law was on my side and civil rights exist. I politely told this person that he technically could not legally do this to me. His response was to threaten to call the cops on me, weaponizing his medical license and the racial dynamics of the situation. Interacting with Alex Dimitriu left me feeling like the most helpless victim. He forced himself on me through "medical treatment" - involuntary incarceration. He spit on my right to due process - the one guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Alex Dimitriu treated me like three-fifths of a person. I have been diagnosed with PTSD as a result of Dimitriu's aggression. I have not felt safe since he ignored the law, stripped me of my rights, and traumatized me. The professional psychotherapist I consulted (who is licensed by the state of California) called Dimitriu's actions "a disgusting abuse of power." I suspect but can not prove that he tried to hide his actions and this review from you, the reader. I've had to rewrite it once. Stay safe - stay away from Dimitriu! - Former patient

I did my long intake interview, but I felt like they were trying to pigeon-hole me into a particular diagnosis without listening to me. When I asked Dr. Dimitriu to clarify why his team was so certain, he said there were really only three reasons why a person would have severe sleep problems, and the other two were ruled out. I was uncomfortable with this, so I stopped going. So, it turned out after bioidentical hormones (prescribed by my primary physician) finally made me feel better that I'm going through perimenopause. I wonder why that didn't make their list?

The Veterans…read moreAdministration wanted me to take a Sleep Study so they sent me to Bay City Sleep Clinic (VA Contractor) at 50 Oak Ln, Mountain View, CA 94040. Prior to my visit, I received several calls and emails going over what to expect. The person calling me was polite, friendly, and professional. I was told to call if I had any questions. I did check out some of the poorer reviews prior to my arrival and all I can say some of the issues were unbelievable. There were plenty of great ones also. So this review is based on my experience. I arrived at 9:30 PM for the overnight study. I noted how clean the office and bedrooms were. The linen on the beds were spotless. The restroom was really clean. I really liked the display of CPAP masks and the different styles. The air inside the building was fresh and clean, as if it was going through a high end filter. The decor was nice and welcoming. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the Sleep Tech, Mr. Janik, who was very friendly, gave me a lot of paperwork to fill out which asked how I felt (COVID) and my sleep habits. He was also working with a earlier customer. About the time I finished the paperwork, Mr. Janik was ready to assist me. He went over everything, covering the procedure and what to expect. He even covered restroom options, as I use it alot. The hook up of the wires and sensors went well. He answered more questions such as sleeping positions. The Sleep Study finally began. He told me he would wake me between 6:00-6:30 AM. The bed and pillows were super comfortable (I got to get me those), and the room was quiet. I had a touch lamp and the wires were routed so not to interfere with me. The only negative thing was the air temperature was a bit colder than I liked-but not unbearable. My sleep was very poor (reason I was there) but the night went fast. At 6:15 AM Mr. Janik woke me up, as promised. He disconnected me from the the wires and sensors, told me it went well-no issues on monitoring me or the Sleep Study (Yeah). I said my goodbyes and hopefully can use Bay City Clinic for future needs, if the VA will allow me. To me, my whole experience was perfect and worth 10 Stars, but Yelp only allows me to give 5 Stars.

The bed and pillows were so cozy, almost better than my own! My sleep technician was very knowledgeable, friendly and made me feel at ease throughout my experience. In my initial appointment, he was brusque, did not appear to believe me when I discussed my symptoms, and argued that I was wrong about how I felt. We had another follow-up scheduled but it got canceled due to COVID. It's been nine months now on the therapy and his office hasn't contacted me to do any more follow ups since the first one, and you can imagine how reluctant I am to contact his office again. As I approach the end of my insurance-mandated ten months of use of the therapy device, it's time to consider my options and find someone else to help me.

This momma was TIRED and needed time to get things done...or enjoy some time on the couch. I called Sleep Sisters and spoke with Melissa, I'm sure she heard desperation in my voice. It was my last resort (I'd read a few sleep books already), and she was so nice and helpful! She explained the science behind sleep and went over our current sleep schedule and routine. Melissa gave me a plan, complete with exact times and gave me some options as far as soothing my daughter. I loved that she left this part up to me to decide. She also helped me with starting to wean her, which I thought would be impossible. Turns out, it was pretty easy after all. Within a week, my baby started sleeping 12 hours a night (knock on wood) and will go down for naps with very brief crying. Sure, there are days that she will not nap - but she's still in her crib playing quietly. That NEVER happened before. I hope that in the next week, we will get her naps on par with our nights. But in the meantime? I'll enjoy it! Thank you so much Melissa. You saved me, seriously. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever consider a second child. There's now a glimmer of hope.

(Thanks again for taking time out of the holiday weekend just to talk to me!) I was desperate on the evening of July 3rd with my four month old baby going through sleep regression. I found Caroline through Yelp by searching for baby sleep consultants. I scheduled a free consulting call for the next morning through her site. Unfortunately, our timing didn't work out so I didn't end up using her as my sleep consultant - but she was so warm, easy to talk to, and genuinely cared about my situation. We talked for a good 15-20 minutes and she gave me some insights/tips at absolutely no charge.! You kickstarted my sleep training process and I am so much better now.

We used Caroline from the day we brought my daughter home from the hospital till she was around…read morefour months and derived so incredibly much value from that. I am a first-time mom, a former techie, older (42!) and single. Part of what I'm trying to communicate through that sentence is that I had extremely little experience caring for babies. What's more, I didn't really even know what I didn't know. That is, until I got to the hospital and had an emergency C-section for my two-weeks-past-due-date baby. The awesome part about getting a C-section is that you get four nights in the hospital. The best part about that is the team of nurses who are there to help you breast-feed your baby, soothe her, diaper her, swaddle her. Typically babies who are full-term, sleep pretty heavily the first couple of days. This can lull new parents into a false sense of security - "we got this!" Only to have the baby become fussy shortly after leaving the hospital (which is perfectly normal of course but part of what makes new parenting stressful)! Another benefit of C-sections is that you get to witness your baby after they've gone through this stage and are their fussy, wonderful selves! Newborn babies by and large fuss for at least an hour a day regardless of whether you are doing everything perfectly. Some babies fuss much more. Anyway, I had my daughter via emergency C-section on in early January 2016. On about day three or day four in the hospital, my daughter was fussing and fussing and nothing I was doing would soothe her. It was around then that I realized how little I knew about what I was doing. That's when I first reached out to Caroline who was - to my great good fortune - available. I hired her immediately, on the spot, after a brief phone conversation from my hospital bed. It was one of the best decisions I've made. Caroline is an expert in caring for newborns and brings a warm, soothing approach not only to your baby but to someone equally deserving of and needing such care and that is you. Because we had Caroline on our team, the first few months of my babies life or wonderful and incredible and emotional. They were not a nightmare, stressful or very anxiety-producing at all. Of course there were moments but far fewer of them and many more moments of joy because I had Caroline on my team. If you're thinking even a little bit of hiring her, do it. It will be one of the best things you've done for yourself and your new baby - providing support as you get to know one another.

We felt like we had all the information, but zero ability to actually apply it. We tried, but it just resulted in self doubt and guilt, wondering if we were doing the right thing. That's where Joanna changed everything. She cut through the noise and distilled it into a clear, actionable plan customized for our alert baby. From night one, it was like going into a high-pressure situation with a full tactical briefing--I knew exactly what to expect and how to respond. The biggest shift was the clarity. Instead of reacting emotionally to every cry, I finally understood the patterns. I could tell when he was settling versus when he actually needed us. That knowledge replaced my anxiety with confidence. Joanna provides a mind-blowing level of support and accessibility. We had every situation and question come up during the process including a fever and teething, but she worked with us to adjust the progression and maintain our momentum at every turn. Even with the fever speed bump, we were able to go from forced co-sleeping to full sleep independence in a matter of weeks, all while providing the support our baby needed. Now, our son sleeps through the night and naps independently. We have our lives back--quiet evenings, no wake anxiety, and the freedom to not be consumed by sleep math anymore. We had zero hope that independent sleep was possible. Even with every obstacle we thought we had, Joanna's process worked. Her methods and support are unmatched and are exactly what parents need to support their baby confidently through the sleep coaching process.
