As a recent grad during the pandemic, finding a job opportunity in Hawaii was proving to be difficult. I came across Altres initially because I had thought it was the actual company on Google Jobs looking to hire. But after snooping around their business website I found out it was a staffing company. I still applied and sent in my resume because I thought, "why not?" It was already difficult job hunting before graduation that I might as well get a helping hand instead of staying up late at night browsing through LinkedIn and Google. Lynn Hiyane was the one who helped me. We initially had a screening where she asked me questions about my professional goals. It was all done online through Zoom. Then, she sent me a posting for a company that I have actually tried applying for an internship in while I was still in college but their job opportunities section on their website always says "we are currently not looking", paraphrased. To my surprise, they were indeed actually looking to fill positions but I was never seeing their job postings on LinkedIn or Google Jobs or their company website. By chance, the first opportunity that was available was something I wanted. I said yes to the job description and Lynn arranged my meeting with the company and I was able to get the position which is in my field of study and didn't go through a transition period right after college. Through Altres I was able to reduce the demands of job hunting right before I graduated from college. Lynn has made it easy for me to look for opportunities on the island. Lynn, and Altres as a whole, knew open positions that weren't even going live on the internet. I truly believe that Altres has an edge with local companies trusting their recommendations that they are able to have an inside scoop within the Hawaii job market. They do respond quickly and try to place you HOWEVER if you've had any sort of permanent body modifications you'll have to have them removed of you want to work for/with them. Great people but the rigid dress code in today's society should be looked at, you lose amazing people by silly restrictions such as 2 earrings per ear. Maybe adjust to, keep extra piercings to simple pieces (such as mine). God forbid someone with a facial tattoo walks in, instant grounds for discrimination law suit. I can honestly say this is the first time an offer was taken back because of my earrings, sort of silly But hey if you've never had a tattoo or piercing of any kind, you'll get placed easy! I came to this establishment in hopes of being considered for employment or given some decent advice on the job market with absolutely no follow through. I came in to interview, test (even w/an MBA), as well as, had previous employers complete a long list of reference forms, only for ALTRES not to get back to me, not even to say that nothing was available or that they weren't interested. Why go through all the trouble? This is not the first time I've heard of this before. Completely inconsiderate and a complete waste of time. Would not recommend to anyone looking to be seriously considered/placed. Oh and in case you decide to leave a (again) completely legitimate review as a way of offering constructive criticism and feedback, be prepared for them to make lots of effort to try to have it removed. I worked alongside with Lisa, Shannon and Noe who offered me a temporary position to get some accounting experience. They have a good website, many good jobs where you can apply...however... I emailed my resume for 3 different jobs, the next day I visited their table at the Job Fair. The ALTRES Staff member talking to me was extremely unprofessional.
