I had the best experience opening a new checking account in Sun City, in the Vons grocery store. Solyda could not have been more helpful and efficient. She did everything, including issuing an ATM card before I left. What a thrill to get a local bank that isn't so big that you feel like you're in a line of cattle, waiting to be processed. They have a no fee ATM machine right there and ANY credit Union card can use it with no fees. I'm ordering a plastic statue of Solyda for my dashboard. She was great. read more

I came to this branch a few days ago for info about loans. SDCCU was my first stop but they didn't supply loans for used RV's. Altura does! I was a non member and they were still willing and able to assist me through the process. The branch got me started. Hugo M. the Assistant Branch Manager helped me out on both visits. The process was fairly simple and the loan officer Elodia assisted with that over emails/phone calls. Given the current economy, I was pleasantly surprised with the interest rate I was offered of 7.49%. They also did not bait-and-switch to a higher interest rate while finalizing the documents which I am very happy about. Absolutely incompetent company. We got a car loan through them, worse decision ever. They call once a month asking for proof of insurance, we send them proof (we send it exactly how they request it to be sent, with the "unique identification number" they're always stressing about). I give them the policy number, they find it in their system and always say we're not sure why it's not showing, but I see the policy for you. I ask for a confirmation letter, they say they'll send one and a month later, they call instead asking for the *!%? proof of insurance! Tonight they called after 8:00 at night asking for, you guessed it, proof of insurance. I asked her if she realized how late it was and she said they're allowed to call as late as 9:00 pm. WTF? How tf do I make this insanity stop?! I implore you, if you have other options, do NOT use this so called "credit union". read more

Horrible! I got a check in my husbands and my name, I deposited it through the ATM, they called the check a 3 party check? I offered for my husband to come in the bank with me, they said no we can't deposit it because he doesn't have an account, I have an account. They kept the check and are sending me some RDI Check that basically is my check scanned on to a check they are giving me from them, wait isn't that cashing the check? I am changing my direct deposit. You don't want to hear about the horrible customer service. I have had my accounts with Altura since the mid 1980's. I have recommended them to dozens of people. I have never had a problem until the last 3 or 4 years. I imagine people moving over from one of the big banks would be very happy, but I know them as they were before. My bill pay is a nightmare, accounts I have always had set up are now not. My mortgage says they are paid through bill pay by several banks, but Altura only sends checks to that lender and with what happened to the postal system, it has been late for 2 months now. I called about the problem and the girl hung up me. Today I went on mobile banking and it says I am not authorized to log OUT. I guess a credit union can get too big also, just like a bank. read more

Horrible place to bank. Reps over the phone are not professional at all, they made me feel as they didn't want to be bothered. Never been late on my car payments and yet they managed to place a late payment on my credit report. When calling they told me I must report it to the credit bureaus and then they will respond to it. Hey Altura, as a consumer we have the right to ask you to investigate and just don't brush it under the rug. Oh! Another thing, make sure you read the fine print when taking a car loan with this bank as they are entitled to repo after 45 days late on the loan. Good thing I still have my Wells Fargo account (23 years). The only reason I took a loan from this place was for the interest rate they gave me. Do yourself a favor and stay where you are at. I have gotten incorrect information more than once from Altura reps that cost me money. I was told that if I have pending charges I can transfer money from my savings to my checking the same day as the pending charges and the charges would be covered. Well I found out by having multiple courtesy pay fees that even if I transfer money in on time that first the pending charges go through than they apply my transfer. Isn't my money transfer immediate? And if a charge is still pending and I transfer money into my account shouldn't it be covered? I expect some Altura rep will respond to this complaint with a response from a script but, the fact still remains that my money transfer should be immediate and a pending charge is still pending. Aren't there any banks out there that don't pull stunts like this to make money? read more

I've had trouble with this bank since I first got a car loan through them. Every month they kept telling me I was late on my payment making me waste 15 dollars for a fucking fee to pay over the phone. Now I refinanced at a higher interest just so I never have to deal with this bank again. Spent 1 AND A HALF HOURS TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF THEM. AFTER 1 AND A HALF HOURS THE FUCKING CALL WAS HUNG UP! Went back after completing my automatic deposit from work and again I was greeted immediately with a smile. Why is it that every time I go into the bank it seems as though the tellers are too busy to help the people standing in line...the last time I went, there were 4 tellers behind the counter and they were only helping one person at a time. There was a lot of chatting going on but, very little work being done. Also, the auto loans were terrible.
