Except for Alvarez, who did a truly unprofessional job drywalling a corner of my kitchen where demolition had taken place. It's a given that drywall is expected to lead to walls that are level and have a uniform finish. My ceiling and walls ended up with seams, bulges, and surfaces that sloped. The drywaller I hired to repair this mess said it was "shameful" and the worst he'd seen. To top it off, Alverez tried to persuade me that his work was excellent and pressured me for payment in a way that made me uncomfortable. Most of the painters I tried to get quotes from for my project were either non responsive or did not bother to show up in person to give me an estimate after saying they would. Martin not only completed that project, but he also helped me pack a large house (was moving out of state) even though he had a big job he was working on every day outdoors (in 108 degree heat) that was far away. Over the course of a week or so, Martin would consistently come over to my house every day after working that big job. I had been contemplating the idea of painting the house for quite a while, so finally I decided and went on a search for painters. After a couple of quotes, I am very happy that chose Alvarez Painting and Drywall. Martin and son came the very next day to talk about my paint project. Martin took the time to take me through the details as I was asking for certain changes, and he even suggested and gave me ideas that I did not think of at that time, sort of reminding me of things to look for. Martin gave me a very competitive and affordable quote for my budget. He even mentioned the type of quality paint that he would use (other painters just gave the price). After accepting the project, we spoke about the paint variations and he came out while I was a work and provided some paint samples on the wall so as to be able to see the light effect on them. This was very helpful. After all the prep-work, powerwash and everythig that followed Martin began with the work that needed to be done. This is an aluminum and Vinyl siding house so there were a lot of open gaps right at the joints around the house from where cold/hot air would come in. Martin helped me in sealing those gaps and other holes around the house which would help with insulating the house as well. At the chimney, he did an excellent job; there was also an open gap between the wall and the chimney which he helped me seal before painting (this was previously reinforced underneath). While he was painting, he did an extra bonus for me, he helped me paint a side gate that I had previously installed and painted myself and needed a touchup, so now that all doors facing the street follow the same color scheme. Overall, I am very satisfied with the result and I am very happy that I chose Alvarez Painting and Drywall. We kept a lot of the same color scheme but yet making some changes as to provide this house a fresh look with a very simple classic color. Martin and crew were very professional, respectful and meticulous about their work, he listened to what I wanted to be done . They would take care of safety also as they work around the house , including what is left behind after a day's work to continue next day. I recently hired Mr. Alvarez to paint my bathroom. I spoke to different professionals who I called locally to get a quote. Mr. Alvarez was the only one not buzzy as other professionals we're occupied doing other jobs. Mr. Alvarez gave me a quote in person after I explained how I wanted the job. Mr. Alvarez told me in person not to worry that he will make it look nice. We agreed on a day at 9 a.m. to start. I woke up at 6 a.m. to get everything ready for Mr. Alvarez. I cleaned the walls in the bathroom and covered some areas with clear plastic drop cloths, like the ceiling fan, vent, bathroom sink, toilet, etc. Mr. Alvarez was 25 minutes late. After setting everything up, he started around 10:10 a.m. Mr. Alvarez scraped off the texture in the ceiling and added a new texture. You can tell some spots he ruined by pressing hard on his paintbrush on the texture which flattened the texture making it look just awful. That tells me the texture was still wet and not dry yet. If it was me, I would have used a spray gun not ruin the texture by using a paint brush. While Mr. Alvarez asked me in the middle of the job what I thought about his work. I pointed out some areas that he could redo because I was not satisfied with them. He told me okay and after walking away, slammed his ladder to get to the area he had to redo as if he was upset. Minutes later, he would ask me again about the same area that he read and I respectfully will point out small areas from the same area he read that did not look quite right. After 8 hours, we'll make it 10 hours of the bathroom not being occupied, and my family still need to use the restroom and take showers, Mr. Alvarez told me to review the bathroom and tell me what you think. At this point, I had family members tired of waiting and he had taken too long to paint a bathroom that was 5' x 9' which is a very small bathroom. I did not like the work, I just paid him and knew, I would have to go back and do it myself and paint over the areas he missed or did not paint well at all. I told him not to worry about cleaning because I figured he well just make a mess. I also noticed Mr Alvarez was cleaning his paintbrush in my bathroom sink and dropping caulk in the sink that he used. This man is awful at his job and missed a lot of areas that he did not paint well at all. It took me almost 3 hours to clean up his mess, had to clean my pipes for my sink. To redo his work and go over everything took me a week as I worked on the bathroom every day after work for a couple of minutes like 30 minutes this day, 40 minutes the other day and so on. I also had to replace the door hinges to the bathroom door after he forgot to do as well. It was a waste of money, and he did not care as I tried to ask him for some money back after I had to redo his work. I will not recommend Alvarez Painting and Drywall to anyone at all!!! There are professional painters out there who would have done a better job and completed the job in less than 8 hours for a bathroom that is very small. read more

Working with Martin was great. He came by the next afternoon and took a walk around the exterior of our house with me. I explained what I needed done. He completely understood my vision and got clarification from me on things I had forgotten or overlooked. He provided a reasonable estimate right away that included all materials and was able to take on my project within a few days. The prep work of sanding, scraping, taping and priming; the multiple coats on the trim; it all makes for an impeccable job. The house looks brand new and really pops. But I took a contract template from the web and put in the basics of what was going to be done and for how much and the payment schedule (half up front, half at the end). Should we paint the threshold? The awning? Same color as the walls or the trim? What shade for the concrete step? He had great advice at every step and the price didn't go up.
