Eh. The facility itself is nice as well as the office staff, but when I need an allergist again, I might go elsewhere. They should invest in some iPads because I was filling out paperwork for-eh-ver, multiple forms with repeated information. I felt I waited a long time even though I had the first AM appointment and only one other patient came in at that time. The nurse who weighed me and took my vitals was very sweet, and I liked her a lot. I saw Dr. Kucera, and I wasn't a fan. Between the time the nurse left, and when the doctor finally came in, more than a full hour passed when I was just sitting in a chair in the treatment room alone. I got an allergy test, which was fine and actually took very little time relative to the rest of my visit. Nothing came up for me, so I was given a printout on non-allergic rhinitis, prescribed a nasal spray, and scheduled for a follow-up appointment. My problem wasn't solved, and why am I going to continue seeing an allergist if I have no allergies? This place is probably fine if you know your issue or need allergy shots, but to be kept waiting that long by the doctor when she's not actually helping other patients isn't acceptable. read more

This is a pretty decent allergy clinic. The place itself used to be on Alvernon (hence the name), moved to Grant - the new facilities are very nice and new, full of light. You won't feel depressed in this place, which is a nice change from most medical clinics! I've seen Dr. Manthei once before and he really, really knows his stuff. He will get down to the nitty gritty with you, explaining why you have your allergies, how you can de-sensitize yourself if possible, and future treatment plans. My only real complaint is that while they do have a north Tucson location, Dr. Manthei is only there once a week, and getting an appointment with him there is all but impossible. Thus, I'm forced to drive 45 minutes into town to see him, kind of aggravating. read more

I want to thank Alvernon Allergy for doing everything they can to keep me safe at this time. Thank you for following through with mask wearing. I felt safe during my visit and went from being nervous to being calm. I felt taken care of. My father had a stroke last year and it's been a challenge with all the selfish, self proclaimed doctors not wearing masks or wearing them with their noses out. Masks are used for us to "keep our breath to ourselves," to slow the spread of this virus and keep others from getting sick. I suggest doing some research before making yourself look stupid regarding masks. Again, thank you for keeping others safe! read more

I think this place is top-notch, so much so that I drive down from Phoenix for my appointments with Dr. Schultz. He takes the time to understand my allergy issues specifically and has put together a plan that works really well for me. He is great at writing out specific instructions for follow-up and is always available by phone. I would definitely recommend Alvernon Allergy and, more specifically, Dr. Schultz. read more

The nurses giving the shots were very kind and competent. The problem I have comes in with the billing. We were patients for a year and insurance covered the shots. Then the type of shot was changed and were told insurance would cover it. 6 months later were were told that this was inaccurate and we were left with a huge bill. I could understand if this was after 6 weeks but they kept adding to the bill for months without informing us. When I asked what happened, they said they had a poor billing company that wasn't sending out bills but they have hired a new company now. Even though the mistake was on their end, we were the ones who had to pay the price. read more

Staff were all wonderful. Dr Kucera listened carefully to my history and explained well. I learned a lot from her even though I have had lifelong allegries and asthma, she cleared up misconceptions I had about allergies and treatment. The work up was very complete, I had pulmonary function testing, and some skin tests. The entire visit lasted 2.5 hours but there very little waiting, the nursing and testing team, and Dr Kucera all worked together very well and I was impressed by their efficiency. read more

I do not recommend this clinic. Here were my issues: - I waited over a month to get an appointment with Dr. Kucera. - After arriving and filling out paperwork, I waited +45 minutes to see the nurse and have my vitals checked. There was no one else in the lobby. - The nurse informed me that I should have taken photos of the condition--but none of the receptionists I scheduled with gave me this advice. - After the nurse took my vitals, I waited another 10-15 minutes for the doctor to come into the exam room. - Dr. Kucera was not a good listener and did not give a good exam. She did not seem to have reviewed my chart or admit forms at all before coming into the room. - The doctor seemed like she really wanted my reaction to be eczema, but the symptoms simply did not match. I had to be assertive in re-directing her to the facts, but she did not seem very interested in the symptoms I described. - Ultimately, the exam ended without any clear path forward. Dr. Kucera did not seem to want to do any further testing, so I left the appointment with $40 less, and no more information that I had when I arrived. Ultimately, this was a total waste of time. I do not recommend this office unless you want to throw your money and time away. A classic example of how broken our healthcare system is. You'd be better off with common sense and some judicious Googling about your symptoms. read more

I am very disappointed with the office staff. Their website directs you to contact your insurance company before your appointment so that you know what your patient portion will be. I did my due diligence and followed their directions. My insurance company contacted Alvernon Allergy & Asthma to obtain procedure codes and quoted me three different procedure codes which totaled around $160.00. Once I received my billing statement I was furious to see a balance of $471.97. I immediately called my insurance company to see why there was such a big difference. They did some research and one of the codes they quoted as $6.31 was billed at 52 units. My insurance company was not given that vital piece of information and I had no way of knowing they did not bill for the whole test. I then called Alvernon Allergy And Asthma and asked to speak to the Office Manager to see if there was anything that could be done. The Office Managerwas not apologetic and just said that it's $6.31 for each unit and that they do 52 units. I explained to her that I had no way of knowing that and that I was really frustrated because I followed their instructions and received a bill I did not expect. I told her that since it appears nothing can be done if they can at least train there staff to specify that they submit for 52 units @ $6.31. She said absolutely and that their staff assumes people know that. The doctor was really nice but unfortunately the billing ruined my experience. It's the principle and I feel the office manager should have at least pretended that she cared. read more

My boyfriend and I came in today for his bi monthly allergy shots and we were turned away. Someone had informed us that they would be giving out shots until 6:30 and we arrived at exactly 5:01. They turned us away and said it was "past 5" and there was nothing they could do about it, even tho there was clearly other people in the waiting room waiting to either receive their shots or waiting for the side effects to wear off. Now, he has to RESTART his ENTIRE treatment because the women upfront decided to go on a power trip... we will be looking for an alternate allergist while we are down here.. read more

I've been receiving my allergy injections there well over a year now and I have to say that all the allergy shot-givers there except for one is very professional with their mind set on getting their work done (giving shots) and keeping patients happy. The exception is a heavy-set dark-haired gal who seems to think her primary reason to be there is to socialize rather than getting her work done (no matter how many patients are waiting) - very unprofessional in my opinion. The reason I gave this review 1-star is that I feel Dr. Makol is also unprofessional in not wanting to receive feedback on this situation. read more

When I lived in Tucson this was my and my son's Allergist for YEARS. Dr. Manti was my allergist since I was a child (Im in my thirties now) so it was a no brainer once my kid developed allergies and needed a Doctor. Dr. Manti treated my son and I through our first years of immunatherapy treatment. When Dr. Manti FINALLY retired, we became patients of Dr. Min who was VERY attentive to my son's health. He often gave us samples of expensive medication and called on weekends to check in on my son's health. Dr. Min eventually moved away so we were seen briefly by Dr. Makol before we moved to Mesa and he was AWESOME. All this happened over a series of 22 years though. This office by no means has high turnover. The offices are amazing, the staff are SUPER friendly an helpful, and I've ALWAYS been able to be fit in whenever I needed to be or get a refill. I cant find the same level of service in Mesa yet. read more

I took my seven year old daughter to see Dr. Makol for her chronic stomach issues and frequent illnesses. I wasn't sure what to expect and have experienced both wonderful doctors in Tucson and ones who I had heard were great, but turned out to be awful. I want to say that our visit with Dr. Makol and his staff were one of the best doctor visits we have ever had. Dr. Makol has a wonderful bedside manner. He was thorough, professional, and seemed genuinely interested in helping us to discover the source of my daughter's issues. He is a great healthcare provider who checks he ego at the door and makes you feel like you are part of the mystery to be solved; that being properly diagnosing the issue. I felt listened to and respected. His entire staff are outstanding, truly top notch professionals and you can tell this this is an office where people are happy and treated well from the staff to patients. read more

DIDN'T DO ALLERGY TESTING/SHODDY OFFICE. Took my daughter for sinus pain in cheeks and over the eyes. Without even testing her for allergies (our insurance pays for full testing) they sent her to an eye specialist who wrongly diagnosed "blepharitis" due to a little crusty discharge in the morning which is normal for everyone. Since my teen daughter didn't think docs could make mistakes it took me months to convince her to get proper allergy testing. She's now being correctly treated for her many allergies including Mesquite which is prolific here and she's finally free from sinus/eye pain. For an allergist not to even test for allergies when facial sinus pain is a common symptom makes no sense.(?) One would think they'd at least want to bill our insurance for the testing, right? Doesn't make sense-I can only assume they "owed" their eye doc buddy a referral. It looks like others think enough of the office to post stars here even though the decor is sparse & shoddy with no magazines. Your outer office should reflect professionalism and that should've been our first clue but naturally would've overlooked if they'd at least tested her for allergies since they're, oh... I don't know... ALLERGISTS? I've since heard they're not well regarded in the community but I believe its up to other patients to post about poor care. Don't be intimidated. Medical professionals aren't perfect and we all know some better are than others. read more
