My review is just based on one visit. I hope I don't get anyone in trouble by saying this. But I really appreciated the fact that their receptionist squeezed me into an appointment that wasn't really available. I was in the middle of cancer treatment and I wanted to be seen sooner than later because I was concerned. Thankfully It turned out I didn't have anything serious. All the team including Dr. Lara were very nice. And if I ever I have to see an ENT doctor again, I will for sure choose this place. My appointment felt rushed and disorganized. I was checked in for the wrong reason, waited while they found someone to see me, and received only a brief exam. Dr. Thomas Kang and his office get a poor score from me for a variety of reasons. Kr. Kang was consistently unpleasant and not at all helpful the 2-3 times I saw him. The last time I was in his office I was told that I had to pay my entire deductible to them. This was before I saw Dr. Kang, so I had no idea what the charges would be. It was early in the year, and I had other claims that the deductible was being applied to. My credit is above 800. I always pay my bills, and I pay my bills on time. I left because that policy, even though Medicare allows it, was unethical and implied that they didn't trust that I would pay my bill. Doctors are no longer healers. They are simply businessmen or women, often unethical too. read more

I was referred here by my Primary Care doctor after discussing how I was experiencing ear pressure that simply wouldn't go away. However I was experiencing no ear pain, no fevers, etc.--my left ear just wouldn't stay stabilized. After a fully comprehensive hearing test performed here, and discussing what my direct issues were with the audiologist and the nurse practitioner, we boiled it down to the actual root causes: allergies and stress-induced jaw joint inflammation. I was thinking I tried every attempt in the books, and yet they steered me in the correct, new direction! It wasn't an ear issue, but allergies and my recent increase in teeth grinding (unintentionally too) that combined to cause the ear pressure. My husband noticed a white patch under his tongue and was anxious to get in to see an ENT doctor as soon as possible as he had a previous bout with tongue cancer. The staff at Sonoran Ear Nose and Throat recognized the urgency and fit us in immediately. We were so fortunate to be seen by Doctor Lara. He was professional and knowledgeable made sure we understood the procedure . We never felt rushed and he took time to answer all of our questions. and took his time to answer all of our questions. This is not a reflection of the Drs . I did not see them today. I made an appt had issues with my ear and wanted them checked out and cleaned. Amanda (receptionist)told me I could get in with the nurse practitioner. I scheduled appt. I have 2 insurances.I gave her my insurance info and she wanted copy of my husbands insurance . I just left my appt and what a fiasco. She said she could not reach my husbands ins. I told her to use mind or I could reschedule. She said no problem it would be a few minutes. I get called into exam room a girl walks in calls me by the wrong name. I told her no I was not that patient. Amanda walks in and states she reached my husbands ins and apparently there was confusion as to which was my primary insurance. This is same 2 insurances I've had over 4 years and never had an issue. She told me in this case they would not see me or I had to self pay. What???? Obviously I have 2 forms of insurance and one of them would have paid. Very disappointing....... read more

Avoid Sonoran Ear Nose & Throat. I saw Dr. Kang at Sonoran Ear Nose & Throat as a new patient. I paid my $65 copay at my appointment. Although my issue was chronic tension headaches, a hearing test was conducted as part of my appointment. What Sonoran ENT's staff failed to disclose to me was that the hearing test would be conducted by another doctor in the practice which would incur a separate charge to my health insurance and another copay for me. I did not request a hearing test nor did I want one. I certainly did not want to incur charges for unnecessary medical testing. It is a decidedly deceptive practice not to inform patients of all costs incurred prior to a scheduled appointment. A consumer of healthcare services should be able to make informed decisions. I was denied information that could have been easily provided. This patient won't be returning. read more

I had been having continuous issues with my ears becoming blocked since having Covid a year before. After numerous trips to urgent care, my doctors office to see several different P.A.,s and a nurse practitioner. I was then recommended to see a specialist ENT. I was seen by another ENT. It took over three months to be seen. Nothing changed after the visit. I was having blockages. My primary care doctor finally got me in on an emergency basis. So thankful Dr. Thomas Kang was able to fit me in and take care of the problem. I also had a follow up appointment. Great way to take care of people! I was very happy with the doctor and staff. Yes, they want to be paid, but so do I when a job is well done! read more

Love this place. I'd had ear issues for years before finding Dr Lara and I'm so glad I finally did. Years of vertigo, ear pain and tinnitus were resolved by this great guy who I've also always found to be pretty friendly and more than willing to explore different options and explain them well. He did surgery on my teen daughter and established a good rapport with her as well, did a great job complete with follow up. Love his front office. They're always friendly on the phone and in person. Billing once made a mistake in submitting a claim to an old insurer. Called them and they were very pleasant and fixed immediately. Okay, I totally get the mixed reviews. This place likes their money up front, so if you aren't used to that for a medical office I could see the bad reviews. Like in my case, I have met my deductible and now its co-insurance, and they already requested to have $79 up front. Even with that I am still giving them 5 stars as specialists are expensive! Ramona NP was AWESOME! If you have a deviated septum or any kind of breathing issue go see her, I came here to get a second opinion as the previous provider advised me to get surgery. Ramona was very kind and knowledgeable and showed me a scope of my nose which records and then they play it back for you real time. 99% of us are born with deviated septums and only surgery is needed if you cannot breath or the scope isn't able to pass through your nares. She recommended 4 options for me in terms of medications! The MA was very kind and you can tell they go above and beyond by their demeanor. Would highly recommend. My appointment ended before it started. When I made the appointment, there was nothing said to me about arriving early, and nothing was sent electronically as the majority of medical offices do so as I spoke to the person I was making the appointment with, I input the time of my appointment into my phone's calendar. The first problem I encountered was my own. I used the wrong navigation system and it took me up by Fleming's Steakhouse. I realized I was in the wrong place instantly (at this point I was 15 min early because I am always early) so I tried to call them to confirm where I should be going. Only voicemail answers giving you three selections. It tells you to press 2 if you are a patient, so I did, however the system would not respond to my pressing the number so I could not get through their computerized operator no matter what I did. I sped to the correct location, risking a ticket, arriving exactly at my appointment time. Upon entering, both receptionists were on the phone and one said "I will be with you in a minute". This was the second issue. Proper customer service would ask the person on the phone to hold while they helped the client in front of them. I waited. After five minutes, one was off the phone and I approached, apologizing profusely for my nav system leading me to the wrong place. Now comes the third issue. She picked up my file and asked if I was a new patient. I said yes. She said "you are supposed to arrive 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork". No apology for making me wait, no compassion for me obviously already being panicked about being late and, most importantly, when I said that no one told me to arrive early, she argued with me. I was done. Three strikes, you are out. Life is too short to do business with companies that cannot be human and provide professional customer service. read more

I'm so happy that I chose to visit Sonoran ENT. I'd met with my primary care doctor regarding some throat discomfort and he wasn't able to solve the issue. I met with Dr. Kang today and in about 30 minutes, he'd examined me, diagnosed me, referred me to a speech therapist, and even took the time to remove some excess ear wax. All of the staff were warm and welcoming. They were professional at all times and I felt like I was visiting close friends. They took care of my dual insurance billings and made future appointments. I have something wrong with my sinuses. These guys have referred me to an urgent care, when I was referred to them by and urgent care. My right cheek is puffy and I am getting giant chunks of gobbly yellow out of my nose. I am tired and this had been going on for 10 weeks. Do not waste your time at this Facility. They don't want to figure anything out. They surface check you. I rinse multiple times a day through my sinuses. They're not gonna see anything by sticking a camera where the rinses go. This place will take your money, then tell you your insurance won't pay for the next thing they need to do because they didn't find anything. Worst experience I have ever had. Go to a different ear, nose and throat doctor. I got better care in Hawaii at an urgent care where the guy was an retired military doctor. This happened once before. He gave me two rounds of amoxclav and when it didn't work he gave me clindamycin and it went away. It was bad enough then that he could see it though. And I don't have the type of insurance that dictates my care. They don't even look. They wrap you into their bias and blow you off. read more

I was diagnosed with an ear infection on 06/23/18 by a local care provider. I sought out additional information from Sonoran ENT as a confirmation that the ear infection was reacting to anitbiotics prescribed and that nothing else was wrong with my inner-ear. I clearly stated to the staff at Sonoran ENT that I have never had an ear infection as a child and that as an adult, I have no clue as to how an ear infection may impact my hearing, the duration of an ear infection, or what to expect from the healing process. On (06/27/18), Dr. Lara chose to remove cerumen (ear wax) he viewed with a binaural microscope using a procedure called, "micro suction." I have been dealing with tinnitus (ringing of the ears) and sensitivity to certain sounds ever since this procedure was performed. Up until the procedure, my ears were fine. At no time did Dr. Lara or the Sonoran ENT staff ever discuss the timeframe related to the healing process of an ear infection, nor did they ever discuss what to expect from an ear infection. Furthermore, no one ever discussed the potential harmful side effects of ear wax removal. Do yourself a favor and "Google" side effects of "micro suction" if you are so inclined. In speaking with two additional ENTs and nurses since the procedure, it was suggested that the advice given to me on 06/27/18 by Dr. Lara should have been to simply let the ear infection play out and then investigate other options if the antibiotics did not improve my situation. If Dr. Lara had any bed side manner or any understanding of ear infections, he would have taken the time to explain the ear infection healing process to me. Furthermore, he as a professional ENT would have not chosen to remove what little ear wax may have been present. Unfortunately for me, he did not. Dr. Lara may have performed an unnecessary procedure at the cost of not only my pocket book, but my enjoyment of life. I am still a young adult. I highly recommend seeing a different ENT. I also highly recommend not letting anyone use the "micro suction" procedure on you. This procedure may or may not be best for you. I am praying my ears will clear up soon. read more

This office is a delight on all levels. The staff is beyond excellent starting with Amanda at the front desk! I have never waited longer than five minutes! NOW at his is big!!! And Dr. Kang and Romona are attentive, informative and so comfortable to be with...YES another BIG gift!! My husband and I moved from CA last November to Corona de Tucson, and as an allergic person, I've been encountering all new pollen to my immune system since last March! So very sick from allergies for months. My PCP didn't help me, an allergist I consulted didn't help me. After two full months of laryngitis, I consulted with Ramona Toy, FNP (nurse practitioner) at Sonoran ENT due to their excellent Yelp reviews. I could not have received better, full focus from Ramona. She gave me a careful, full external exam as well as created a video as to what is going on inside my throat to cause my lengthy laryngitis. Showing me the video, Ramona advised me that my laryngitis is caused by bruising to my vocal cords and surrounding areas due to so much allergic coughing. Ramona prescribed 7 days of Medrol to get the inflammation under control, 7 days of Augmentin in case there is an infection present and prescribed an additional nasal spray b/c she said there is still too much mucus going down my throat to irritate my vocal cords. She also prescribed that I not speak for TWO WEEKS, total bed rest for my vocal cords. Ramona asked me to return in 3 weeks to ensure her treatment worked. This is my second visit with Dr. Kang and my first time at the Oro Valley location. I have been having almost daily nose bleeds for a month and he found the source immediately. Dr. Kang found a blood vessel that he cauterized. He was super gentle and went over it a few times to make sure it was properly sealed. He is very professional and a super nice Doctor! In my experience finding a specialist that takes time to listen to you and also has great bed side manner is not always a combination easy to find. I give Dr. Kang an A+! If I could Yelp myself and my basic understanding of health insurance rules and regulations, I'd give myself one star. But since I can't, I'll do what every other disgruntled ignorant person does and take my grievance to the Internet. My son has a specific developmental disability, and for that reason he is now covered by Arizona's Medicaid program through Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS), which we use as secondary insurance. His primary insurance has not changed. We've been seeing Dr. Lara going back to when he was at Carlson Ear Nose & Throat, and now at his new practice. When we tried to make an appointment to get my son a hearing test, we were informed that although they still take our primary insurance, they do not accept ALTCS. We offered to pay for whatever our primary insurance would not cover, but they still refused to see our son. We were happy with Dr. Lara. It's just a shame that he doesn't want to assist the severely disabled, the poor and the elderly...those who could use his services the most. read more

The worst experience I have ever had at a doctors office before. I have had tonsil stones for about a year now which results in me couching up blood, mucus, and tiny white rocks on the daily. I went to see the doctor here to talk about having my tonsils removed. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe how rude that doctor was to me. He was pretty much grilling me the entire time and acted like he didn't believe a word I said. Made me feel incredibly ignorant. Seriously asked me about ten times why I wanted my tonsils removed so badly....uhhhh because I would not like to be spitting up blood, mucus, and rocks anymore and he kept telling me that that isn't a good enough reason. I kid you not, he ended up laughing in my face and saying "well what do you want me to do about it?" I was at a lost for words and just walked out. read more

I see Dr. Kang, and my husband and son see Dr. Lara. You really can't go wrong with either doc! They are thorough, take time to investigate the real problem, and have good bedside manner. Dr. Lara removed tubes from my son's ears that were too big and had been placed by another local ENT. He was so sweet with him and really helped put us both at ease! I'm rounding up to 4 stars because my tonsillectomy surgery went very well, and I had a very mild recovery compared to everybody I've talked to despite being an adult at the time of surgery. Dr. Lara seems to know his stuff. I had to ask to get my tonsils out, and he initially said they didn't look that bad, but after surgery he agreed with me that they were horrible. I appreciated that he didn't want to jump straight to surgery, but I knew it was what I wanted. He was very efficient in visits (occasionally to the point where I felt my questions were dismissed), but overall I was satisfied with him as a doctor. The after-hours answering service they use is an annoyance. The front desk and billing staff were also frustrating to work with. They told me they had billed both my primary and secondary. I asked each time I went in, they told me they billed both. Turns out that was a lie, they only ever billed my primary, but I didn't have time to sort it out, so I ended up paying more out of pocket than I otherwise would have. The other frustrating part was the on-call doctors. After a tonsillectomy, they say to "call if you have a fever, call if you start bleeding, yada yada yada." So I called the on-call doctors a few times. Each time they were confused as to why I had called. "Well I have a fever of 104, the paper you gave me said to call..." "Well, I'm experiencing some bleeding, and the paper you gave me said to call..." All 3 times I called (for reasons stated on the paper), they told me not to worry about it. They were very dismissive. All of that being said, I was very pleased with the tonsillectomy itself. Very mild recovery in terms of pain (likely in part due to Dr. Lara's skill, and due in part to my staying hydrated and eating despite the pain). I haven't been sick since then, whereas before I had been getting sick every 2-3 weeks like clock work. Very happy with the results. read more

I was referred to Dr. Kang after I found a small mass on my neck. More than anything I was freaked out, because of course the first thing you think is "this is cancer". Dr. Kang and his staff were so great. I must have called them every day to see if my results were back and there was never a bit of annoyance - in fact, I was encouraged to call as many times as I wanted, because they said they understood how worried I was. Dr. Kang himself called me with my results about 10 minutes after they were sent over to his office. Thankfully, everything turned out to be fine. I can't recommend them enough. read more

I had three procedures with relatively complicated recoveries done by Dr. Kang all at once, and while the recovery was not a breeze, Dr. Kang and the nurses were so incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and compassionate through the recovery period that I couldn't believe it.
