I called down to reception, phones were old and couldn't hear on the other end. They said that the batteries might be dead. (This is a wiring issue) They sent someone up and told me that they didn't have any other dehumidifiers nor any other rooms for me to switch to and immediately left. Since I was traveling with my children, all of these issues were both health and safety issues. I decided to go next door to the Holiday Inn (highly recommend). I return to cancel my stay and a different gentlemen offered me some other rooms. I was told that they couldn't make a decision on anything until the manager returned. The next day, I received this incoherent and ignorant attempt at an apology. "HELLO, I Apologize for the inconvenience you have at la quinta inn & suites Alvin tx. we already process refund for 2nd night for both room attached receipt .we do have head housekeeper who check room after housekeeping clean rooms to make sure everything is good in room light not working when we check it work but sometimes bulb out or other mantiece issue so we can't fix right away and about humidifier one room have and one room not so is not required by brand to be in room but we have it in some room after your complaint to front desk front desk offer you to switch room but you denied so we can't do anything for first night refund but we already process refund for 2nd night you should have it in your account now.we can offer you for inconvenience 1000 bonus point to your wyndham account for both rooms total 2000 point." Stay here if you need something cheap but don't expect much. If you want to be comfortable, try Holiday Inn next door.

I chose Alvin on a recent Texas coast trip. Kinda half way in between Houston and Galveston. Had…read morethe entire family with me; hoping to get Rooster some beach time. For those who follow me, he's about to be a teenager! I started my yelp run when he as 1 year old! Breaking news about the area! Beer and wine is available; liquor you have to travel back east a bit into another county. Reminds me of my home turf years ago; we've been wet since 2003. Most other basics are covered like a pharmacy and Kroger nearby. Check in was pleasant. Rooms were clean. My AC was on while my mom's room wasn't. So, after check in we headed to Dot Coffee Shop for some afternoon snacks. Kiddo had some pool time when we returned and we called it a night. Breakfast was included which we took advantage of the next morning. Some items may have been absent because of covid; me having a waffle and some orange juice. Oh yeah, it's my birthday! We head for Galveston for some beach time on Seawall. We then head over to T-Bone Tom's in Kemah for my birthday lunch. Steak and shrimp! We decided to part ways dropping grandma and Rooster back at the hotel; girlfriend and I head into Houston for some shopping. Heading back we grab one of my fave desserts togo from Whiskey Cake. We meet poolside and headed into the lobby to share the desserts. Gruff and not friendly gentleman behind the counter. Basically, he tells us the lobby is closed due to covid. Sends us back outside into an approaching thunderstorm with lightning. We ate in the exact same space that morning. OVERKILL, this guys needs some serious customer service skills. Our party was also more than 20 feet away from the front desk. AND, our group was the only occupants in the space. Decent visit kinda ruined on my birthday. Would probably stay elsewhere next time

My review of this place is pretty mixed. All in all, it wasn't a bad stay. We like to cut corners…read moreon travel by staying in lower end places like this, so my expectations aren't super high. The bed was the best part of our room here. King size, wonderful mattress, plentiful sturdy pillows and a fabulous night's sleep. It was also very dark in the room which was great. The breakfast here was a lot better than some cheaper lodging. They had a pretty big variety of stuff on offer and nice big tables if you wanted to eat in the lodge/office area. I grabbed a tasty berry instant oatmeal bowl, ripe banana, and surprisingly good coffee as we were leaving. That was aces. The exterior of the hotel is really nice looking for an America's Best Value Inn. In its previous life it must have been a slightly fancier chain inn. Everything seemed clean in our room - until I picked up some of my folded clothing that I'd put down on the in-room desk and it had spicy smelling cheese stuck on it. Not a little bit, either. Enough that I would need to bag and wash it immediately after returning home from vacation. Oh, and the only thing we ate in the room was a cup of yogurt so it definitely was not from me or my husband. Gross! The worst issue however was the "handicapped shower" because the lip on it was purely decorative and nearly flat. I understand it can't be very tall or a person using a wheelchair would be unable to access the shower. But it did absolutely nothing to keep the shower water from running out all over the bathroom floor and around the toilet. I was careful, tried to aim the shower spray at the inner wall hoping it would go down the drain, and still, the entire floor was basically flooded. The shower curtain was about 2 inches higher than the bottom of the shower as well, so it wasn't helpful in keeping excess water in the right area. What a mess, and the drain in the middle of the floor didn't seem to help matters since it wasn't enough water to flow toward it, just puddles. Luckily we had flip flops on hand, so we could still use the restroom until it dried out. At least the shower had plentiful hot water and good pressure. I was going to give this place 4 stars in spite of the problems, but then I recalled that it was also slightly more expensive than other accommodations on a weeklong trip and it was definitely not the best by a long shot. So three stars it is. Don't get the disability-accessible room unless you actually need it, would be my best advice (and maybe not even then).

I have stayed loyally at this hotel since about December of 2020. Everyone there was generally very…read morekind. They didn't have many guests which made it easier for me to have a peaceful visit. Even though some would say that there had been seedy characters on site, nobody bothered me. Everyone kept to themselves. The rooms were not as updated as they could be; the staff is not given proper supplies for thorough cleaning here which is disappointing and not the cleaning staff's fault. There has been black mold on some of the framed pictures. Over-all, this hotel has been just fine for what I need. However, I take a very dim view of this place concerning my experience there during the winter storm emergency. I was staying for a week when the storm struck. The hotel's power went out Sunday night. The water began freezing up as well. After making it through Sunday and Monday (the coldest night) nights, I went downstairs to the front desk to inquire what was going on with the hotel's situation. I wanted to stay another week because of the state of emergency and merely asked that Kent at the hotel work with me on pricing. Kent refused to work with me and explained that, when the power came back on, I'd be charged for the days when the power was out. He made no attempt at discounting my stay in a hotel without power for heat or water during the emergency and blamed the power company. That's pretty disgusting business. It takes a special kind of person to profit from some else' misfortune. Why would I pay to stay in a place with no amenities when I could do that anywhere else without power or water for no cost? In spite of the situation, I vacated the hotel without anywhere designated to go.
