Very clean, the host was very nice!! The suite was almost perfect! At night I could hear a child running thru the hall! As soon as I was almost asleep at about 11 the fire alarm goes off. Every one was standing outside their room. No communication then finally security says someone pulled the alarm and they are walking Artois to figure out which one. Took a while before they got them off then kids running in the halls and upstairs again. Long night for me, but other than that the suites are beautiful, clean, great view. This is our first night. If I can rate this trash hole a zero star I would!!!! There's roaches!!!!! Worst 2 nights of sleep I had in my entire life! The hotel is dirty crumbs under the sofas, next to the beds. there's broken stuff the tv sucks no good picture quality. The tv had nothing to watch no channels. I felt incredibly unsafe, as groups of men stood around staring at people walking by. To make matters worse, the noise from the nearby Exxon station and Popeyes was nonstop and unbearable. Horrible Stay. When we first get to the hotel room, it seems fine. We have all of the essentials. Most of the dishes were dusty but didn't think much of it. It had a good view of the ocean and not a good view of the pool. 2nd. Day. In. The refrigerator goes out. We contact the owner, he says "We'll be here tonight or tomorrow morning,". This place is pretty great for beach access, a decent view and plenty of space. I stayed here May 20-22 and it wasn't terrible, but it was not as great as I thought, if you're getting a unit from the onsite staff. That's important because not all units can be treated the same even with the same layout. Main bed was lumpy and had poly sheets that slept hot (even with the A/C on 68-70). The A/C seemed old and which I could tell didn't have a dehumidifier function. This is important because of the location and you can tell when it was cold, even if either the patio or front door open was open for a few seconds, it made it unbearable humidity inside and took forever to cool back down. I was on the 3rd floor so I can see that some A/C units on the roof looked newer than other so this is likely not an issue units better renovated. Also we only got a thin kitchen rag and a wash cloth, plus a small bottle of dish soap. This wasn't terrible but if you plan on doing all your cooking in the room like I did, bring your own sponge and maybe a better dish cloth. Doing dishes so our housekeepers didn't have to was hard with what was provided. Additionally most of the included dishware and cooking pots/pans were cheap as heck. The pan I used was leaky and double pained with water stuck between the two so putting it on the stove expect there to be some steam from that. Yikes. If you want to use your own streaming device or laptop, make sure to bring your own HDMI cord. WiFi is free thankfully. Onsite DirecTV is sparse but better than nothing. Overall for the value of the price I paid and what was there, it wasn't bad. But it was far from good or what I expected. read more

We stayed two nights in April. We loved the suite, location, pool and the reasonable price. It was very clean. The kitchenette was well stocked. The bed was very comfortable. The location is great, near restaurants and close to a crosswalk so it's easy to get to the beach. The pool was gorgeous. The only complaint we had was the excessive leaf blowing in the pool area on Wednesday morning. I'm not sure why that was necessary. There weren't any leaves. It was an okay experience. The front office of Casa Del Mar were extremely rude and did not help us get settled in. I guess since our condo was not officially part of their suites, they treat us like trash. We booked through "A Stay Above The Rest" private condos. All they were concerned with was charging us $30 for parking. Okay, whatever. The lady also kept saying I should have gotten an access code but I checked up and down through my emails and could not find anything. We could not enter our rooms without this code so I ended up calling the contact person under the condo and she got my information and said to give her a minute. Then I got the email with the code but this was over an hour after check-in time (roughly 5 pm), which is considered late. She apologized. But for us newcomers this was HIGHLY confusing and frustrating to also deal with the Casa Del Mar rude staff. The rooms themselves were quite nice. There were burn marks on the wall next to the stove because it is so close to the wall. The couch pulled out into a bed. The balcony was nice where we could faintly see the beach from afar. The pool was nice from 3 to 5 feet deep. My family had a blast swimming there the next afternoon before it got too busy. You can hear them partying and playing music right up until 10 pm and they shut down the pool thank goodness. Otherwise i'm not sure anyone would get to sleep. Overall, an okay stay but I don't think i'll be back due to the complications and stress it put on my family. read more

It is very dated and there is nothing modern about this hotel but I wouldn't say it was run down persay. They had brass keys, the door knobs are different on everydolor. If I were going to cook and get groceries this would have been a better fit since they have all the amenities for that but I was hoping to spoil myself and relax so it just wasn't the best fit for what I was looking for. We ordered Ubereats but it took an hour to get delivered because of how far off the hotel is from everything. The service was alright. No one was unwelcoming and no one was really welcoming. They just really went thru the motions of checking you in and out. They didn't really go the extra mile and focus was lacking on the hospitality aspect of the day to day. Perhaps in the future for a family trip I would stay here again in the future. The research we did on the hotel before booking didn't really seem to be in line with our experience here. Stayed here for a weekend. We asked for a room that sleeps 6 adults. We were not in a room that sleeps 6 adults. But my crew could get over that, we made it work. However, we found bugs. Called the front desk, they said they would look into it. Never heard back. If you stay here, you are only allotted two parking spots per room. Ok. So we had to move two of our cars. Even though the big parking spots fit two cars each and they had plenty of empty spots that could be utilized. We were harassed several times by the parking attendants as to whether or not we had parking permits. While I was at the pool I was asked if I had a parking permit. When we got back from dinner and were walking back to the room, we were stopped and asked about parking permits. The parking attendant was extremely rude every time. When we called the front office to ask for them to stop harassing us about the parking permits, the girl in the front office said it was their job. It is not their job to ask me 10 times(not an exaggeration) in one day about a parking permit. The pools were dirty. Water was super murky. I'd rather swim in the Galveston water. Do not stay here, the staff is rude and make you extremely uncomfortable. read more

Great location with easy access to the beach and a quick drive from the Strand. That's my positive note. Room was dated and tiny. No icemaker. Had coffeemaker but didn't provide coffee filters. Mismatched dishes. You weren't allowed to turn the AC below 70, which left us very hot most of the time in the living room. Sleeper sofa was impossible to sleep in because the bars were sticking in my ribs. Pool was tiny, dirty and oddly hot in the middle of summer. I found the rental contract the off site management company required to be extremely annoying, felt like I was signing my life away on staying in a castle- not a trashy little beach motel. Also found it annoying that I had to check in off site. If a mainstream hotel or motel had availability at the same price, I'd recommend booking that. read more

Let me start by stating that the staff in the office deserves 5 stars, but I would give the room -1. The staff was great. They were helpful and professional and refunded my money after a sleepless night. After I pointed out some of the problems, the staff said they would use our experience as a teaching tool for housekeeping. I hope they follow through so I won't get into that. I'm writing this review to list the good and bad points of the room so that hopefully more changes are made. 1. The hotel is in a great location. It's just a right turn off the main highway as you come into galveston and it's close to all of the activities. If you eat at buffets, it's next door to those types of places. 2. Security was visible the entire time. 3. Parking was convenient and there were lighted spaces. 4. The view from the angled room was nice. We could see a pier and past the sewall. 5. The room ad said it sleeps 5 or 6, but I would say 2 and possibly 2 children. The bed in the room is small and 1 person has to sleep against the wall. The bunk beds were too short for us and the pullout couch was old and the mattress was stained. Nobody wanted to sleep on it, but my mom offered to try it and my daughter and I crammed into the bed. 6. While the living room was dark and quiet for Mom, the curtain in the bedroom was to a hallway window. Lights stay on in the hallways all night and light shined through both sides of the curtain, making the room very bright. Also, because our heads were on the hallway wall, until 3 am we heard girls running down the hallway screaming. We didn't sleep and I had driven for 14 hours, including a short stop in austin. My suggestions as a tired traveler would be to clean the room, paying attention to walls and corners, do something with the windows in the bedrooms to block out the lights, sound proof the hallways to cut down the noise, replace the old sofa beds. If the hotel would make those changes, I would return. read more

Get out your crystal ball... This hotel has a really miserly cancelation policy. So many hotels all around will gladly refund you within 2, 3, 4, days prior to your stay. If you book with them, and have to cancel up to 30 days before your stay, you're still in it for paying 30% of the price you pay. If you have to cancel less than 30 days before your stay, YOU WON'T GET A REFUND. A lot of things can come up in 30 days' time. I canceled with a B&B in Houston at the same time and there was no problem getting a full refund. Keep in mind that I canceled with over 3 weeks until our scheduled stay. If you book here, be prepared to lose money automatically if you have to cancel. That, coupled with an apparently really expensive parking policy, and 'dated' buildings really means that Ryson Vacation Rentals (the proprietor of Casa del Mar) does not have the customer's concerns in mind and is only driven by avarice for making a buck. By the reviews in general I saw, many were satisfied with their stay, but do you want to even start your booking on that kind of a risk that you'll only lose in this deal if something comes up? Nah. Pass up Casa del Mar and Ryson Vacation Rentals, there are hotels all around that DO appreciate that life happens. These guys? Not so much. read more

I understand all the bad reviews and am a little confused here. I rented this condo from a very nice lady who told me she had just purchased it. It had been completely cleaned with fresh linens, nicely put together kitchen and all the comforts of home. We felt and were treated like guests. There was no maid service, we kept up our condo ourselves. There was an abundance of towels and clean linens if needed. The staff was always around doing something, the front office was helpful, the location was just great, the air conditioning was a blessing. I don't think we could have done better. We are very happy with our experience. We rented the condo through VRBO (homeway.com) and the unit we got was listing #418726. I never would do this type of recommendation if I wasn't sure you would have the same experience as we had. We scored a AirBnB at this location however they also have rooms to rent out. Our condo was absolutely lovely and fully furnished with the cutest beach furniture. Awesome view of the beach and you can post up on the balcony with a beverage and do some people watching on the seawall. The space itself was perfect for me and a girlfriend so great for a girl's weekend or couples trip. Plenty of parking but beware if you are coming in late at night as lots of spots are usually taken. If you want a nice central location next to all of the restaurants and bars this is for sure your spot. Also not too far from Moody Gardens or Schlitterbahn. read more

And spoke to Melissa,The night management. Melissa stated she didn't know what the charge was and refused To cancel the charge. She said she would email Robert Bice., a manager, We have spoken to Robert Bice twice He states thAt me and my wife burned a table In the room. Despite my husbands explanation that he is a 65 year Old heart patient and does not smoke. And that HIs 58 year old disabled wife also does not smoke. Robert Bice insisted that the charges for Burning the table are valid and is going to remove 402.50 From our credit card I tried getting a hold of Teresa Elliot , the General Manager. She won't return. Phone calls I think we were scammed and had fraudulent charges Added to our bill. Update: I spoke to Teresa Elliot, General Manager, she promised to cancel the 402.50 charge Still waiting for this to happen. I suppose if I were short, deaf and blind with no palate this would be a great place to stay. But since I'm not (ok, I'm blind, but science comes to the rescue)... Wow, a wonderful view of the Exxon or the Golden Corral, depending on which building you get. Or if you're really lucky, you can get an interior room with a view of the parking lot! I think the building was last updated...let's see...when did they build it? 1975? Yeah, the rooms are "suite-style." All 280 square feet of it. I've had larger bathrooms. Putting a large bed into the closet...err, bedroom...just accentuates how little space there is. And who's idea was it to encase the mattress in rubber? Granted, this has nothing to do with the complex, since we rented our room from a condo owner, but are they renting by the hour? Catering to senior citizens with bladder problems? It was so much fun hearing balloon noises every time either of us would move. Oh, and the rubber really breathes. And the fitted sheet doesn't slip at all, nosiree. Which might have been true had you used a fitted sheet instead of an oversized regular sheet. Yes, we were across from the beach. The part where they apparently leave all the bulldozed kelp, and where anyone at least 100 lbs overweight gets a free beach pass from the state of Texas. Because that's all that's there: kelp and bulbous flesh. Nice restaurant choices: chains that serve food in troughs (hey...they know their audience) and McDonald's. Oh, and one Mexican restaurant that showed promise, until we realized that they, too, know their audience. "Yes sir. Everything is fried, comes with cheese, and has had all the flavor zoned out. But there's a lot of it. Would you like another mediocre margarita?" Your internet provider SUCKS! I pay $16.00 for weekly access? How about calling it weakly access? Daily it kicked me off. Once I called tech support (where I got some slacker dude who's too cool for school). The rest of the time I just logged on and off until I got some semblance of a connection. No, it ain't the Ritz alright. Maybe a ritz cracker. By the way, who put the herd of elephants above us? And who was the asshole that parked behind us and blocked us in? I guess when you stay in the Myrtle Beach section of Galveston you're going to get the Myrtle Beach crowd, so other hotels & condos in this area are probably very similar. Methinks we'll be staying on the west end of the island in the future. 2 stars instead of one because the staff was gosh-darn friendly and happy. read more

Since Ike, the bottom 2 floors have been completely redone, down to the drywall. Everything downstairs is fresh. Negatives: The furniture is uncomfortable. The building is old and it shows. The TV is crap. BUT, this is where we always stay when we go to Galveston. It's nothing fancy, but neither am I. It foots the bill. Which is mostly so that I can have a place to sleep separate from my kids, a shower to get all that icky sand off, and a fridge to store all those pesky snacks for the boys. read more

Location - great. Parking - ok. Front desk staff - nice except on one occasion. Rooms - more staph than a correctional facility. Not kidding at all: the maids were annoyed at us for wanting them to clean the room. Which explains why the rooms smell the way the do...although you think its just the ocean across the street...LOL My big gripe here -- Housekeeping wants to throw towels at you and make you sign a disclaimer saying "By taking this towel and bar of soap you agree to the fact that was have cleaned your room you friggen tourist" or something to that effect. Bottom line, the beds smelled like feet and the kitchenette / front room area never really look vacuumed or even swept for that matter. It is a small space (easy to clean), so I actually called the front desk to complain about it and the guy I spoke seemed indifferent. There are a ton of places on the Sea Wall to stay....for the next trip I take my family, we will be staying somewhere else. read more

Not familiar with other rentals on the Seawall, but this one was ok. Location is good - 61st street and Seawall. The balcony in room 261 has view of the Gulf. Kitchen has good sized refridgerator, microwave, stove top and oven. The decor is typical of oceanside hotels. Adirondak chairs on balcony are nice. Bunk beds are for short people only. Sheets and comforter are scratchy. Queen bed is comfy, but air vent in bedroom pushes air right onto sleeper. Bathroom is decent, and shower water pressure/temp is great! The reviews are accurate here. The staff working here is the highlight of the property as is the location. It goes downhill from there. The rooms are smaller than you expect, I like the suite concept where a family with a few kids (3) in our case can spread out a little. The hide a bed and bunk beds were very uncomfortable as was the master queen bed which is pushed up against the wall on one side (gross) and all the bed spreads look like they are from the mid 90s. I get that the place is on the beach and it's hard to keep dry, but our room had a prominent musky odor. The internet ws fast on day one, went out on day two and 3, there were people in the office complaining. This place was pretty busy and the 2 small pools filled up quickly. Lightning hit right next to our pool and scared the crap out of all of us, we immediately hopped out of the pool and maintenance shut both pools down. If you can find a deal here, it's not bad but I felt like we could have had a better room for what we paid elsewhere on the seawall. read more

Checking in, I asked if I will owe anymore since I prepaid with a groupon. I even asked about the tax and they said I already paid it. Checking out, they charged me tax. I'm sure I paid it up front. Next, they put us in a room that faced 61st street and has traffic on it at all hours of the night. You would think that they would put people who use a groupon in one of the other 1000 rooms that are away from the horrible traffic noise. Don't you want us to come back without a groupon? Lastly, the mattress was so soft that our backs starting hurting almost immediately. Combine that with the traffic noise and you can imagine how much rest we got ! Mixed experience. Cleanliness is probably the only issue. There was a cockroach crawling on my bed the first night, so the place offered to waive the $20 or $15 room transfer fee when I went to a different room the next night. They did not give me a refund. In fact, I was charged more for the next room. The second night, the sheet on the pull-out couch had trash on it and little stains. The bedding had small yellow circular stains. Other than the lack of cleanliness, I would say that it is worth the price. There is a heated pool, a regular pool, and a hot tub. The rooms come with every necessity and comfort you can think of (microwave, utensils, cable tv, extra blankets). The bunk beds, pull out couch, and the bed were all comfortable to sleep on. And a living room with a sofa queen bed. kitchen complete with stove, utensils, pans and pots, microwave, toaster, sink, and oven. Restroom came with blow dryer, soap and shampoos and towels. It also came with a great view of the beach! Heated pool. Do i have to say anymore? We went on our spring break where it was 60 degrees out so it was great having that heated pool. It felt great! The people at the front desk was so helpful. Great with makntenance. The tv at the room was not working and we called it up, instead of waiting for it to be fixed the next day or telling us they can't do much about it, they got someone within 10 minutes to come up and check it out and got it working. Good location, balcony with great view, and a helpful staff. The place has built-in bunk beds, a queen bed in a small private room, and a sofa bed, so comfortably sleeps two adults and three kids. The kitchenette is tiny but we managed to cook simple meals like hot breakfast and spaghetti as well as make cold sandwiches. The place is a little older and it shows, but is well-maintained. My only complaints are that the toilet clogged on our checkout morning, and the seaweed odor was horrendous. If you can get this for under $140/night in summer, it's well worth it. read more

Our first visit to Galveston Tx, my Son's wife found this place and I am very pleased! We're a group of six and was able to get a suite. Suite is some what smaller than I imagined but it was okay for one night! Right across the street from the ocean, walking distance.
