Vacationing in the Panhandle for many years, I am quite familiar with the Alvin's Island stores, so I knew I would have to swing through to pick up a few t-shirts for the fam back home. This Alvin's is located adjacent to the Loews Hotel and is overwhelming in size and inventory. Hundreds of shelves spanning the store filled with shirts, sweatshirts, bathing suits, towels, hats, etc...lining the walls is where all the tchotchkes are housed. Pricing is hit and miss, but shirts are buy 3 get 1, and with most shirts being $12 - $16, that isn't a bad deal. They have snacks up front and several other random items. Service is non-existent, even at the register honestly. They were not rude, they just didn't engage at all. As mentioned above, the store is super overwhelming and can become a bit much when more than a few people are on any given aisle. I was able to get what I needed, so I'm thankful for the short walk and nice haul. read more

They sell a lot of varieties of souvenirs like clothing, home decor, plates, ref magnets, key chains, and a lot more. Alvins is a cool tourist shop with tons of Miami themed souvenirs. Lots and lots of t-shirts, hats, sandals, key chains, bracelets, and much more. Its alot going on in this store. Its a pretty big store but the aisles are a little tight. So get in where you fit in. The shirts were about $13 and they had deals on buying multiple. I sincerely was a little overwhelmed. My daughter has to buy every family member souvenirs everywhere she goes, me i was like I'm saving this money to eat something off the chain and I'll send pics of that as a souvenir. We're just different. Lol. But she found some cute stuff. A few t-shirts and bracelets. This is certainly a store to stop by for the experience if your looking for tourist stuff. Tourist trap extraordinaire! They have everything you don't need for a low low price. They have cute Miami Beach themed items as well as anything that you forgot. If you take a little one in here, your wallet will still have some heft to it once they are done shopping. The staff is kind and available for immediate check out. First and foremost, God forbid you ask for help from their staff while they're sipping their espressos. Please note, they were on duty, not break, and if looks could kill, I wouldn't be writing this review right now. I obviously put them out when I asked for help. Wouldn't it be nice to get paid to drink espresso. Secondly, I bought a pair of swimshorts for my 16-yr old son and once he jumped in the water we quickly saw that they were see-through. We asked to return them and they said we couldn't because they were used and wet. Duh?! That's how we learned they were see-through. The see-through look may be acceptable for some, but not a modest teenage boy. On top of refusing to return them, they were rude. While souvenir shopping, we wandered into Alvin's Island. It was Monday, December 10th around 10:30pm. The roommate and I had already bought our souvenirs, but we wanted to bring home his nephews some tshirts. (Sometimes it's fun finding cheap shirts with sayings on them for the kids.) We found a toddler shirt that said "Crabby but Cute" in both of their sizes, so we decided to buy two. The price tag said $7.99 each, but we paid $7.50 each, so not sure if there's a discount for two? If so, that's not much of one, but I'll still take it! The store has a wide variety of tshirts, so if you're looking for a souvenir shirt, I'd suggest looking here first. I bought my souvenire tshirt from another store for far more than they charge here. Came into Alvin's on our trip to south beach for some fun T-shirts etc. Found that the prices were pretty great and lots to choose from. I love the new yellow Miami hoodie and was half the cost of the neighboring surf shops. My review though is more intended to comment on the staff. I lost my sunglasses in the store and all the staff was very helpful in my search. The security guard took me to the manager and the manager sat with me to review the cameras to find where I left them. After 20 mins of tracing my steps we found that I left them in the dressing room and the person after me must have found them (but did not turn them into the staff). I did not get them back sadly but I was treated with so much care and had the comfort of knowing what happened that day. And I do really love my yellow hoodie. This is the store I will gladly do my shopping in anytime I'm in Miami. Thanks to the staff and wonderful manager. read more

Expensive cheap swimsuits (well, the bikinis do appear larger than what you'd typically see on South Beach). There are some saving graces, though. Location, obviously. And if you're looking for a t-shirt or a swimsuit, there's a large selection. And the music was mostly salsa, with a bit of merengue and bachata thrown in. I guess you could go here if you're looking for a trinket to take back home. But I'd think you can find something better if you just walk west a few blocks. read more

It was nice to be able to rent beach cruisers while on vacation. -1 star because I was bummed out they didn't have any baskets so I had to tie everything to the bike handles. Good spot for beach gear and souvenirs. However...When buying tshirts, be sure to check for stains, spots and dust. The place is HUGE and I doubt that items get moved around and refolded on a regular basis. I had to rummage through several tshirts before finding one without a stain. Pros- nice selection of Florida souvenirs. Cons- RUDE employees acting "put out" with any questions customers had. Gals at cash registers should just go home if they don't want to work there. They seemed more concerned thinking that people were there to rip them off at any moment, treating paying customers like suspects! Really? Nice place to get some gifts from Miami. Prices could be little bit expensive but that is understood because of the high rent in south beach. There was absolutely no parking spaces and i had to spin around the store for half an hour before finding one. I broke my chancleta crossing the road so this spot was literally the only thing within walking distance that didn't require a fancy shoe purchase. Growing up in Miami allowed me to somehow appreciate these tourist traps yet still be embarrassed to enter. I always say this place is a solid choice did last minute goods. Plus, you gotta get that tacky south beach souvenir to showcase your visit to Miami. It's located on the eastern tip of Lincoln Road so it's adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton. Even a quick swim suit here is a reliable and quick resolution to the whole "I left my bathing suit at home and don't feel like battling traffic" ordeal. It wraps the corner and is loaded with knickknacks to rep the 305. It's inexpensive but almost necessary for the tourists in town needing an unexpected beach towel or sunscreen. Sure, there's plenty of stops along the strip but this name is known to supply one of the most varied supplies on all things SoBe. read more

Do not buy from the place! I normally do not write negative reviews, but this place tops the cake. Worse customer service experience ever. For a place that relies on tourism, this place doesn't want our business. The two employees who tended to the dressing room didn't seem to care to help us at all. They seemed lazy, bored and honestly seemed like they didn't want to be there. The employees at the cashier was the same experience. We paid for the merchandise and they didn't acknowledge us, and simply were not very friendly. I hate to think there's racism involved here because we were Asians. To management: Please evaluate who you have working as your employees as they represent your business and the reputation of your business. They seem to be there for a paycheck and nothing more. I'm a sucker for beachy gear and souvenirs, so Alvin's Island has always been a fave of mine. They're on every corner in Panama City Beach, so I was happy to find one here in Mia. Yes, they're touristy, yes, they have a lot of cheap crap and tacky duds (flourescent man briefs anyone?). BUT, they also have tons of cute stuff and the prices are pretty good. And this location is HUGE - a massive selection of flip flops, dresses, bathing suits, souvenirs of all kinds, etc. etc. I found an adorable pair of Reefs here I couldn't even find online. Great place to buy some souvenirs or gifts for your friends and family. They are open 24/7 however it is almost impossible to park around so be prepared to walk. Prices are high and the staff is really rude. They do not care about customers as 9 out of 10 are tourists! Employees perfectly know that they can act as jerks, management does not care too. They should better learn the sense of customer service and being respectful / tactful. The image of Miami Beach they give to visitors is just unacceptable. read more

Semi-decent selection, but way overpriced, tough to find a good fitting bikini for a medium/large bust on a skinny size 3/4 girl, and the Haitian fitting room attendant was rude AF. She glared at me, didn't speak or respond at all to inquiries or say a word in reply to "please" and "thanks," and rudely looked at my chest when I said I couldn't find a good fit. This place is an awful place to shop. The employees were so rude I almost did not want to purchase the items we did but it was our last day in Florida and we were in a rush. The employees don't even acknowledge you or ask you if you need help with anything. Majority of the girls had attitudes and when they were checking us out, she kept rolling her eyes and didn't even say anything to us. Lady by the dressing room was rude too. the staff here is quite possibly the rudest staff i've ever encountered. i wanted to purchase a lighter for my dad for father's day and when i tried to test it to make sure it worked i was yelled at from across the store to not "play with the lighters".
