Two little tiny stars for this enormous tourist trap of necessary and unnecessary garbage. This fairly large size gift shop clearly has no issue whatsoever with foot traffic... As it is located very close to a Publix and in the same shopping center as a Walgreens. It's run of the mill tourist garb and the prices are decent however the shop is notoriously short staffed and there is Zero customer service available. Literally one employee in the entire store and they were working the cash register with 18 people in line. I quietly sat my stuff down to leave the line and escape only to receive laser beams of disapproval shooting from the employees eyes. Victoria, Alvin's employee, has to be the most rudest, filthy mouth (used G--d---) during a return/exchange transaction, "mad at the world" person I have ever had an encounter with. She is a poor representation for the store. Walked in went directly to the counter with a shirt I had previously purchased 5-6 days ago (too small) asked if it could be exchanged. Went to look for another shirt but unfortunately they did not have a size up and not able to find anything else. Went back up to the counter Victoria stated I thought you had left. I told Victoria they did not have a size up on the floor so if I could get a refund. Victoria is fine until I presented the receipt and then suddenly while she takes care of the return she ask out the blue "are you mad at me" "I don't know why you would be mad at me" I responded "uhhhh...ma'am no one is mad at you" then she says "I have to keep the original receipt" which had other purchases on it "do you need a copy" I stated "yes" she stated "well if you weren't mad at me before you will be mad at me now, because the system does not have a good way to find an old transaction and I have to go all the way back to the day of purchase and look through each days transaction" She proceeded to do look for the transaction and must have messed up looking for it she spouted out G--d-----. read more

Buyer Beware They have quite the selection but do not buy anything on clearance UNLESS you know that you are not returning the item. I made a purchase of an item with a " sale " type tag on it. NO WHERE in the store did it state that these items were non returnable. It is only stated in the fine print ( on receipt ) AFTER you made the purchase. Every year we visit Longboat Key I stop in to Alvin's on St. Armand's Circle to buy new flip flops. This trip, it was a pleasant surprise to see the store had been renovated since our last visit two years ago. The exterior has been updated and the interior is much easier to browse now. They offer a wide variety of cute Sarasota / Longboat Key / Lido Beach t-shirts and sweatshirts with original designs at very affordable prices. This is the most affordable place on the island. They have super cool stuff, mainly shirts. I've gone here every year for 4 years now. If no one's in there it's cause it's 8pm bro, and they're in the back making shirts for YOU. Can't staff 10 people at 8pm in an off season. Lol just yell "help". If I were able to give "0" stars I most certainly would. This was by FAR the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered. We were in the store maybe 30 minutes collectively: browsing, attempting to hunt down any employee, then spent close to 15 minutes in line (as there was only one cashier). Upon getting to the counter, the woman ringing us up met us with an almost hostile attitude and went to ring up the items and one children's dress did not have a tag. She then proceeded to scoff, sighed, and rolled her eyes saying, "no tag. Need tag". I asked if she needed me to grab a new one quickly. Instead of offering assistance, she began to mumble under her breath, cursed at us in Spanish, and shoved my sisters items to the side and proceeded to call the next guest and began to ring them up. Needless to say, after being treated with such a blatant disrespect, we took our business elsewhere. I then returned to the store to speak with a manager about the event. He informed me then that he was on break and he had to end it early because someone was "causing trouble" up front (clearly implying me). Also, informed me that there had been 7 employees on staff- which was upsetting because we had hunted the store for a single employee with a question. He ended our encounter by telling me that he was done talking to me and I could call his supervisor and/or corporate and could do what I wanted and that he didn't care. I have managed in this industry for many years now and have truly never seen anything like this. A genuine apology for the experience would have been sufficient, but the managers customer service skills are just as poor as his cashiers. Shame on you all for putting these individuals in charge of your operation. If you don't understand, or can't work with people, you should probably find a new line of work. read more

Terrible customer service. I recently purchased beach chairs from the Ana Maria location and tried to return them the following day when I learned my wife also purchased them for the family by accident. The manager was rude and said no returns, no way. I explained that we have come to the store many times over the years, The chairs have never been used, still fully tagged and have my receipt and his response too bad the computers are locked. One of the worst shopping experiences ever. I understand this is a souvenir store. With hundreds of tourists passing through the doors each day. But, the young lady putting away the water shoes and flip flops (little after 9pm Thursday 6/20) needs to remember if tourists are not spending their money in the store the store can not remain open. Locals will not be flocking in to buy a "Anna Maria" t-shirt or hat. She needs a major attitude adjustment. If she was my employee she would be fired for shaking her head and rolling her eyes at ANY customer. Absolutely childish! Horrible! My worst customer experience ever. Bought some walking shorts (not a swimsuit) and took them home. They didn't fit and I went back the nest day to exchange for a different size. I was told by the cashier I had to come back in 10 minutes because she was busy counting the cash register. After that she told me that if I didn't have a receipt that there are no exchanges. I explained that I was not given a receipt but that I did pay by debit card and the purchase could be tracked that way. She had absolutely no interest in that much work. She was willing to take the merchandise back but not refund my money. I didn't wish to do that so I took the merchandise outside and hung it outside the store and wrote "free" on the bag. It was $27 wasted. at that store. The lady I encountered the first day appeared high on a stimulant and unconcerned with the customers. The lady I encountered the second day was very rude, impatient and acted as if I was inconveniencing her. It is unbelievable to me that a store can stay open with people who are so hostile and rude and clearly not supervised. I would not suggest shopping here. My family purchased 10 t-shirts for a family photo on our last day of vacation at a cost of over $80. The two children's shirts logos were cracked and peeling before we put them on. Took them back and they would only give us 2 more, but assured us these should be fine - just a glitch in the process. We got the photo, but by the time we arrived home, all of the t-shirts were cracked and peeling. I called and the only thing they would do was let me mail the t-shirts back (which I was willing to do) AND send another box with it as well as pay the postage for another set of shirts. I'm not a fan of throwing good money after bad! I tried calling the Chamber of Commerce, but, of course, a business such as this is not a member of a community organization. They were sympathetic but could not help. Poor quality (and that is saying a lot since I was expecting tourist quality not anything special) and they don't stand behind what they sell.
