We are a board and care facility in Palm Desert, Astoria Care Homes, and have been working with Bonnie / Always Best Care for some time now. They provide In-Home Care, finding caregivers, as well as placement into facilities. I was referred to Always Best Care through the Veterans Administration. My first introduction was with Chelsea. She was so sweet and understanding. She was patient as I asked many questions. When I finished she said she knew the perfect fit for me. I told herr I was nervous with having a stranger coming over. I was in crisis mode to find help for in-home service when Always Best Care Senior Services was recommended. The operations manager responded immediately with a most caring, well beyond professional, manner. Completely unprofessional. We hired Always Best Care after my parents' health started to decline and my 88 year old father had an unplanned surgery in 2017. Bonnie sent a care giver who had a personality disorder. Things seemed to go well at first and then it became apparent that the care giver enjoyed working with my mom yet had a dislike of my father. The care giver started to report to Bonnie and Brittany fabrications of my father's behavior. Seeing that the care giving relationship was declining, they did nothing to intervene or replace the care giver. Instead, Brittany would send elaborate emails to my brothers and myself telling us to fix my father's behavior. I live 2.5 hours away and was visiting and staying with my parents every weekend and then took days off work to try to help the situation. I was fearful that if the caregiver's reports were true, my father was suffering an illness. Every time I visited I never observed the behaviors that the caregiver was reporting and I gave a full report of what I experienced to Brittany. After the care giver was placed with my parents, Bonnie never contacted my parents or visited them to see how things were going. My parents would have told Bonnie that they experienced the care giver as intrusive and controlling. There was no follow-up after Bonnie's first visit. They never asked for my parents' feedback. They kept sending the same care giver who obviously had a problems working with my father. The care giver ended up quitting on the spot. The agency did not call my parents to tell them what happened. They left it up to my brothers and myself to inform them that their caregiver was not coming back. My mother was shocked. She didn't understand what had happened. They did not offer a replacement. This is patient abandonment. Always Best Care ended up filing an Adult Protective Services report against my father regarding the care giver's fabrications. I am fully aware of reporting laws as I am a mandated reporter myself. The APS worker found nothing to substantiate the caregiver's claims. The APS worker suggested that we go with another agency. The stress this put on our family during the last 6 months of my father's life was extraordinary. A few months after the care giver quit, she started calling my parents to be hired independently. I would never recommend this agency to anyone. read more

Always Best Care has been my saving grace over the last week. My grandfather was brought home for hospice care this week and we scrambled to find some help for him and my grandmother, who is in the early stages of dementia. She has been fairly unreasonable through this process and downright mean at times, but Norma has been so accommodating and the staff have been so much more patient then anyone should have to be. My grandmother has yelled and screamed and Norma has stayed calm and caring and done everything possible to make sure everyone is taken care of and safe. While we probably won't continue services for long, because my grandmother is hellbent on getting her own help, I would recommend this company 10 times over. Their ability to work with patients in the hardest of mental states it unmatched. There is no way to thank them enough. read more

She arranged for care as I needed promptly, coordinated with the facility and always kept me informed. My father was very pleased with the attendants that came to care for him on overnight 12 hour shifts after surgery. The lack of communication with family members is why I give 2 stars. They never notified me of any issues with my dad. He had an injury to his arm requiring bandaging and I was never notified. During this very stressful time, we found her and Brett to be kind, considerate, and very understanding of our and his needs as well as, our concerns and questions. After the first phone call, we met with her and within hours my father was assessed and a suitable place for his care was found. In addition, we were given resource for more potential help. I liked ABC and the caregivers they provided. They gave good care to our mom which is the most important thing. The reason for the lower rating will become evident in this review. I write it more out of trying to help others avoid the mistakes we made when hiring caregivers, and providing oversight to the care they provided. There were several issues that came up as you would expect from an emotionally-charged situation. But I'll only focus on one here since I think it's more informative as to how the business is run, and therefore better guidance for a potential consumer. We were supposed to be informed of something directly related to our mother's care and to the care-giving being provided. We were not informed, and the reason given by ABC was that the care-givers had not followed established ABC procedures in informing ABC. These things happen but the problem is that it resulted in an additional payment of several hundred dollars which we would have avoided had we been informed as proscribed by their own internal protocols. I asked that we be given a "good faith adjustment" to our bill since they had made the mistake resulting in additional charges. I stated a full refund of the additional charges wasn't expected but an amount determined by them to acknowledge their mistake in protocol. After our mom passed, ABC said they had investigated the matter, and though they acknowledged they had made the mistake, that since it had been handled "professionally", no adjustment to the final bill would be made. We hoped the experience with ABC would have been better. It wasn't bad but as you can tell from what I wrote, it wasn't as good as it could have been. Very disappointed that the matter was ultimately handled the way it was. read more

Just as Covid 19 began and we entered into quarantine, my 91 year old Dad became ill. On March 11 he entered the hospital for the first time in his life, and neither my sister , who lives out of state, or myself could be with him. He went to a skilled nursing place, then back to hospital and we began a crazy time of trying to manage things and help him long distance. When he was released from skilled nursing again, we were referred to Always Best Care. Thank God! Norma reassured me they would be US and do what was needed. They helped me arrange a medical transport, coordinated to have a caregiver there when he got home, went to clean out his refrigerator, went grocery shopping, etc. They did so many things above and beyond! He entered the hospital again and then hospice, and Norma and her team were right there every step. My dad called Norma his nurse and although she is not a nurse we knew who he meant. He adored his day time caregiver Alicia and would not be happy on her day off until she came back. She gave him such reassurance. On top of all this, they were available for MANY MANY calls each day, I thank God for them. Dad passed April 16,2020 and our hearts were lightened a bit because of the treatment that our entire family received from Always Best. Thank you!! read more

This company "Always best care senior services" doesn't even deserve a star. Their staff does not perform their job duties consistent with all the provisions that are stated in the contract. These caregivers are unreliable, they do not handle patients in a professional manner. In addition, they are not clean. While trying to cook a meal my mom notice their hands where dirty which resulted in mom getting sick? These caregivers are required to stay until there relief comes, however, these caregivers at always Best care left my mom alone on various occasions. The caregivers run late, leave before their relief comes. Which resulted leaving my mom alone? Which is unbelievable? What's really outrageous is that one caregiver ran out on my mom calling her crazy because my mom asks her to clean her bathroom. This caregiver didn't think my mom was crazy when my mom offered her gifts such as a dresses & costume jewelry, which they are not supposed to except. In addition to Bonnie Zwack told us that we would have to pay for the caregiver meals when we went out to eat. You as a client, do not have to provide anything for the caregiver. No relief came for five hours; which speaks for itself. I was told by The Owner herself Bonne Zwack that she felt that the caregiver had to leave my mom alone because they could not handle my mother. This shows lack of commonsense, and incompetence. How do you leave a person in need? This is 101, you never leave a client alone, that's why we hired a caregivers in the fist place. The results was my mom was alone. These caregivers are not trained correctly. They can really put somebody life in danger. This falls solely on the owner Bonnie Zwack & her management team. The shocking issues are, they leave my mom alone for 4 to 5 hours. This company leaves my mom alone. When they finally came, I called Bonnie the owner and told her after this shift I do don't want their services anymore, we moved on with another company. (they are awesome they ever have nurses visit which is a great perk ). In retaliation Bonnie Zwack calls social services, stating my mom should not be alone? Is this a joke? There the ones that left my mom alone for 5 hours and they found that ok. In addition, there is a language barrier. I read some of their reports and followed up on what they wrote and the fact of what really happened. Many reports were fabricated once they realized we did not want their services anymore. This is absolute slander. These aids are not qualified; apparently, they could not handle my mother appropriately. So they just leave her. . I highly recommend not to use "always best care in palm desert CA" if you want your family or friends to be safe. read more

Excellent interview with owner David Robinson prior to hiring, outlining philosophy of care and history. Nurse assigned, Beth Rathbone, professional, competent, responsive. She assigned two care givers to me for in-home care after 4 weeks in Rehab Unit, Newbridge Senior Center, Dedham. One (four days a week) I would give all the stars in the book: she took initiative, listened, learned the house and the patient; always eager to move on to the next chore or event; totally reliable. The other perfectly okay if given specific tasks; however took no initiative herself. Whenever there was "down time," was on her cell phone. The time and energy spent on managing her was not helpful, so cancelled after two weeks. For a bed-ridden invalid, could be fine; for convalescent needing re-entry post-illness, expansion of ADLs, not helpful. Not a good match. No problem with cancelling, however, which was good. Beth an excellent case manager once contacted. We would return to the company in a shot. read more

Inexperienced caregivers with the exception of only one (Ashley) who was stellar in every way. Their caregivers lacked common sense by leaving my medicated mother alone in shower and in the bathroom three separate times. Blanca did not give my mom 2.5 ml of morphine, but 5 mg in error. She also did not exhibit common sense when thermostat was at 90 degrees and could not understand why house was at 90 degrees and not cooling. Upon my arrival, I told her to close the windows. Maria on two separate occasions left my mom in the bathroom after she had been medicated. Maria also left the building to go and get her cell phone charger from her car at 12:30 a.m. She was unable to gain access back into the building and called the night manager. Had he not let her back in, my mother would not have had a caregiver until morning. Another caregiver named Nova was obese and struggled with her breathing. She went down the hall and threw towels in the washer only to leave them overnight. When the Home Aide came to bathe my mom, towels were no where to be found. Nova on Oct. 1st did not call to let me know my mom declined this morning and could no longer swallow. I did not learn about my mother's decline until 10:30 a.m. The Hospice nurse asked Nova why she had not contacted me to let me know and Nova fabricated a reason to cover her error. As soon as I learned of my mom's decline, I went to her home. Upon arriving, Nova was not with my mother, but sitting in the living room leaving my mom awake, unable to move and alone in her bedroom. I asked Nova why she was not in with my mom. Nova put my mom's robe back in the closet wet and left saturated laundry in the laundry basket to mold. Nova was always hot so she adjusted a/c for her comfort and not my moms. Incontinence rashes were ignored by Nova. When I questioned Nova if she was aware my mother had a severe rash in her groin area and up her back, her response was, "I wondered why she was itching throughout the day." She made no attempt to call hospice or me regarding the matter. Nova was physically struggling with her weight, breathing, and looked flush all the time. I expressed my concerns to Brittany at ABC and each time was made to feel like I was wrong to have called. Brittany played devil's advocate and instead of validating my concerns, barked back by saying these were experienced caregivers. I asked to have the Owner call me and never received a call back. Last, my mother has many health issues...heart failure, oxygen tank for an incurable infection in both lungs, incontinence, dementia, and other medical concerns. I am my mother's advocate, especially given she cannot speak for herself. NOTE: In their contract agreement there is a paragrapgh where ABC releases themselves from any errors, wrong doing, or any other liability on the part of their caregivers. Looking back, that should have been a huge red flag. They charge $25 per hour for inferior caregivers, do not validate concerns, and make you feel like you are an imposition when calling to address valid issues. Prior to signing the Agreement with ABC, they seemed eager to please, however, once the agreement was signed, their was an immediate change in their attitude. THIS CAREGIVING COMPANY ABANDONED MY MOTHER AT 10:42 a.m. this morning, Oct. 1st. THE CAREGIVER ON DUTY AT THE TIME WAS NOVA. NOVA BROKE THE TOILET SEAT the morning of Oct. 1st and stained a chair with food and did not let me know. How was my mom to use the toilet if the seat was no longer secured to the toilet? Nova left stains of food and drips of beverages on the carpeting. There were additional concerns, but I feel I have written enough. I would not recommend this company. read more

Our family hired Always Best on 11/03/14; my 91 year old father had taken a bad fall and had deep wounds in his left knee and left palm. They sent an LVN Steven who was the perfect fit for us. He saw a problem and acted immediately and my father was admitted to the hospital that day for 2 days. On 11/11/14 my father fell in the afternoon (Steven was on 7-11AM), I had been with Dad and left to do an errand. Later that day my son called the owner and we signed up for 24/7 care. They have sent some wonderful people and a few my Dad just did not get along with, they replaced them with the staff we now have my Dad at 91 can be very demanding On 12/11/14 my Dad decided he was fine and needed very few hours of help. So I contacted admin and we slashed the schedule giving him days with only 7-7PM care. Always Best made it happen as we requested and were ready for us when we called on 12/15/14 to bring everyone back. In 3 hours the entire staff was back on and we were so relieved, it was a miracle. This is a company you can trust completely and they take very seriously the needs of the patient. We are so very lucky that we have them and will continue with them as long as is necessary. The follow ups for my friends condition were especially helpful since I was constantly traveling... Their placement service was quick but thorough...
