I don't normally give reviews on services but I feel compelled to do so. I locked my keys in the car and decided to get a spare key for my wallet. After visiting Home Depot and Lowe's they suggested going to a dealer or locksmith. I see this store daily as I pass but I decided to whip in and see if they could help me. He said of course he could and after digging around in a back room for what seemed like a long time came out with a blank that looked like it would work. He showed me the key and I said great. He proceeded to make the cut and we went outside and checked that it worked. And, it did! We went inside to ring it up and I thought he said $5. I threw 5 bucks down on the counter. He said "No I said $35.00" I said that I didn't want to buy the car... I just want a key for my wallet... After speaking to another employee they told me $20. I admit that never once did I ask how much it would cost but, never once did he tell me how much it would cost me. I figured that HD and Lowe's is $5 so how much more could it cost there. I agreed that the key was already made and it was(I guess) my fault. I felt bad and he helped me quick enough so I payed the man. But I assure you I won't fail to ask more questions if I ever need their service again. But, $35 is crazy expensive. I would have supported my local Mazda dealer for that price. I went here to make a copy of a key. Note: I have made a copy of the same exact type of key before. They tried a couple of times, but the key was sticking and did not work. They then told me it was not worth their time to keep trying and basically gave up on the job. I'm in shock that they just turned a customer away like this. I know they are capable of making me a copy, as they have done so before with the same type of key. But they determined it was not worth their time for a job this small. Yelp find. My car key battery was dying on me so I came here to get it changed out. Found this place on yelp when I did a search for keys. It's location is pretty convenient being that it's on the main road, but if you're driving on Crow Canyon coming from the freeway and going towards Alcosta, you'll have to make a u-turn. I was in and out in 5 minutes. They took my key, replaces the battery, and gave me my key back real quick. Perfect for me cause I have other places to go. Cost was $10.85...not sure if this is cheap or expensive so you decide. Also not sure if price is based on the make and model of your car. I would like to add a note about their customer service. If you're looking for a place that's going to chat with you, smile, or get to know you then I suggest going somewhere else. The guy who helped me, BJ, didn't smile or partake in small talk. He was just direct and too the point, which was fine with me honestly. I have another car key that needs a new battery so I'll probably come back because they got the job done and fast. read more

This company will waste your time. Locked my keys in the tool bin of my service truck, tech couldn't open the bin even with the special tubular tool. They said they could replicate a key, just have to call the dealership. Had me waiting for this key for 2 hours until they admitted the dealership wasn't able to give them the dealer code, and are now closed. Scrambled to find another tech, luckily I found a guy who used to be a former employee at AMPM locksmith. Guy replicated my key, got me on the road within 30 minutes. TLDR: Don't call this company. read more

They helped me on more than one occasion. First when I was locked out. They were here in literally 10 minutes. Then again when I needed to install smart locks. They got the job done in less than an hour. The only thing I didn't like was that they left a lot of dirt from the drilling and didn't get clean it up. Contacted AMPM on Wed to see if they could make a key for a lock. They asked that I send a picture to determine if they could make a new key for the lock. They said they could and it would take 1 hour. My wife dropped it off before 2pm and was told it would take a day. Was unable to pick up on Thur. but went in at lunch on Friday and they had not worked on the lock yet. The people working there did not seem to care that they had not done what they said they were going to do. I had to wait for them to complete the work, as I needed the lock for the weekend. When I came back to pick up the lock, they talked amongst themselves to determine what they were going to charge me. I pointed out that when I sent them the picture that the price quoted was $25. They said that seemed low but they would honor it. I was surprised that this was their comment after not completing the work when they said they would. If anything I would think they would have offered a discount since they wasted my time. The only reason they are not getting one star was because the key they made did work. However, I will definitely find another locksmith next time. read more

AMPM was the only one to be available at the time I stupidly locked my keys inside my car at around 8pm. All the other businesses I looked up and called took me to their voicemail. I told AMPM about the situation and said it wasn't a problem, I gave them my location and they said they would be there in 20 minutes. Well, it took 30-40 minutes instead so I was pretty upset about that since I was in a rush to get somewhere. The guy also didn't have a flashlight so he had me hold up his cell phone for light. The entire process maybe took around 10 minutes. Credit card accepted, have to type in your credit card information into his cell phone. $100 flat. The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 3 is that he was available during hours that nobody else was available at. Otherwise, I would probably have called another business and $100 was definitely pricey. read more

Try going through life with a car that only has one manual key hole to unlock it on the drivers side door. Your electronic unlock button is broken or has a dead battery and on top of that I have a toddler to man handle into the car. I took it to San Ramon Auto Repair and they directed me here. I came two times and the first time they were out on an emergency and the kid working behind the counter couldn't do anything. The second time I came I was on a phone call in the parking lot and the guy came out and said he had an emergency up the street with a kid locked in a bathroom and had to leave and lock up the store. I thought I could wait him out but I had to leave on a phone call. Finally, the third time was the charm and both guys, who could help me, were in the office. My electronic key thing needed to be re-programed all together. He got his laptop out and did his key magic on it. They informed me of the price but I didn't care. Its not my car and I wasn't paying for it. Even if it was my car, the price wouldn't matter anyway. To have to deal with running around the car to unlock it is one of the most annoying events to happen to me. Doing it with a 25lb kid, purse, baby bag and lap top bag is more than any woman should have to deal with. The price does not matter at that point. From what I found out, this shop is one of a few that can actually do whatever they did to fix my electronic key. Except for the inconsistent office hours I'm very happy with the service. Why do we always wait to take care of a problem until we are given no choice? For five years we've been dealing with only one key to our car. Every time the key would get locked in the car we would call AAA. Problem solved. At no point did we ever make the effort to just get a spare one made. Well you know why don't you? It costs money. On Saturday we no longer had that option as the only key was in a purse. A stolen purse. We were going to have the car towed to the dealer to have new keys made but it wouldn't be done until Monday. After waiting 90 minutes for a tow truck (Save Tow) that never showed we gave up and contacted AMPM Locksmith. They said they'd be there in 40 minutes and quoted a price of $200 for two keys. So we waited some more. After about 45 minutes our guy showed up. He apologized for being late but his GPS sent him too far down the road. I wonder is he uses Apple maps? Please understand that we were in Livermore and he was coming from San Ramon so I don't even think 40 minutes was too much. They basically left the shop immediately upon receiving the call. It took a little longer than expected to program the keys because they had the wrong VIN initially. Thanks Hubby. Once they had the correct one the process went pretty quickly. As mentioned in another review, we were given a business card immediately, but the name on the card 'Chida' was not who helped us out. I wish I could remember his name as he was fast, professional, and courteous. The card did say prices were 10% lower than dealer but we found that the price was almost exactly the same. It doesn't matter though as they were able to help us on a Saturday and they came to us. I hope I never have to use them again but they would be the FIRST locksmith I would call in the future! I used this key company because he got good reviews, unfortunately I had a very poor experience. He never shows up when he says he's going to and doesn't even have the courtesy to call, 3 times we waited for him all day and we had to call him to find out where he was. Very poor communication and said he would give us 2 keys, we ended up with 1 substandard key. He told us he'd be back with the correct keys and never returned despite numerous attempts to contact him. Charged us and never got the services promised, very frustrating!! I've been wanting to get a spare extra key for my shed but the local Home Depot didn't carry that particular size key. I've tried do business with the locksmith in Dublin, but the 2 times I've stopped by he's been closed even though it was listed he was open, even sent an message but never got a response..anyways fast forward to being in the area for this locksmith in San Ramon due to errands and they were open. The first guy who helped me did a pretty good job, I'll admit to not fully understanding all he said but got the most of it. I was more pleased to find an additional pad lock for another shed because the shackle that I've seen were too thick for this particular model/hole for it. This was due to the first guy having problems locating a lock, but the owner from the looks of it, did a once around and was able to find a lock for me, he even did a spot check up on it and lubricated it for me. While I was overall extremely happy with the help and assistance with the spare key making and extra pad lock, at that current point during COVID-19, none of the 3-4 workers were wearing any masks..so just had to dock them for it alittle. read more

Our bedroom door lock, a little more than 2 years old, decided to not open this morning. Not a great way to wake up. Was able to open the door, but the handle was not opening the bolt. We called AMPM and they came out and were able to fix the lock in under 10 minutes. This was simple and fast. I sent a picture of my lock and out to our home and took care of our problem. I've never used a locksmith before so this may be generous. I bought a new place an knew I needed to have the locks re-keyed. I called these guys at 10am and set up an appt for 430pm. Daniel the locksmith was right on time, he almost beat me to my house in fact. Daniel rekeyed 3 locks in 20 mins, it took him 30 mins to fix my front door that was super hard to lock. Total cost was $155, not sure If that is reasonable or not, but I was more than glad to pay that since he fixed the front door and he also fixed the dead bolt in the garage. read more
