I limped in after an injury from sitting on a sharp object that damaged my tailbone. I let it fester for 2 weeks until it was unbearable. Desperate, I walked into The Joint Chiropractic on Skillman. I don't know how he did it because I was seriously messed up. After his treatment that involved stretching and some adjustments, I walked out of there feeling worse. But the next day, I could get out of bed with no problem. I could even roll out of bed and my tailbone pain was diminished. Days went on and I had absolutely no pain. When I walked in there, I had groin pain, hip pain, rib pain. My leg felt like a lead weight that I dragged along. The business has been calling me for my follow-up appointments but honestly, that Chiropractor fixed me in one visit which is highly unusual. I thank God that they were there because honestly I didn't know how I was going to make it another day.

They have talked to him many times and telling him that they were restructuring and not to worry. And still, they kept making changes that were very much affecting him..like cutting his pay in half. While he was still employed and they were still restructuring yet they continued telling him there would not be any more changes and they wanted him to stay. He decided to stay until after the holidays and then he would move on. THEY LIED. And they wanted him to stay through their restructuring. Yet They knew all along what they were going to do.. AX HIM! Litzy was very personable from the start, she was sweet and caring and helped my mom fill out her paperwork while I did mine. Dr. Lester is also very caring about his patients, excellent bed manners and shows compassion and care. I was sad when I had to transfer to another clinic (I don't live in his area), but was confident and thankful that my mom remains in great hands with Dr. Lester and Litzy. They have both been very attentive and caring with my mom, they know the type of chest pain she has due to her injuries and always go out of their way to make sure she's taken care of. It's been 2 years since my husband was discharged after nine months for "behaviors they couldn't manage" -- let's see, he was noncombative, not aggressive, nonverbal" but mobile and severely cognitively impaired. If the urge hit to pee he would pee. Typical Alzheimer's behavior -- across the Alzheimer's spectrum. Was there a bio-schedule at The Cottages?. No. Anyone equipped to know how to manage working with Alzheimer's patients? Apparently not -- especially younger, mobile residents with family who stay connected and don't support heavy medications as part of daily living when unnecessary. So, my husband is a former athlete and physically fit -- if one didn't know any better you might have confused him for someone who worked there.... Yes... He needed daily assistance finding the bathroom so he wouldn't urinate in a public area -- this is a typical challenge for a male early onset Alzheimer's patient. I offered to arrange (and pay) for staff training with Teepa Snow's national team on this issue but the leadership wasn't interested. How dare the lead administrator place more emphasis on her antique furniture being ruined. Who keeps precious antiques in an Alzheimer's memory care facility? How was the urination issue managed? Oh, by prescribing four antipsychotic medications that were so powerful he was sent to the ER for four consecutive weeks in a row. As his wife, I requested that his neurologist and cardiologist manage his medications and guess what? He was discharged less than two weeks later... Never met the facility doctor in person, I couldn't even tell you what the doctor looked like, high nurse turnover, LOST medications (repeatedly lost)... oh, at meal time, you can't sit with your loved one for a meal.... Guess what, despite everything, my husband isn't on a single psych med and hasn't been since he left The Cottages. No place is perfect, and a memory care facility is only as good as its care team and management -- that's the heart of a facility. In short, The Cottages is a beautiful building but lacks heart. Beyond disappointment when you've got to fight tooth and nail (two years later !) over a medication bill that the facility refuses to be accountable for because they misplaced or lost medications and had to reorder but want to push the bill on the family.... Lots of seemingly medication overloads at this place, zombie like residents who appear confined by medications -- I'm actually grateful, even with my husband's continued decline, there's no extra medication interfering with his quality of life -- and I'm empowered to share our story of what to stay away from when looking for a facility for your loved one. In plain words: This AIN'T it!! Beware.

The caregivers were very good with my mom. They treated her with respect and pushed her to accomplish what she could do physically. Second Family did a great job assigning caregivers that were compatible with my mother's personality. I highly recommend them.
