I happen upon this bakery at the Scripps Ranch Farmer's Market on a Saturday afternoon. You can also find them at the farmer's market in Solana Beach on Sundays. I was going to get a cupcake to enjoy with the cup of coffee I had in my hand but a beautiful looking cake caught my eye. After Anna, the owner, described it to me, I just had to have a slice. She called the cake an "Everything Cake" but for me, it was pure decadents of a chocolate affair. It was a moist and soft chocolate cake with just the right amount of denseness. Inside the cake was a layer of rich chocolate butter cream which had a mild chocolate and butter flavor, not to mention a luscious texture. The cake portion of the cake had a terrific chocolate flavor which kept me coming back for more bites. The cake also came with white chocolate frosting on the outside and white chocolate waffle flakes which were quite delicious. Although the $5 slice of cake was great, I do look forward to returning to the farmer's market to visit to try some of the cupcakes. We got the tastiest vegan cupcakes for our wedding from Ámame Desserts! Owner and baker Anna is a lovely human - Super communicative, professional, friendly, and always excited for us and our big day, we felt so taken care of throughout the whole process. Booking Ámame for our date and settling our event contract was a breeze, and once we scheduled our tasting, we got to the fun part! We chose four different cake and frosting flavors to try out, and once we picked them up, we were so excited to see bigger taster cakes than expected! (hahaha) Anna met us virtually on Zoom while we tried each one, and they all were *so* good! As we enjoyed our treats, she talked us through different options for the frosting and other decoration ideas, and asked us questions on what we liked specifically about each one and what elements we'd like more or less of, so we could get the cupcakes for our wedding just right. It was so great that she had all of these little questions for us, it made it clear that she really cared that we got exactly what we wanted! We ended up choosing red velvet with cream cheese buttercream, lemon blueberry with lemon buttercream, and marble cake with chocolate buttercream and ganache drizzle. Leading up to the wedding, Anna continued to be super on top of it and was a team player in fitting cupcake drop-off time into our timeline with our coordinators. I'm sad we were too busy to see her day-of, but was not surprised to hear our cupcakes arrived exactly as scheduled! Our guests loved them - They were already impressed with how delicious they were, and once they heard they were vegan, they were floored! With all the hustle and bustle of the day, we didn't get to have any cupcakes until breakfast the following morning, and could not believe that they somehow tasted even better than at our tasting. I've been vegan for a number of years now, and my sweet tooth has led me to many desserts - These are definitely some of the best cakes I've had! Cake texture was incredible, which can be so tough to nail in vegan cakes, and I wish I had a vat of that buttercream around at all times! Everything was the perfect amount of sweet too, even the richer flavors didn't get too heavy, and the blueberries in our lemon cakes were so fresh. I am so grateful to have found my go to vegan baking Queen! I first ordered from Anna for my birthday almost a year ago and got to try 4 different mini cakes. I left an amazing review about the 4 mini cakes on my instagram but the highlight of the 4 was the carrot cake. I hate carrot cake but the one she made I fell in love with! I am also a huge red velvet fan and let me tell you Anna's red velvet is the best that I have ever hand! The butter cream that Anna makes is like no other and just pairs so perfectly with whatever type of cake you get! Any type of cake that I have wanted Anna was able to make for me. Also don't let these sizes fool you these cakes are THICK and (as much as I hate this word) moist. The butter cream melts in your mouth and isn't overly sweet either. I'm not a frosting type of person either but Anna layers and coats her cakes perfectly! I could seriously write a novel about all the cakes I have been able to purchase from Anna but you should try it yourself. I have been a vegan for a year now and Anna has helped me not cave into having a sweet tooth and my love for cake. Just one last thing, beside Anna's amazing gift of making vegan cake taste better than "regular" cake, her attention to detail and decorations for all of my cakes are *chef's kiss!* I'll tell you they have all been really hard to cut into because I loved the design and details so much.
