I loooove all of Helga's treats!! From bagels and croissants to cake cups and muffins to cookie decorating kits and even savory croissants filled with prosciutto and gruyère. I've attached a few photos of what I could find but truly you can't go wrong with anything on her menu.

Helga is awesome! Back in December I had been craving and feeling bad that I wouldn't be able to have kings day bread on January 6th. I came across Helga's post on the San Diego Celiac Facebook page and she was making rosca de reyes aka Kings day bread. I immediately ordered one. When I went to pick it up from her it was still warm from the oven and looked and smelled amazing and so delicious! Even my family couldn't tell it was gluten free. Since then, I've tried her cheese danishes plus croissants. Everything she makes it's sooo delicious!

Once you enter the store, you might think you entered the wrong storefront. When you walk in, the decor for the name of the place now says Canton Bakery by Meta Sweets in a more modern, whimsical font. Everything is pink. There's nothing wrong with pink but it doesn't match. The vibe inside feels like it wants to be a modern cake/bakery shop rather than a traditional Chinese bakery. Maybe it was or maybe it will be? There are also no actual pastries, cake, or other bakery items in any of the glass display cases where you would normally expect to see items you could order. Instead, they are filled with religious decor or empty. What you can order, you can see as large posters on the wall. A variety of char siu baos (BBQ Pork Buns - steamed or baked), coconut bread, chicken baos. No pricing which I'm not a fan of. We ordered 4 baked BBQ pork buns and 2 coconut bread and the price was more than the 1 order of wings we got next door at Royal Mandarin. The bbq pork buns were kind of dry, at least the bread was. The char siu was good though. I wish they came warm or they would ask if we wanted them warmed. The item to get though is the coconut bread. Soft fluffy bread, delicious filling. They could increase the filling for a better ratio. Come for the coconut bread! I was leaning towards 3 but am bumping to 4 stars. If you're in the area and getting some wings from Royal Mandarin, then stop by the bakery for some coconut bread. Otherwise, I wouldn't make a special trip just for the bakery.

Crunchy and full of delicious fillings. Love the vinegar dipping sauce too. This is where we buy our regular pandesal and cheese pandesal. We will try their drinks next time when I'm with my wife since they have a café now inside.

The drinks weren't bad, but they also didn't leave much of an impression. There was a $0.75 upcharge for a milk substitute, which I understand is fairly common. However, when combined with the overall pricing, it made me question the overall value. With so many other café options in the area, I found the prices a little high for what was offered. I was hoping for something that felt a bit more memorable or unique. Hopefully they'll continue to grow and refine things over time, because it's always nice to see a new local café succeed.

I got myself a Chocolate Croissant and an Iced Sea Salt Caramel Coffee (Medium Size). I figured the chocolate croissant would be good to take on a walk so that it would become all melty! The sea salted caramel cream coffee on the other hand was lacking that depth and lush you'd get from actual caramel. It tasted like they used a pump syrup instead, very artificial. I wanted more salt in this drink as well. Other than that, it was ok, esp for the price. I'd prob get the original sea salt cream coffee next time. There are a few tables inside (chairs minimal) and some outdoor seating. Lots of space to park.

I think what did it for me is the fact the drinks are either topped off or not. I'm paying over $5 for a large specialty drink (the only size it's offered in) and they can't even top it off? Wth? **the next day I went to another 85 location. I realized the National City store gave me a medium sized drink and it wasn't a large. Large is the only size they sell this drink in. The drink I bought from the other location was noticeably larger and topped off. National City is ripping customers off.**
