While they get the job done most of the time, they do not go above and beyond. Positive: The secretaries in Bremerton and the main clinic in Gig Harbor are friendly. They find appointments most of the time quickly. I like that they will see all 3 of my children on the same day, whereas most will only see 2. Negative: The is a lack of communication. Most recently my son had an appointment for a tooth extraction. My husband waited a good little while before they told him they could not see my son because a month prior he would not let them take xrays. They referred us out. That should have been done when the appointment was made.Besides, they could have take xrays prior to the work as I am sure they would have been able to do it. They do not work well with kids who have anxiety or other special needs. My daughter was supposed to have a filling done. She would not stop crying and they refused to fill it. They put a cap over it to supposedly stop further decay. My son most recently suffered from ADHD and some other issues. He had a bad day and we went in for an appointment. While he has had xrays done before, this particular time he would not cooperate. The Hygienist was nice and talked to him. She was not able to get much done. The dentist who was Asian saw him. My child would not cooperate and would bit down on the equipment. The Asian Dentist was snappy and was huffing and puffing and was not please with my son. I personally did not like the way my son was treated. Most pediatric dental clinics have partnerships with the hospitals to do light sedation or other methods to get the work done. The clinic they referred us to have the partnership with Harrison This clinic is limited in what they can do. They are behind schedule most of our appointments, so I cannot they are always late. Maybe they are on time for another family. They reschedule weekend appointments the day before because the dentist doesn't want to come in. Occasionally they are open on the weekend. I had a weekend appointment set up, but I was told the dentist did not want to drive into town. I had an appointment on 12/24 and they called the day before to say they were not going to be open. If they had a few patients, they should have squeezed everyone closer together or had staff come in. My time in just as valuable as theirs. Also, they are telling patients private business. One hygenist was explaining why another patient was gagging. I was not concerned and did not mention it nor ask, but I was told the person was sick, had a medical condition, and had just finished Chemo. That was not my business to know. Unfortunately, this is the only or one of a few places that take State Medicaid Insurance. Once I am able to put my children on my plan, I will transfer them to a different dental clinic

I went in person to settle the balance, but this type of delayed billing after collecting payment up front feels deceptive. Patients should be made clearly aware when they are paying an estimate versus a final amount. I've canceled all future appointments and will not be returning. An odd caveat to the story is that the hygienist also works with Dr Cardenas 1 day a week. I thought this was a bit odd but as a past patient of Dr. Cardenas I went ahead and met with her. After looking over my gums she suggested approx. $7,000 worth of surgeries were needed to fix my alleged issue. I found this to be a bit much particularly because her office claimed they couldn't bill my new insurance and I would need to pay out of pocket and then personally bill my insurance for reimbursement. I decided to try a new dentist due to the odd referral circumstance and expensive diagnosis. The new dentist never mentioned any need for surgery and 2 years later my gums are healthier than ever. This however isn't my reason for taking the time to write this review. A year or more after meeting with Dr. Cardenas I received a bill from her office stating that I owed the full amount for the office visit, even though they stated to me they could bill my insurance for the visit. Turns out her office had my old insurance information and not newer current insurance carrier. After speaking with the office manager Amy Jewitt multiple times and her with intense hostility and a raised voice it was explained to me that I would need to pay the bill or they would be sending me to collections. At this point I called my insurance company and asked for records and they found that they had never received a bill from Amy or the office as Amy had been billing the old insurance company and was not getting a response back from them. My gripe is that after not getting paid by the insurance company for over a year the office of Dr. Cardenas chose not to either call, email or send a letter asking me for help or clarification. They simply just kept submitting invoices to the wrong company.... I could have fixed this if they would've followed up and simply asked for confirmation regarding my insurance. And after they didn't receive their money they simply started billing me for the invoice.
