As a retired dentist who practiced for over 35 years I can honestly say this is a five star plus dental practice. Starting at the front desk, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Any financial arrangements are handled in a professional manner and are discussed up front before any treatment is completed. The hygienists are great: efficient, thorough, kind and informative. They will do everything that they can to make it a comfortable experience. Finally both doctors are excellent. They are competent in all of the new techniques, are skillful, gentle and mindful of esthetics. They take the time to carefully explain what treatment is needed and why. I was disappointed that when I asked if they took my insurance they said "yes." But after my appointment (exam only), they said my portion was $230. In fact, my insurance was not in their network. Therefore, yes they will bill my insurance, but my insurance only pays for 70% of "customary" charges when not in network. I felt they were a little dishonest. Right up front they should have said, yes, we will bill your insurance but it is not in our network. Make sure to ask the right questions. read more

I think The dentists and hygienists are nice and my kids find it comfortable, but their cleanliness practices are below standard. First my son witnessed them touching doors, a computer mouse, drawers and multiple other things without changing or removing her gloves, then proceeding to put her hands in his mouth giving him a full anxiety attack. I spoke with the office manager who promised this would never happen again. Meanwhile, months later I went in to the exam room with my son and a different hygienist. She proceeds to not wash her hands then touch the gloves in the finger part while putting them on her hands.mind you... this was during the first month of the pandemic before they closed. I stopped her and made her wash and put gloves on properly. Finally the dentist came in and she was very nice, but what does she do? She doesn't wash, then grabs a pair of gloves and lays them in the filthy counter that is covered in some wet goo, then goes to put them on to touch my sons mouth!!! Omg! I got angry and said "stop!! Look at the gross mess on the counter and why would you even lay them there and why did you not wash?" She apologized and I watched her correct the situation, but lord! Nothing is more repulsive then thinking about how much spit and blood the could be spreading! I have had it! That was so gross I fully can't trust this office as far as following sanitary guidelines. Look it up! It's pretty detailed on what protocols they need to follow and they failed! read more

I've been coming here for cleanings (and one minor procedure) for about two years. There are good things to say about this practice. Dr. Peterson seems like a competent dentist and is pleasant. The office is clean, modern, and efficiently managed. However, much of that efficiency seems to revolve around CRM (customer relationship management) software coupled with hardcore upsell tactics. I see from the reviews here that others have had the same experience. My first visit was like something off of that plastic-surgery sitcom "Nip and Tuck," where before my checkup started, they took me to an interview room and asked me what I didn't like about myself (i.e. teeth and smile). I thought I made it clear from the outset that I didn't want to be bothered with this nonsense, but they don't take no for an answer. Every visit I have had thereafter, all of the chit chat has been a thinly veiled marketing script, digging for your insecurities, so they can figure out what services to upsell (teeth whitening, straightening, etc.). It might be one of the most absurd, information-age upsells I have had to endure, as it combined the worst of several scenarios. On one hand, it felt like being unable to remove myself from an email SPAM list - but in person. Simultaneously, I had a telemarketer who refused to deviate from their sales script, while grinding on my teeth with tools and abrasive. FUN! It was patronizing and insulting, especially since I am paying for a service. It also puts you at ill ease, the very opposite of what you want in a doctor's and especially a dentists office. I like Dr. Peterson well enough, but he wouldn't be able to pick me out of a two-person lineup in public. So they obviously use this CRM to record any personal details you tell them, then weave it into conversations on subsequent visits. I also found that awkward and strange, because there was no way they remembered the obscure details they mentioned, and it came off as false and insincere. I don't care if you don't know me; I know you see hundreds or thousands of people. But let's not turn my appointment into a charade. Just provide me with the service I want and I will be happy. There are better uses of a CRM. Firstly, you could use it to get my name right, instead of using the pet version of my full name without asking. That really rubbed me the wrong way, since I (literally) asked you five times not to call me by this pet name. But you might be best served by enabling some sort of opt-out flag in that CRM system, so people can forgo being pestered during their visits this way and instead get the care they are paying to receive. Or better yet, don't upsell at all. It's a medical office, not a mini mall. read more

Had my first appointment with Dr. Peterson yesterday. He and his entire staff were excellent. They got me in fast and on time. I had a very thorough checkup and had a broken tooth rebuilt in 90 minutes. It is temporary until we make a comprehensive plan to restore all my teeth. I looks better than the original. read more

We got past constantly being up-sold for additional services but we had enough when there staff supposedly did a pre-authorization on our insurance for our daughter's visit, it was later determined that our insurance didn't reimburse and rather than let us know, they sent us to collections. We called and asked if they would be willing to reduce the charge since we would be paying cash and all they did was refer us back to collections. Horrible customer service from the administrative staff. First, a lady by the name of Jordan who asked me to complete their new patient paperwork failed to email it to me twice. I then proceeded to go onto their website to complete all the required paperwork prior to arriving on my scheduled appointment, for it was relayed by Ms. Jordan that I wouldn't be seen unless they receive it. The day of the appointment, all required paperwork along with my insurance information was submitted. I met with Jenny to review my paperwork. It was about a 30 minute consult prior to meeting the Dentist. After my consult and x-rays taken I was asked to pay out of pocket for the services rendered. When I inquired why the amount was so high, Ms. Jordan informed me then that they didn't accept my insurance Delta Dental of Washington. To me, this should have been disclosed prior to any x-rays, exam being conducted and during the review of my paperwork. If you're looking for a customer service oriented dental practice I would reconsider. read more

My boyfriend had his cleanings done here for two years (4 total) but we kept getting random bills and had one cleaning scheduled that we didn't know about. I schedule all of his appointments and since I didn't schedule this one he didn't know and missed it. They claim to not know who scheduled it so they waived the fee for "missing" it. Them waiving it is the only reason I gave them three starts but I've scheduled his next appointment with a different dentist. I'm not comfortable with random appointments scheduled for my family. For the record, I'm a SAHM and I take managing my families schedules, appointments etc very seriously because it's literally my job. He said his appointments went well but refuses to go back. read more

Dr Peterson is a phenomenal dentist. His bedside manner is very gently, he knows how to throw in humor to help distract from the "joys" of dental visits. He is painless, super brilliant and teaches classes to other dentists. He is well worth visiting even with being out of network for insurance (most dental insurance is a joke) and you get what you pay for. He reinvests in the technology of his practice, and the coolest part is that you can get your crown in one appointment without having to wear a smelly temporary. This review is going to cover both the clinical staff and the billing/front office staff. I would give four stars to the dentist and hygienist since in my multiple visits they seemed genuine about the concern for my dental health and were happy to answer questions and make sure I was ok with the procedures. A couple times I had issues with assistants who really pushed me to have procedures done that I couldn't afford at the time. I felt so much pressure ("if you don't do it, you're teeth will fracture!") that I finally caved and scheduled. I was given a sheet with an estimate of the work and costs and it was not explained to me, nobody went over it with me at all! But to my untrained eyes, it read that I would be on the hook for just about $1k, the rest being covered by my insurance. This led me to believe that they'd already gotten approval from my insurance and hence the estimate of my costs. Turned out I was wrong. After initially being told I had a credit on my account, I later found out that I owed another almost $2k!! Turns out the procedure was not covered. Yes, I now know I should have contacted my insurance myself before the procedure. The front office girl who told me about the bill could not explain why I owed the money, nor could she print me an itemized invoice. I complained and the dentist later told me the girl was new, it wasn't her fault and that I should wait to talk to billing person. Billing person, via multiple emails, was not terribly nice or understanding and seemed rather put out that I questioned their practices. I also now know that the wonderful full office of staff and pretty furnishings are totally funded by their outrageous prices for services. I have since found a more budget friendly dentist. Not all dentists charge the same. Your insurance will still pay according to their benefit schedule but the rest is up to the dentist. This practice it turns out, is way way more expensive than others in Kitsap. Shop around. read more

Terrible manager. On 3/13/19 at 3 pm, when I questioned my receipt she insisted that the previous balance on my receipt was clear that it is not my balance but the insurance balance and it is my responsibility to ask as it appears to be my personal account balance. So it is misleading the patient since is said in black and white 'previous balance'. She argued with me in front of a bunch of patients. Very argumentative and clearly doesn't value her job or patients. Modern Denistry is insanely over priced! Don't go there if your money doesn't grow on trees! read more

They stole my money. Lied to my insurance company, telling them I chose to not attend my appointment, when they would not let me in! I paid for a crown in the beginning of the year. I was given a temporary crown till my permanent was made. Then, Covid 19 came along and shut down all dentist. When service resumed, they told me i had to wear a mask for the 10 foot walk to the chair. I told them I was not interested in the walk and if they weren't going to allow me in, then i would like a refund and id go elsewhere. Then dentist(peterson) then calls me and tells me they are billing me for the temp, which is conveniently the same price, and not serving me anymore. I never authorized them to just do a temp, and never authorized the payment for that service. It was authorized for a permanent crown. I also don't appreciate peterson telling me I don't care about my own safety, since a surgical mask on for 10 feet does nothing for me, especially since I wouldn't have it on the rest of the appointment. The most rude someone supposedly professional has been, and stole my money with no recourse for me. Good luck in your future endeavors........ read more

I have been a patient of Poulsbo Modern Dentistry for 11 years. My vote helped them be "Best in North Kitsap" a few times, but no more. Have a web site and a facebook page and yet fail to post changes to the office such as good bye to departing hygienists and welcome to new office staff and hygienists. They switched me twice with no notice. They used to cheerfully deal with my 2 or 3 insurance policies, getting me the best coverage but now just say well........ I had to catch them charging me for whitening gel as I was one of their original whitening customers and get the gel free. (this is noted I believe as they did check my record and agreed to the free gel but charged for the sensitivity reliever) The last annoyance was last week. I received multiple text reminders to come ot my appointment. Since it was snowy, I checked the website and the facebook and there was no mention of closure. I went. Yep, closed. Not only closed for the day but had been closed for the last 5 business days and I STILL received texts to come. Today, a week later, I received a text informing me of a new appointment at a time I cannot come. Shooting for the same day of the week and same time would have been a better shot. Friendly personal service at this office is no more. read more

Dr Peterson is amazing!! He took care of our family for a few years while we were stationed in that area. He is professional and friendly, but most of all he is passionate about what he does and it shows in the quality of his work. Unfortunately they no longer take our insurance otherwise I'd plan my visits up there around my exam schedule! Incredibly knowledgeable and has all newest gadgets and technology to really give you top of the line dental care.
